Assessment of Immune Activation and Tolerance in Celiac Disease During Gluten Challenge

Celiac Disease

The primary purpose of this study is to characterize changes in gluten-specific T cells and pathology in the small intestine with specific focus on biomarkers likely to change with therapeutic celiac disease (CeD) treatment.

Support for Adolescents With Celiac Disease

Celiac Disease in Children

This study was designed as a randomized controlled experimental study to examine the effects of peer-interaction group support in adolescents with celiac disease (CD) in the 13-18 age group on the quality of life, friendship relations, and coping levels of adolescents. Six peer interactive group sessions were held with one week intervals with adolescents (n = 18) in the study group included in the sample for a period of 3 months. In the sessions, all participants were asked questions about the purpose of the session and a discussion environment was created. No training and counseling were provided to the adolescents in the control group (n = 18). Before and after the peer interactive group support, adolescents in the intervention and control group were asked to complete the quality of life, friendship qualities, and coping scales.

Development of a Celiac Safe Food Additive

Gluten Intolerance

The goal of this clinical trial was to investigate if intestinal deamidation of gliadin from wheat bread could be hindered by adding a E304i/zinc additive. The study was a randomized double-blind 4-week crossover intervention in 20 healthy volunteers in which the participants ingested 2 bread rolls a day during the intervention weeks. The question it aimed to answer was if there was a difference in blood levels of deamidated gliadin peptides after ingestion of the reference wheat bread compared with the wheat bread containing the food additive.

Sucrosomial Iron in Patients With Celiac Disease and IDA

Celiac DiseaseIron Deficiency Anemia

Sucrosomial iron (Sideral® Forte) is a preparation of ferric pyrophosphate conveyed within a phospholipid membrane associated with ascorbic acid, is a new-generation oral iron which shows a high gastrointestinal absorption and high bioavailability with a low incidence of side effects due to lack of any direct contact with intestinal mucosa. In comparison with the other standard oral iron preparations, sucrosomial iron seems to be a promising new strategy of iron replacement in CD patients.

Celiac Disease and Unexplained Iron Deficiency in a Primary Care Setting

Celiac DiseaseIron Deficiency1 more

The purpose of this study is to determine if patients with unexplained iron deficiency have underlying diseases processes such as celiac disease. It is hypothesized that selectively screening patients with unexplained iron deficiency will reveal previously undiagnosed etiologies, including celiac disease and other causes of iron malabsorption along with various sources of occult GI blood loss.

Teriflunomide vs. Placebo During Gluten Challenge in Celiac Disease

Celiac Disease

The investigators will see if the drug teriflunomide (which is in use in other immune disorder (multiple sclerosis)) can inhibit the immune activation in celiac disease patients during a 3 day gluten challenge. This will be measured in a blood sample.
