Utilizing Protein During Weight Loss to Impact Physical Function and Bone

This study is an ancillary study to the Utilizing Protein During Weight Loss to Impact Physical Function (UPLIFT) trial (NCT03074643) to evaluate the effects of diet composition (i.e., amount of protein and carbohydrate) during a 6-month weight loss intervention and 12-months of follow-up on bone phenotypes in obese older adults. Participants will receive either a protein or carbohydrate supplement along with a behavioral weight loss intervention.

There is a growing need to develop pharmacologic interventions to improve metabolic function in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Given that PCOS is a frequent condition and weight loss is essential but difficult to achieve, it is important to study if the effect on body weight reported in other studies can be confirmed in a selected population of hyperandrogenic patients, especially with medications currently approved for weight reduction. High dose liraglutide alone results in significant weight reduction in obese women without PCOS. There is limited data on weight loss with high dose liraglutide in non-diabetic females with PCOS treated with this agent . Studies on the effect of anti-obesity medication combined with lifestyle changes on body weight and composition and androgen excess in obese women diagnosed with PCOS are lacking. The investigators aim to elucidate the most efficacious weight reduction regime in obese PCOS women. The investigators further hope to determine which treatment(s) addressing the multifaceted disturbances of this disorder in patients with PCOS and obesity emerges as the preferable therapy.

People have different beliefs about controlling their weight. Individuals who believe they should control their weight are more likely to have poor body image, low self-esteem and disordered eating. Individuals who believe they should aim for a healthy lifestyle and accept their natural weight have better body image, better self-esteem and less disordered eating. This study investigates the impact of three types of education on participants' beliefs about controlling weight: 1) education about the body's natural regulation of weight; or 2) education about healthy nutrition; or 3) education about both the body's regulation of weight and healthy nutrition. The study will also investigate whether changing participants' beliefs about controlling weight impacts participants' body satisfaction, feelings about themselves and intention to diet. It is predicted that teaching both about the body's regulation of weight and healthy eating will decrease participants' belief in personal control over weight, and increase participants' belief in striving for a healthy lifestyle and accepting their natural weight. In turn, these changes in weight control beliefs are expect to predict improved body satisfaction, feelings about themselves and a lower intention to diet.

This research aims to compare the effect of weighted and elastic resistance training of gluteus maximus in subjects with sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Randomized clinical trials were done. The sample size was 54. The subjects were divided into two groups, 27 subjects in the weighted resistance training group and 27 in the elastic resisted training group. The study duration was of 1 year. The sampling technique applied was the non-probability connivance sampling technique. Only 20-40 years of symptomatic subjects with pain in the SI region for at least 12 weeks (chronic) and had no previous physical therapy treatment were included. Tools used in the study are numeric pain scale, dynamometer, and Oswestry disability index. Data was be analyzed through SPSS 21.

The use of dietary amino acids has been explored for therapeutic and safety intervention of obesity and obesity-induced dysfunction. In particular, 3 molecules have been shown to be effective both in the animal model and in humans, in promoting the loss of fat mass, specifically visceral adipose tissue, and in maintaining free fat mass: arginine, glutamine and leucine (and its metabolite beta hydroxy methyl butyrate, HMB). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy in terms of fat mass, in particular Visceral Adipose Tissue reduction, as primary end point, in obese patients following the administration of specific food for special medical purposes (FSMP) for muscle recovery, consisting of arginine, glutamine and HMB. The secondary end point is the evaluation of skin state, by a validate self-reported questionnaire survey to assess skin, after 4- weeks intake of this FSMP.

Obesity is an ongoing major public health problem in most countries of the world for which the agrifood industry still remains criticized because of the abundant offer of high sugar-lipid-energy dense foods, particularly in the fast-food sector. The resulting societal pressure on the food industry probably explains in part the efforts that have been deployed to seek natural active ingredients and to develop functional foods favorably influencing energy balance. Capsaicin is a food non-nutrient constituent that was shown to decrease appetite sensations and subsequent energy intake. The measurement of heart rate variability revealed an association between the increase in sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity and the satiating effects induced by capsaicin. This is concordant with the observation that pre-prandial intake of capsaicin, be it in capsules or diluted in tomato juice, increased satiety and reduced energy intake. The objective of this study is to evaluate the long effects of Capsimax on appetite sensations and energy expenditure under conditions of moderate energy restriction and to evaluate the long-term effects of Capsimax on energy intake and expenditure under conditions of moderate energy restriction.

The goal was to evaluate the application of a Monday-focused delivery system for the M-TRIMM2 intervention on participants who worked or lived in areas in or adjacent to Johns Hopkins East Baltimore medical campus.Targeting mobile messaging occurred at strategic intervals throughout each week, with the intent of prompting participants to renew their health resolutions each Monday combined with lifestyle behavioral education.
