We will investigate of this is also true in humans by increasing, lowering or keeping oxygen levels normal while giving healthy subjects a short inflammatory stimulus.

Regular exercise can help patients with the lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). But COPD patients have a hard time with training because of their breathing. To improve their program they can train with one leg at a time. Another way is to make their exercise easier by breathing helium. Putting two methods, one-legged and helium, together may improve their program even more. This project is planned to assess whether breathing helium improves their one-legged exercise endurance. If it does, then there may be a reason for combining one-legged exercise with breathing helium as part of their respiratory rehabilitation program. The aim of this study is to determine whether breathing helium-hyperoxia enables a further increase in the constant power endurance time during one-legged exercise in ventilatory limited subjects with COPD. The null hypothesis is that patients will have sufficient peripheral muscle limitation that ventilatory unloading using helium-hyperoxia will be of no additional benefit to exercise tolerance. The investigators hypothesize that patients with COPD are so ventilatory limited relative to their peripheral muscles that helium-hyperoxia will improve their exercise endurance.

Automated Oxygen Delivery by O2matic to Patients Admitted With an Exacerbation in COPD

The aim of the study is to examine if automated oxygen delivery with O2matic is better than manually controlled oxygen therapy for patients admitted to hospital with an exacerbation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). O2matic is a closed -loop system based on continuous non-invasive measurement of pulse and oxygen-saturation that is processed in an algorithm that controls the flow of oxygen to the patient. The primary hypothesis is that O2matic increases time within acceptable oxygen-saturation interval. Secondary hypotheses are that O2matic compared to manual control reduces time with severe hypoxia (SpO2 < 85 %), hypoxi (SpO2 below intended interval) and hyperoxia (SpO2 above intended interval).

Normobaric Hyperoxia Combined With Endovascular Treatment in Acute Ischemic Stroke (OPENS-2)

The current endovascular treatment has increased the recanalization rate to more than 90%. Even so, the prognosis rate of stroke is still less than 50%. Our previous research confirmed that the neuroprotective effect of Normobaric Hyperoxia (NBO) from multiple perspectives. However, the clinical study on NBO was not satisfactory, which might be due to the absence of vascular recanalization therapy. Therefore, The investigators conducted this RCT study to further explore the Efficacy and safety of NBO combined with endovascular treatment in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Servo Controlled Oxygen Targeting Study

Most premature babies require oxygen therapy. There is uncertainty about what oxygen levels are the best. The oxygen levels in the blood are measured using a monitor called a saturation monitor and the oxygen the baby breathes is adjusted to keep the level in a target range. Although there is evidence that lower oxygen levels maybe harmful, it is not known how high they need to be for maximum benefit. Very high levels are also harmful. Saturation monitors are not very good for checking for high oxygen levels. For this a different kind of monitor, called a transcutaneous monitor, is better. Keeping oxygen levels stable is usually done by nurses adjusting the oxygen levels by hand (manual control). There is also equipment available that can do this automatically (servo control). It is not known which is best. Studies of automated control have shown that infants spend more time within their intended target oxygen saturation range. These have not included measurements of transcutaneous oxygen. The investigators aim to show the transcutaneous oxygen levels as well as the oxygen saturation levels when babies have their oxygen adjusted manually or automatically.

We assessed the effect of altering inspired gas on the 6MWT distance in COPD. We hypothesized that HeO2 would improve walking distance and reduce shortness of breath compared to both RA and O2, and potentially improve quality of life for COPD patients.

Normobaric Hyperoxia Combined With Reperfusion for Acute Ischemic Stroke

NBO is a nonpharmacological measure of neuroprotection. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the safety and efficiency of NBO(Normobaric hyperoxia) in the acute ischemic stroke patients who received endovascular treatment. Looking for more clinical evidence for the ischemic stroke patients who will be treated with NBO in the future.

The hypothesis implies that this work is the use of hyperoxia during cardiopulmonary bypass by his heart preconditioning effect is associated with a lower incidence of cardiac arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation) and lesions of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in cardiac surgery postoperative.

Oxygen Control and Weaning by O2matic to Patients Admitted With an Exacerbation of COPD

The aim of the study is to examine if automated oxygen delivery with O2matic allows for faster weaning from oxygen and better oxygen control than manually controlled oxygen therapy for patients admitted with an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Furthermore it will be tested if O2matic compared to manual control allows for faster discharge from hospital. Patients sense of security, anxiety and dyspnea will be evaluated by questionnaires.
