The French guidelines for the use of Rifamycine eye drops in delivery room to prevent neonatal conjunctivitis have been actualized. Only newborns exposed to risk factors of conjunctivitis should be treated, compared to previous guidelines, treating all newborns. currently, there are no data describing risk factors for neonatal conjunctivitis. This study evaluated the incidence of conjunctivitis with or without Rifamycine eye drops treatment in the delivery room. Then risk factors for neonatal conjunctivitis where analyzed.

A Field Study to Observe Symptom Scores and Allergy Medication Usage in Subjects with a History of House Dust Mite-Induced Rhinoconjunctivitis

The study was designed to evaluate the pattern of seasonal allergic signs and symptoms consistent with ongoing ocular allergic inflammation during ragweed season. It was hypothesized that a pattern of ongoing ocular allergic inflammation existed in certain subjects.

The objectives of this study is to assess the characteristics and frequency of adenovirus conjunctivitis in a population of male and female patients from one year of age who present signs and symptoms of acute conjunctivitis.

This study offers evaluation and treatment for patients with certain corneal and external diseases of the eye (diseases of the surface of the eye and its surrounding structures). The protocol is not designed to test new treatments; rather, patients will receive current standard of care treatments. The purpose of the study is twofold: 1) to allow National Eye Institute physicians to increase their knowledge of various corneal and external conditions and identify possible new avenues of research in this area; and 2) to establish a pool of patients who may be eligible for new studies as they are developed. (Participants in this protocol will not be required to join a new study; the decision will be voluntary.) Children and adults with corneal or external eye diseases may be eligible for this study. Candidates will be screened with a medical history, brief physical examination, thorough eye examination and blood test. The eye examination includes measurements of eye pressure and visual acuity (ability to see the vision chart) and dilation of the pupils to examine the lens and retina (back part of the eye). Patients will also undergo the following procedures: Eye photography - Special photographs of the inside of the eye to help evaluate the status of the cornea and conjunctiva (the most superficial layer of the eye) evaluate changes that may occur in the future. From two to 20 pictures may be taken, depending on the eye condition. The camera flashes a bright light into the eye for each picture. Conjunctival or lacrimal gland biopsy - A small piece of the conjunctiva or the lacrimal (tear) gland, is removed for examination under the microscope. Anesthetic drops and possibly an injection of anesthetic are given to numb the eye. An antibiotic ointment and patch may be placed over the eye for several hours after the procedure. Participants will be followed at least 3 years. Follow-up visits are scheduled according to the standard of care for the individual patient's eye problem. Vision will be checked at each visit, and some of the tests described above may be repeated to follow the progress of disease and evaluate the response to any treatment that is given.

This screening protocol is designed to facilitate patient recruitment to National Eye Institute (NEI) clinical research studies. Patients must meet specific requirements of a research study; this protocol serves as a first step for admitting patients to an appropriate program. Candidates may have a diagnosed or undiagnosed eye condition. They will be screened with a medical history, physical examination, eye examination and blood test. Other screening procedures may include routine laboratory tests, non-invasive imaging, and questionnaires. The eye examination includes measurement of eye pressure and dilation of the pupils to fully examine the lens, vitreous and retina. Specialized eye tests will be done only if needed to determine eligibility for a specific study. When the screening is completed, patients will be informed of their options to participate in a study. Patients who are found ineligible for a current study will be informed of alternative treatments or options. No treatment is offered under this protocol.

Food allergy is a common chronic condition in childhood. Recent studies have suggested that the natural history of food allergy has changed during the last two decades, with an increased prevalence, severity of clinical manifestations, and risk of persistence into later ages. The increased food allergy prevalence in children has an important economic impact, with significant direct costs for the healthcare system and even larger costs for the families of food-allergic patients. In addition, children with food allergies are at increased risk to develop other allergic manifestations later in life. According to a recent study, children with a food allergy are 2 to 4 times more likely to develop other atopic manifestations such as asthma (4.0 times), atopic eczema (2.4 times), and respiratory allergies (3.6 times), compared to children without a food allergy. Cow's milk allergy is among the most common food allergy in early childhood, with an estimated prevalence of 2% to 3%. It has been previously showed that in children with cow milk allergy, an extensively hydrolysed casein formula supplemented with the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG induced higher tolerance rates compared to extensively hydrolysed casein formula without Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and other formulas. These findings were consistent with those of a 1-year follow-up study performed in the US that showed better outcomes using an extensively hydrolysed casein formula+Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG vs. an extensively hydrolysed casein formula or amino acid-based formula for the first-line dietary management of cow milk allergy. In addition it has been recently demonstrated that extensively hydrolysed casein formula + Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG reduces the incidence of other atopic manifestations and hastens the development of oral tolerance in children with IgE-mediated cow milk allergy. The present randomized controlled trial (RCT) was designed to test whether different dietary interventions could influence the occurrence of other atopic manifestations in children with IgE-mediated cow milk allergy.
