Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study (AGIS)
GlaucomaTo assess the long-range outcomes of sequences of interventions involving trabeculectomy and argon laser trabeculoplasty in eyes that have failed initial medical treatment for glaucoma.
Novel Portable Diagnostic Device for Automatic Detection of Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect
Multiple SclerosisGlaucomaThis study is to evaluate the ability of a newly designed device, Optic Nerve Glass (O-Glass) to detect relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD). In this prospective study, 44 patients (diagnosed RAPD- positive) enrolled the study. They were examined for an RAPD by O-Glass and also manual swinging flashlight method (SFM) . This newly designed instrument captures and records eye pictures. The images will be processed and analyzed using computerized software to calculate pupillary measurements.
Changes in Ocular Rigidity After Trabeculectomy in Patients With POAG
GlaucomaPrimary Open Angle Glaucoma1 moreIt has been hypothesized that the biomechanical properties of the optic nerve head and/or sclera play a role in the development of glaucoma. One approach of gaining insight into the biomechanical properties of the eye by the means of clinical studies is based on the Friedenwald equation, representing a pressure-volume relationship. This equation represents the so called ocular rigidity, which expresses the elasticity of the globe. In order to be able to solve the equation, measurements of fundus pulsation amplitude (FPA) with laser interferometry and dynamic contour tonometric assessment of the pulse amplitude (PA) have to be performed. In addition choroidal thickness will be assessed with OCT before and after trabeculectomy, since results in choroidal thickness measurements in patients with glaucoma are controversial. The focus of this study lies on the changes of ocular rigidity and choroidal thickness after surgical trabeculectomy in patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) or pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEX).
Micro vs. Standard Trabeculectomy Study
GlaucomaThe purpose of this study is to determine the reduction in intraocular pressure and cumulative incidence of complications between the standard and micro trabeculectomy surgeries 3 months after surgery.
Investigation of the Rewarming og the Fingers After Cooling and the Autonomic Nervous System in...
Raynaud DiseaseRaynaud Phenomenon6 morePatients with Raynaud's disease have an increased tendency of chest pain and migraine, and studies indicate that the disease might be associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Furthermore, a certain hyperactivity of the sympathetic nervous system has been demonstrated in these patients. Hyperactivity of the sympathetic nervous system is known to cause decreasing heart function, regardless of the underlying disease. The cardiac autonomic nervous function and thermographic parameters will be assessed in patients with primary and secondary Raynaud's phenomenon and glaucoma as well as in patients diagnosed with autonomic dysfunction such as diabetics and patients with Parkinson's disease in order to compare the function of the cardiac autonomic nervous system and the peripheral response to cold exposure. Potentially, this will lead to a better understanding of the cardiac autonomic nervous function in Raynaud's phenomenon. Moreover, it might give rise to a new perception of the condition and its association to cardiovascular disease. At the Department of Clinical Physiology, the current method of detecting Raynaud's phenomenon is time-consuming and unpleasant to the patient due to cooling for several minutes. Another aim of the PhD study is to implement infrared thermography as a gentler and possibly more sensitive method to replace the currently applied method. The project will also include an epidemiological study based on data obtained from the National Patient Registry, among others. Raynaud's phenomenon will be paired with diagnostic codes of conditions such as diabetes mellitus, Parkinson's disease, glaucoma, and cardiovascular disease.
Feasibility of Teleglaucoma Versus Conventional Clinical Evaluation for Diagnostic Accuracy and...
TeleglaucomaTeleophthalmology1 moreTelemedicine allows screening of subjects with limited access to eye care. Failure of screenees to come for full examination was identified as a serious problem. Teleglaucoma should allow a single physician access to screenees in real time. The investigators aim to test the technical feasibility of developing a system for teleglaucoma that will allow a physician real time access to patient information and images and compare it to traditional physical presence evaluation in glaucoma clinics. This system can be applied during telemedicine for glaucoma and other vision threatening diseases.
Comparison of Sensimed Triggerfish (TF) 24 Hour Monitoring of the Eye in Glaucoma Patients Before...
GlaucomaA 24 hour profile is recorded using Sensimed Triggerfish in glaucoma patients before and after Trabecuelctomy
The Effect of Scheduled Ripcord Removal on the Outcomes of Baerveldt 350 Implants
GlaucomaThe purpose of this study is to compare the post-operative complication rates and surgical outcomes in patients with a Baerveldt 350 implant following scheduled rip-cord removal in clinic at post-operative week 3 versus spontaneous tube opening. Patients age 18 or greater with uncontrolled glaucoma and scheduled to undergo their first superotemporal Baerveldt 350 implant will be recruited and randomized at the time of enrollment to either scheduled ripcord removal at post-operative week 3 or no ripcord removal. Incidence of complications will be documented and compared between the 2 groups. The final intraocular pressure control between the 2 groups will also be compared in a secondary outcome analysis. This study will help to establish post-operative management guidelines to minimize complications and improve intraocular pressure lowering success following Baerveldt 350 implantation.
Comparison of Sensimed Triggerfish With Goldmann Applanation Tonometry and Perkins Tonometry
Primary Open Angle GlaucomaThis prospective, crossover study is designed to correlate SENSIMED Triggerfish® (TF) continuous IOP monitoring with conventional 24 h intraocular pressure profiles in glaucoma patients. There are two control measurements: The GAT/Perkins profile in the same eye in the second night and the GAT/Perkins profile in the same night in the fellow eye. Therefore, each eye serves as test eye and also as control for the second test eye.
Comparison of Efficacy Between Silicone Ahmed Glaucoma Valves With and Without Intravitreal Triamcinolone...
Neovascular GlaucomaThe management of neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a challenge for the ophthalmologist and surgery is frequently needed to control IOP. The success rates of a drainage device is usually lower in NVG than in other forms of glaucoma. Triamcinolone intra-vitreous injections acetate has been used to treat macular edema secondary to diabetic retinopathy and central retinal vein occlusion and also to control inflammation in ophthalmologic surgeries. In the present study we will compare the outcome and complications of Silicone Ahmed Valve in GNV eyes with and without intra-vitreous triamcinolone injection.
