Study of Techniques of Subcutaneous Administration of Fluids Enabled by Human Recombinant Hyaluronidase...
DehydrationThe purpose is to evaluate the ease of use and technical challenges encountered during subcutaneous infusion of Lactated Ringer's (LR) solution, preceded by recombinant human hyaluronidase (hylenex), utilizing commonly used angiocatheter gauges and button delivery systems. The safety and tolerability of hylenex-augmented SC infusion of LR through these delivery systems is also being evaluated.
Rehydration Following Exercise-Induced Dehydration
Dehydration Related to ExerciseAthletes participating in multiple training sessions a day can be at increased risk of suboptimal hydration and heat illness during their second training session, especially when the environment is hot and humid. With the exception of the absolute volume of water delivered by a rehydration beverage, characteristics of the beverage consumed play a role in the recovery and completeness of rehydration. The amount of sodium in the beverage has been shown to be a primary factor in rehydration. Recently, an effect of the carbohydrate concentration of the beverage was been reported, with its effects mediated by the renal system in response to elevated serum insulin. The purpose of this study is to compare sodium and carbohydrate effects on rehydration and recovery.
Perioperative Fluid Management in Morbidly Obese Patients
HypotensionAnomaly; Venous Return1 moreIn bariatric surgery functional and feasible non- or mini-invasive modalities for monitoring, and ideal/lean body weight estimates are addressed to meet up individual variability in hydration needs, and to avoid hyperhydration. The aim of the study is to evaluate need of perioperative hydration by comparing conventional monitoring (the control group) to a more advanced approach (individualized goal-directed therapy, IGDT) (the intervention group). In addition to conventional cardiovascular monitoring (ECG, non-invasive blood pressure, Sp02) preoperative transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and a intraoperative perioperative mini-invasive pulse-contour device (FloTrac™) will be used for the purpose.
Neuroprotective Therapy and Therapeutic Target in Emergency Department
StrokeDehydrationThe investigators studied laboratory measurements and previously identified risk factors to identify factors predictors of early deterioration following stroke. A prospective observational study of 196 patients with first-time acute ischemic stroke was performed. Following multivariate analysis, only a Bun/Cr >15 was independent predictor of SIE. These patients were 3.41-fold more likely to have SIE (P=0.008). The elevated Bun/Cr ratio indicates relative dehydration of the patients. An immediate intervention for such patients should be the maintenance of proper hydration.
Utility of Ultrasound Assessment of the Inferior Vena Cava in Patients With Sepsis and Dehydration...
SepsisGastroenteritis1 moreConduct a randomized, controlled trial looking at how the use of ultrasound analyzing the inferior vena cava impacts the management and outcomes of pediatric emergency department patients undergoing evaluation and treatment of sepsis and gastroenteritis associated dehydration.
Dehydration of Stenfilcon A Contact Lenses Versus Delefilcon A Contact Lenses
MyopiaThe study will explore in vivo lens dehydration rates across a 12hr wear period for the study lenses.
Intravenous Treatment in Nursing Homes
InfectionsDehydrationThe primary objective for the project is to evaluate whether nursing home residents who require intravenous fluids and intravenous antibiotics, can be treated just as well or even better in the nursing home as in the hospital. In Vestfold, Norway, a structured training program in the intravenous treatment of dehydration and infections in nursing homes is planned. The 3IV study will evaluate if this leads to an equal or better patient trajectory and reduced hospital admittance.
Dehydration of Omafilcon A Contact Lenses Versus Delefilcon A Contact Lenses
MyopiaThe study will explore in vivo lens dehydration rates across a 12hr wear period for the study lenses.
Intravenous Fluids in Hospitalised Children
HypokalemiaHyponatremia2 moreThe main objective of the trial is to evaluate the risk of hypokalemia following administration of a isotonic solution compared to a hypotonic solution in acutely ill hospitalised children, who need intravenous fluid therapy.
The Effect of Fluids Consumption on Balance and Gait Function in Old Adults
AgingDehydrationExperimental design overview The proposed project is a prospective experimental RCT study design. Independent old adults(age 65 years old and older) who do not suffer from balance problems willing to participate in the study will be tested before and after water consumption to explore whether there are differences in balance control as a result of dehydration.
