Pathological Crystallization of Cholesterol in Atherosclerosis
Crystallization of Cholesterol in AtherosclerosisEndarterectomy of the carotid artery procedure will be performed at Sheba Medical center vascular surgery department, followed by fixation and histology. Tissues will then be transferred to Weizmann Institute of Science for observation implementing advanced electron microscopy techniques. Finally, joint evaluation of the results will be carried out, in relation to the patient clinical history.

Identification of Neoatherosclerosis in ISR Patients Based on Artifical Intelligence
In-stent RestenosisNeo-atherosclerosis1 moreBased on the large population of patients, in-stent restenosis (ISR) is still an important problem in the field of cardiovascular disease. How to reduce the incidence of ISR and the treatment of ISR has become the focus and hot spot. The 2018 ESC Guidelines for Cardiovascular Intervention recommends treatment of ISR under the guidance of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), or optical coherent tomography (OCT). Circulation published a new Waksman ISR classification based on mechanisms and components of the restenosis tissue, which provides guidance for treatment strategy. Because of its good resolution, OCT makes it more accurate to distinguish the components of vascular tissue, thus providing a decision-making basis for interventional therapy. OCT examination can obtain the characteristics of the ISR more precisely. Neoatherosclerosis (NA), is one of the ISR types and accounts for more stent failure and target lesion failure than other types. Identification NA is important for decision-making of interventional therapy. However, the acquisition and analysis of OCT images not only need the digital angiography machine (DSA) equipped with the majority of hospitals, but also need professional OCT imaging equipment and technicians. Patients with severely CKD cannot bear OCT examination because of the large amount of contrast agent. OCT catheter is more than ten times the price of the CAG catheter. Therefore, identification of NA by the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is of significance to set therapeutic strategy for ISR patients, especially in patients with CKD. Our study retrospectively analyzed CAG images and OCT images of ISR patients obtained from Jan 1st,2015 to Oct 31st,2020. Identify NA by analyzing OCT images, build up U-net and V-net to analyze the CAG and OCT images, and finally build up an identification system of NA based on CAG images by AI. This study has been approved by Ethics Committee of Chinese PLA General Hospital (S2018-033-01)

Multiple Myeloma and Environmental Exposure to Pesticides in the French West Indies: A Population...
Multiple MyelomaMultiple myeloma (MM) is a malignancy of plasma cells engaging in monoclonal immunoglobulin production. A strong presumption was established between exposure to pesticides and the risk of MM. The French West Indies departments of Guadeloupe and Martinique are characterized by a wide use of pesticides related to bananas plantation, particularly chlordecone which has been classified by IARC as possibly carcinogenic and has recognized hormonal properties (endocrine disruptor). The objective of this study is to measure the association between exposure to pesticide and other environmental factors in the occurrence of MM in Guadeloupe and Martinique and to estimate the proportion of cases of MM attributable to pesticide exposure. Genetic susceptibility markers and their links to environmental factors will be subsequently studies from blood samples collection.

Cell Block Immunohistochemistry in Effusion Cytology
Effusion PleuralAscites1 moreCytology is usually the first step in investigating serous effusions, to either detect or exclude an underlying malignancy. This study will try to answer the need for improved diagnostic yield of cytologic examination by cell block technique and immunohistochemical testing of three markers which are EZH2, Claudin-4 and MOC-31.

The Oscillation of Crystalline and Intraocular Lenses
Marfan's Syndrome With Ocular ManifestationsPseudoexfoliation Syndrome3 moreThe crystalline lens of the human eye helps to sharpen vision. There can be issues with the support/stability of the lens. This could be seen with the naked eye of an external observer or with the use of a slit lamp. Certain eye conditions can predispose to issues with lens stability. If patients have stability issues with their natural lens- this would be termed as "phakodonesis". However, in patients who have had prior cataract surgery with implantation of an artificial lens (IOL)- this would be termed as "pseudophakodonesis". Eye conditions such as pseudoexfoliation or Marfan-syndrome can lead to unstable lens support- this can be detected if there are advanced stability issues. However, small instability in the eye's would not be detected with present descriptive methods. The authors have designed a high-speed camera which is able to detect stability of the lens, especially during eye movements. The high-speed camera can detect variation in the change of light reflex from the lens and calculate the amount of lens instability/oscillation. The results (in normal eyes) of this high-speed camera has already been published in a peer-review journal. It is non-contact and measures lens movement. The test lasts less than 5 minutes. Further research is required to assess the amount of lens oscillation (wobbling) in different eye populations - patients with previous cataract surgery (an artificial implant is used to replace the lens) or eye conditions (such as pseudoexfoliation, Marfan syndrome). The amount of lens stability has a role in the planning of further intraocular surgery - especially cataract extraction - however, at present, there is no approved quantitative measurement for this. Participants will be recruited through Anglia Ruskin University (educational establishment), local community groups, and through Southend University Hospital eye clinics (NHS organisation). Participants' data will remain anonymous.

Hypotension on InductionThis thesis aims to evaluate the ability of preoperative plethysmographic variability index to predict post-induction hypotension in comparison with ultrasound measurements of inferior vena cava (IVC) diameter.

COVIDAR - Arrhythmias in COVID-19
COVIDArrhythmia7 moreBACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: There is very limited literature available on the arrhythmia occurrence in the context of an infection by the SARS-CoV2 virus. On the other hand, treatment strategies against the SARS-CoV2 virus may carry a risk of QTc prolongation and pro-arrhythmia/sudden death which may be amplified by concomitant use of other QTc-prolonging drugs and/or ion disbalances. COVIDAR is an international initiative to monitor the occurrence of arrhythmic events in the context of the SARS-CoV2 infection, to identify potential modifiable predisposing factors to reduce their incidence and to inform the best arrhythmia management options in this patient population. MAIN OBJECTIVE: To describe the incidence and type of arrhythmic events in the context of the SARS-CoV2 infection. STUDY DESIGN: patient registry (observational). Patients will not undergo any additional investigations. Only data that is generated during routine clinical care will be collected. STUDY POPULATION: Patients admitted to the hospital highly suspected of or with confirmed COVID-19.
