Investigating the Link Between Type 2 Immunity and NAFLD in Human Obesity

ObesityMorbid2 more

This study is being done to better understand the relationship between inflammation in adipose tissue (AT), abnormal deposition of fat around the liver and how this affects its appearance and function and ultimately insulin resistance.

Evaluation of Inflammatory Markers in ph Negative Myeloproliferative Neoplasms: Impact on Outcome...

Myeloproliferative DiseaseInflammatory Markers

This study aims to observe inflammatory biomarkers and their trend over the history of the disease in patients suffering from MPN Ph negative; it also wants to identify any correlations between the aforementioned biomarkers and disease outcomes, considering first of all the occurrence of thrombo-haemorrhagic events and the evolution in the accelerated / blast phase of the disease, shedding light on new tools that can potentially guarantee a prompt and better risk stratification

Allergy and Immunology Natural History Study

Immune DeficiencyImmune Dysregulation Disorder1 more

This protocol is a natural history study designed to evaluate subjects (and some family members) with suspected or identified genetic diseases of allergic inflammation or Immune Dysregulation. Patients determined by clinical history and outside evaluations to be of interest will be consented and enrolled into this study. Blood specimens, stored blood products and derivatives, saliva, hair, fingernail clippings, cord blood, umbilical cord, bone marrow, tissue biopsies and/or buccal swabs from such patients and/or their family members will be obtained for research studies related to understanding genetic and immunopathogenic bases of these diseases. Outside medical records may be obtained, and patient evaluations may be performed to correlate to research laboratory testing results.

The Role of Cytomegalovirus and Inflammation on Patient Symptoms and Outcomes in Ovarian Cancer...

Ovarian CancerFallopian Tube Cancer1 more

Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a widely prevalent virus in the general US population, has been shown to be associated with increased inflammation and mortality. Previous small pilot studies have demonstrated that latent CMV may be reactivated during chemotherapy in cancer patients, and may be associated with unfavorable cancer outcomes such as fatigue and increased mortality. The central research idea for this study, supported by previous preliminary data, is that CMV reactivation is an unrecognized complicating factor in the treatment of ovarian cancer that impacts patient outcomes. The overarching goals of this observational study are: To assess how CMV infection is associated with ovarian cancer symptoms over the course of the disease and its treatment. To describe the relationship between CMV reactivation in ovarian cancer patients, survival, fatigue, and other QOL outcomes, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally.

Diagnosis and Management of Inflammatory and Infectious Diseases

InfectionInflammation

This protocol is being established to cover the evaluation of patients with inflammatory and/or infectious diseases which are not covered under previously existing protocols. The purpose of such a protocol is that frequently patients are referred to us with either diagnosed or undiagnosed illnesses which would be of interest to our teaching program or which would serve as a source of patients to subsequently be entered into established, ongoing protocol studies. Such patients will be admitted to the protocol and handled according to accepted medical practice of diagnosis and treatment....

Bowel Sounds Analysis in Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Relationship With wPCDAI

Bowel SoundsIntestinal Inflammation1 more

The precise and noninvasive evaluation of disease activity among patients with Crohn's disease is not easy, especially for children. It deals with clinical, biological, histological and radiological parameters. Bowel sounds (BS) when evaluated by a stethoscope are modified by several factors including surgery, infection, drugs or intestinal inflammation. These factors can interact on intestinal motricity. There is a direct relationship between gastrointestinal motility and characteristics of BW. The study of BS using a stethoscope is a simple method, although operator dependent and subjective, with a wide inter and intraindividual variability. Some studies among adults showed interest in the spectral analysis of BS to assess gastrointestinal motility. This more precise and reproducible method is not operator dependent. To date, no such study has evaluated the correlation between disease activity and the spectral pattern of BS. of this project is to assess the correlation between disease activity and the spectral pattern of BS in pediatric Crohn's disease.
