Mirtazapine Versus Megestrol Acetate in Treatment of Anorexia-cachexia in Advanced Cancer Patients....

Anorexia

This study was 8 weeks randomized, double-blind trail to assess the effect of mirtazapine versus megestrol acetate in treatment of anorexia-cachexia in advanced cancer patients in 80 patients. Participants were assessed at baseline, 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Subject were randomized to receive either mirtazapine 15 mg tablet daily or megestrol acetate 160 mg tablet daily for 8 weeks. The primary outcome was the measure of FAACT(A/C) score and the secondary measure includes weight, BMI, quality of life and evaluate adverse effects.

Facing Eating Disorder Fears for Anorexia Nervosa

Eating DisordersAnorexia Nervosa1 more

FED-F is a modular treatment that enhances exposure therapy with psychoeducation and cognitive skills teaching how to face fears of (a) food, (b) weight gain, (c) interoception/body, and (d) social situations. The study goals are to (1) refine and test the acceptability and feasibility of FED-F treatment (Phase I), (2) test if this treatment outperforms treatment as usual (TAU) delivered post-acute treatment as adjunctive to stepdown specialty care (Phase II), and (3) to examine if treatment targets the hypothesized mechanism of action: approach behaviors (Phase II). These goals will lead to a highly deployable and accessible virtual treatment targeted at core AN mechanisms that predict relapse. Specific aims are to (1) refine FED-F into a fully virtual format with input from patients and stakeholders and collect preliminary data (N=10) on its feasibility and acceptability (Phase I), (2) conduct a small pilot RCT (randomized controlled trial) of FED-F (n=30) as compared to TAU (n=30; Phase II), and (3) examine if FED-F targets approach/avoidance behaviors and test if this mechanism is associated with clinical outcomes (Phase II).

Energy Intake, Exercise and Constitutional Leanness

Anorexia NervosaConstitutional Leanness

The aim of this study will be to identify the physical and dietary profile of adult women presenting constitutional leanness (CL), comparatively with normal-weight peers and BMI-matched women with anorexia nervosa. After an evaluation of their daily energy intake, physical activity level, body composition, aerobic capacities and muscle strength, women from the normal weight and CL groups will be asked to realized laboratory sessions to evaluate their energy intake and appetite feelings responses to acute exercise

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Add-on Hometreatment to Family Based Therapy in Adolescent Anorexia...

Anorexia in Adolescence

The project serves to evaluate a new treatment method with outreach services as a supplement to family-based therapy in the treatment of children and adolescents with eating disorders. The project is intended to help identify different family structures and which families will benefit most from the new outreach service of home-based treatment.

Implementation of Evidence-Based Treatment of Restrictive Eating Disorder With Pronounced Starvation...

Anorexia NervosaAnorexia Nervosa3 more

In the Region Skåne in Sweden, the investigators have developed guidelines for providing intensive and evidence-based treatment during the first month in case of severe restrictive eating disorder with pronounced starvation. The project is aiming at implementing this treatment program in the general Child Psychiatric clinic, with its main focus on the implementation of evidence based family therapy. The study aims to evaluate the implementation of a standardized treatment model during the first month. The outcome will be compared with the patients and families who have been in treatment before the ROCKETLAUNCH project started.

Online Relapse Prevention Study

Eating DisordersAnorexia Nervosa4 more

The purpose of this study is to collect preliminary data on the feasibility and acceptability of the randomization of two relapse-prevention treatment conditions after discharge from intensive eating disorder (ED) treatment: an imaginal exposure therapy and a writing and thinking intervention. The second aim to test for (a) differences between the two treatments for the prevention of relapse and (b) preliminary change on clinical ED outcomes (e.g., ED symptoms, fears). The investigators further aim to examine the two treatments target fear extinction and if fear extinction is associated with ED outcomes. The investigators also plan to test if baseline differences in fear conditioning relate to change in ED outcomes across treatment.

App-Based Mindfulness Training for Individuals With Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa

Anorexia NervosaBulimia Nervosa3 more

We will evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of a 8-week long digital mindfulness-based intervention for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. This study is a prospective single-arm trial during the intervention development phase. Following this phase, after the intervention has been further developed, a subsequent study (with a different clinicaltrials.gov identification #) will utilize a randomized control trial design.

New Treatment Perspectives in Eating Disorders: the Efficacy of Non-invasive Brain-directed Treatment...

Eating DisordersBinge Eating Disorder1 more

The present study grounds on the possible role of hemispheric lateralization in Eating disorders (ED): specifically, hyperactivity of the right frontal regions in Anorexia Nervosa (AN), and hypoactivity of the right frontal regions in Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and food craving behaviors. Therefore, the investigators hypothesized that active excitatory tDCS over left prefrontal cortex (PFC) (Anode left/cathode right) may aid in altering/resetting inter-hemispheric balance in AN patients, re-establish control over eating behaviors. On the contrary, active excitatory tDCS over right PFC (Anode right/cathode left) may aid in altering/resetting inter-hemispheric balance in BED patients and people with frequent food cravings, decreasing cravings/appetite binge eating behaviors.
