The Effects of Oxycodone Versus Sufentanil on Pain and Inflammatory Response After TACE
Hepatocellular CarcinomaTranscatheter Arterial Chemoembolization2 moreThe purpose of this randomized, double-blind trial was to compare the effects of preemptive Oxycodone and sufentanil at the same dose on pain and inflammatory response after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) of hepatocellular carcinoma. To study the effect of single dose intravenous injection of Oxycodone and sufentanil before TACE on inflammatory reaction after TACE; And (ii) evaluate the effects of different opioid drugs on pain and nausea/vomiting after TACE.
Colchicine and Inflammation in Hemodialysis Patients
End Stage Renal Disease on DialysisChronic, low-grade inflammation is regarded as a common comorbid condition in chronic dialysis patients. Increased inflammatory markers in chronic dialysis patients are associated with adverse clinical outcomes . Considering the association of low-grade inflammation with high rate of morbidity and mortality we decided to evaluate the anti inflammatory effect of colchicine on inflammatory markers in hemodialysis patients
Targeting the Gut Dysbiosis to Treat Inflammation-driven Synaptopathy in MS
Patient ParticipationInflammatory synaptopathy is a prominent pathogenic process in multiple sclerosis (MS) induced by imbalanced immune system homeostasis. Its persistence causes excitotoxic neuronal damage, leading to motor and cognitive deficits. Although many advances have been made in MS treatment, the development of effective strategies for managing disease progression driven by excitotoxic synaptic dysfunctions is of great significance. Gut dysbiosis is commonly associated with both MS and obesity and high-fat diet (HFD) can exacerbate disease by acting on gut microbiota. Since gut microbiota can shape the immune response and brain functions, we propose to target gut dysbiosis by dietary supplementation of prebiotics and probiotics (Pre-Pro) to treat synaptopathy in both human and experimental model of MS, even when exacerbated by HFD. Overall, this project aims at unveiling the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective pathways activated by Pre-Pro supplementation to modulate the immune-synaptic axis.
Pain Inflammation and Cannabis in HIV
HIV InfectionsNeuropathic Pain1 moreThis study will examine how medical cannabis use affects neuropathic pain, inflammation and adverse events in people living with HIV (PLWH) with neuropathic pain. The investigators will observe how varying ratios of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) in medical cannabis impact neuropathic pain, inflammation and adverse events.
The Impact of a Race-Based Stress Reduction Intervention
RacismStress1 moreThe goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether a stress reduction program called Resilience, Stress, and Ethnicity (RiSE) improves well-being, inflammation, and the epigenome in African American (AA) women who have risk factors for heart or metabolic disease. The main question it aims to answer is whether an intervention that integrates cognitive-behavioral strategies focused on the impact that social stress, such as racism, has on the body, racial identity development, and empowerment. Participants will placed in one of the two following groups: The RiSE program will focus on teaching participants how to reduce their stress levels and will meet online weekly for approximately 2 hours each week for 8 consecutive weeks. The Health Education program will include education on how to improve general health and will meet online weekly for approximately 2 hours each week for 8 consecutive weeks. Participants will provide saliva to measure cytokines and DNA methylation (DNAm), complete questionnaires, and have blood pressure, heart rate, and weight measured at the following clinic visits: Prior to starting the intervention Mid-way through the intervention (Week 4) End of the intervention (Week 8) Six (6) months after the completion of the intervention
Regular Home Use of Dual-light Photodynamic Therapy on Oral Health in Adolescents Undergoing Fixed...
Orthodontic Appliance ComplicationPlaque2 moreThis study is designed to determine the efficacy of the Lumoral method on oral health in adolescents undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. Improved supragingival plaque control can help to also sustain the subgingival plaque management in the long term. In addition, the device might have a photobiomodulation effect on periodontal tissues.
Clinical Observation of CABA System in the Treatment of End-stage Liver Disease With Inflammation...
To Evaluate the Clinical Efficacy and Safety of the New ALSSEnd-stage liver disease (ESLD) refers to the late stage of liver disease caused by various chronic liver damage. ESLD is an important cause of global incidence rate and mortality, which has a significant impact on the health care system. ESLD is associated with various types of immune dysfunction. The artificial liver support system (ALSS) is an extracorporeal support system that temporarily and partially replaces the partial function of the liver. Its treatment mechanism is to remove all kinds of harmful substances, supplement essential substances, improve the internal environment, create conditions for hepatocyte regeneration and liver function recovery, or use it as a symptomatic support treatment method during the perioperative period of liver transplantation. In this study, we plan to use BS330 for plasma bilirubin adsorption. On this basis, we will add a CA280 cytokine adsorption column to establish a new artificial liver combination model CABA for the immune inflammatory damage mechanism of liver failure.
Colchicine Effect on Perivascular Inflammation Index on Coronary CTA
AtherosclerosisInflammatory Response1 moreInflammation is an important pillar of atherogenesis in coronary disease. Studies have documented the prognostic power of measuring coronary perivascular adipose tissue attenuation (PVAT) and its good correlation as an early inflammatory biomarker in the atherogenesis process, in addition to being a predictor for cardiovascular events in the future. Colchicine, a medication with well-documented anti-inflammatory action and with an impact on reducing cardiovascular outcomes, may have an action in reducing FAI (fat attenuation index). This study aims to evaluate the effect of colchicine in reducing coronary perivascular inflammation.
Alleviation by Fisetin of Frailty, Inflammation, and Related Measures in Older Adults
Frail Elderly SyndromeThis is a pilot study to test the efficacy of the anti-inflammatory drug (Fisetin) in reducing inflammatory factors in blood in elderly adults and to test the efficacy of the drug (Fisetin) in reducing frailty and markers of inflammation, insulin resistance, and bone resorption in elderly adults.
The Role of Secondary Bile Acids in Intestinal Inflammation
Ulcerative ColitisPouchitisThe cause of Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is unknown, but intestinal bacteria-involved in the production of molecules that impact health-are widely accepted to play a key role. A significant proportion of IBD patients with pouches (surgically created rectums after the diseased colon is removed) continue to have inflammation similar to their previous disease. Only a few microbes are known to have the capability to modify primary bile acids (PBAs) made by the liver to secondary bile acids (SBAs). SBAs are some of the most common metabolites in the colon and play key roles in several diseases. In this study the investigators will investigate if ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) may reduce inflammatory markers and improve quality of life (as assessed by validate survey) in those subjects with active antibiotic refractory or antibiotic dependent pouchitis.
