This study is a single-center, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial with the following objectives: to compare the incidence of post-operative descemet membrane detachment (DMD) in phacoemulsification surgery between modified and conventional 2.2mm microincision.

This study is a prospective comparative, randomized, single center study to gather agreement and precision data in all subjects.

The investigators aim in this study to investigate the effect of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide injection on the development of macular edema and the progression of diabetic retinopathy. Whether this injection hastens cataract surgery results or not. The investigators will categorize the participants into two groups: the case group who will receive the injection at the end of the surgery, and the control group who will have routine cataract surgery with no extra injections.

This pilot study aims to primarily assess the rate of complication of anterior vitrectomy for patients undergoing femtosecond laser-assisted (FLA) cataract extraction and intraocular lens placement (CEIOL) compared to manual CEIOL, when performed by resident physicians under direct attending supervision. In this pilot study, the investigators aim to assess what the incidence of anterior vitrectomy is for each group, in order to better understand the sample size needed to assess whether there is a difference between these two groups. Secondarily, it will gather preliminary data on safety and refractive outcomes for patients undergoing these interventions.

RATIONALE: Aging may affect a person's vision. Vitamin E and/or selenium may help prevent cataracts or age-related macular degeneration in men receiving these drugs as part of a clinical trial for the prevention of prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying vitamin E and/or selenium to see how well they work in preventing cataract and age-related macular degeneration in men enrolled on SELECT (SWOG-S0000).
