Thermoregulation During a 25-km Open Water Race

Hypothermia Due to Cold Environment

Open water swimming is a swimming discipline which takes place in outdoor water such as open oceans, lakes, and rivers. Elite swimmers are exposed to hypothermia when swimming in cold water, especially in long duration races, such as the 25-km race. The objective of this study is to evaluate the change in body core temperature in swimmers with continuous temperature monitoring during a 25-km race. The secondary objective is to identify the predictors of hypothermia and hypothermia-related drop-out.

Evaluation of a Patient Warming Concept Following the German S3 Guideline for Prevention of Intraoperative...

HypothermiaHypothermia1 more

The aim of the study is to evaluate a patient prewarming concept following the recommendations of the S3-guideline "Prevention of perioperative hypothermia" with respect to incidence and complications of perioperative hypothermia. The study hypothesis is that postoperative core temperature in adult patients after prewarming is significantly higher than in patients who were treated following actual standard protocol (passive insulation).

Systemic Prevention and Management for Perioperative Hypothermia and Its Effect on Patients Outcome...

Hypothermia; Anesthesia

This is a randomized, single-blinded, multi-center study clinical trial to determine both clinical and health outcomes of stratified warm strategy to prevent intraoperative hypothermia. Participants enrolled into this trial will be from elective major surgery population in PUMC Hospital, Beijing Hospital and Xuanwu Hospital. investigators plan to enroll approximately 800 participants. Hypothermia risk will be evaluated through PREDICTOR model in all participants. According to hypothermia risk level, these participants will be stratefied into high, moderate and low risk group. Participants in each group will be randomly categorize into warm group and control group. Active warm and fluid warm strategy, prewarm and fluid warm strategy and only prewarm strategy are used for high risk, moderate risk and low risk patients seperately. For controll group traditional passive warm was used.

Influence of Therapeutic Hypothermia on Resting Energy Expenditure

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

The purpose of this study is the evaluation of the influence of therapeutic hypothermia on resting energy expenditure (REE) in patients after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). We hypothesized that hypothermia would reduce resting energy expenditure in these patients.

Prevention of Hypothermia During Caesarean Section: Continuous Core Temperature Monitoring With...

Inadvertent Perioperative Hypothermia

Nowadays, caesarean sections account for about 7% of all surgical procedures worldwide. Over 30% of the patients undergoing a caesarean section experience a fall of the body core temperature under 36°C during the procedure. Following a retrospective cohort design, this study aims to examine the magnitude of hypothermia in the parturient and newborn population as well as the impact and efficiency of forced-air warming on preventing it. The researchers plan to conduct a retrospective analysis of the caesarean section treatment protocol at our institution over a period of 5 months including approximately 300 patients who underwent both elective and emergency caesarean sections.

Definite Stent Thrombosis in Comatose Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Survivors

Out of Hospital Cardiac ArrestStent Thrombosis2 more

Reliable data on stent thrombosis (ST) in comatose out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors is lacking. In comatose OHCA survivors suspicion of ST can be made with precise clinical monitoring of the patient with definite confirmation being possible only by coronary angiography or autopsy of deceased patients. However in addition to definite ST which can be confirmed using current protocols, additional ST which are clinically silent are plausible. These could be identified only by systematic coronary angiography of all OHCA survivors or by autopsy of deceased patients. Collectively with definite ST confirmed by coronary angiography upon clinical suspicion the incidence of all forms of ST in survivors of OHCA treated with PCI and hypothermia could be obtained. Consecutive comatose survivors of OHCA treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and hypothermia will be included. All study participants will receive treatment per our established clinical protocol and will be followed for 10 days. In all patients in whom clinical suspicion of ST will be made immediate coronary angiography and if necessary PCI will be carried out. In all patients that will die in the observed period of 10 days autopsy will be performed. Survivors however will have an additional control coronary angiography on 10th day after admission, to assess presence of clinically silent ST. We expect that the incidence of true definitive ST in comatose OHCA survivors treated with urgent PCI with stenting and hypothermia is greater than one, which is confirmed on the basis of clinical suspicion by angiography or later with autopsy.

Incidence of Perioperative Hypothermia in Pediatric Patients

Hypothermia; AnesthesiaHypothermia Following Anesthesia

Perioperative hypothermia is associated with many complications, including surgical site infections, delayed wound healing, coagulopathy, prolonged hospital and intensive care unit length of stay. Perioperative close monitoring of the body temperature is important, and this is recommended by many clinical practice guidelines. In this study the investigators aimed to detect the incidence of perioperative hypothermia in pediatric patients in the operating room, and to detect the possible associated risk factors.
