Soy Modulation of Immune Activation, LDL- Levels, and Lowering Inflammation by Pretzel Isoflavone...
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) InfectionHypercholesterolemiaCombination antiretroviral therapy (ART, HIV medications) dramatically increases the expected lifespan of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)infected patients; yet, the risks for cardiovascular disease (CVD), such as heart attacks and stroke, are increased in this population. This increased risk may be linked to persistent inflammation and activation of the immune system. Although the relationship between cardiovascular disease and HIV-infected individuals who are taking HIV medications is not well understood, the team of researchers involved in this study observed that a diet rich in soy, at levels recommended by the FDA (Federal Drug Administration), improved cholesterol levels and inflammation in individuals not infected with HIV. From this study, the researchers hope to gain understanding on how dietary soy will impact HIV-infected individuals who are taking HIV medications. Two pretzels with and without soy developed at OSU (Ohio State University) in the Department of Food Science and Technology and used in previous clinical trials will be used to investigate how the pretzel snacks will affect your cardiovascular disease risk, immunity, and how your body breaks down naturally occurring chemicals from soy.

The Intestinal Innate Immune System in Newborns. Development and Inflammation in Health and Disease...
Preterm InfantsTerm Infants3 moreThe goal of this observational study is to determine the normal development of the human intestinal immune system in premature and mature neonatal life and to determine the pathophysiology behind life-threatening gastrointestinal diseases that appear during early life. The main questions aim to answer are: to determine the normal development of the human intestinal immune system in premature and mature neonatal life and to determine the pathophysiology behind life-threatening gastrointestinal diseases that appear during early life. is to investigate the development of the immune system in relation to enteral nutrition during the neonatal period. Participants will be asked to give faecal samples from day 1 of life and weekly for the following weeks until discharge (preterm infants). Further, surgery faecal samples and intestinal tissue will be collected proximal and distal to the pathology. In cases with a stoma, and when the child will undergo later reversal surgery, tissue samples from the proximal and distal ends of the intestine will be collected together with fecal samples (preterm and children up to 1 year of age who need to undergo intestinal surgery due to atresia).

Study to Evaluate the Effect on Parameters of Systemic Inflammation and Disease Outcomes and Safety...
Acute ST Segment Elevation Myocardial InfarctionThe goal of the study is to evaluate the effect of single administration of RPH-104 at 80 mg and 160 mg on parameters of systemic inflammation and outcomes of the disease in subjects with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)

Clobetasol Propionate Ophthalmic Nanoemulsion 0.05% for the Treatment of Inflammation and Pain Associated...
CataractCataract surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures performed worldwide. In fact, in 2017, 3.8 million cataracts procedures were performed in the US. Despite of surgical advances, pain and inflammation after ophthalmic surgery continues to be a burden on both patients and physicians. The treatment of postoperative pain is essential for hospitalized patients, but it is even more important for patients who are treated on an outpatient basis. This study will compare the efficacy and safety of clobetasol propionate ophthalmic nanoemulsion 0.05% to placebo, when administering one drop four times a day during 14 days after routine unilateral cataract surgery. Participants will undergo routine cataract surgery according to the ophthalmologist's normal procedures. Overall, 210 participants are planned to take part in the study. They will be screened across 20 centers in the US. Participants who experience postoperative inflammation on the first day following routine cataract surgery and who meet all other eligibility criteria will be randomly assigned by chance to one of two study groups in a 2:1 ratio to receive either clobetasol propionate ophthalmic nanoemulsion 0.05 % (N=140) or placebo (N=70) for the treatment of inflammation and pain associated with cataract surgery. Six (6) study visits are planned: Visit -1 (Screening), Visit 1 (Baseline; 24h after the surgery), Visit 2 (Day 3), Visit 3 (Day 8), Visit 4 (Day 15), and Visit 5 (Day 29). The ophthalmologist will administer the first dose of the study medication 24 hours after the surgery, at the end of the Baseline visit, at the study center. Study medication will be then dispensed to participants for self-administration during the study at a dosage of one drop four times a day, during 14 days. Direct instillation is the most efficient method for delivery to the ocular surface and is an accepted and widely used method for topical application to the eye. This study will examine effect and tolerability for 14 days of clobetasol propionate ophthalmic nanoemulsion 0.05% dosed four times a day. This study is being conducted to support an application for approval to market clobetasol propionate ophthalmic nanoemulsion 0.05% in the US for the indication of inflammation and pain after ocular surgery. The reference (comparator) product in this study, the vehicle, is expected to provide a lower efficacy rate when compared to clobetasol 0.05%.

A Study of TRS01 in Participants With Post-surgical Ocular Inflammation
Post Surgical Ocular InflammationThe objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of TRS01 eye drops as compared to placebo on participants with ocular inflammation after cataract surgery.

Effect of Sham Anti-inflammatory Diet on Inflammation After Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal Cord InjuryInflammationThis pilot study will evaluate the effects of a placebo anti-inflammatory diet in individuals with spinal cord injury. It is being performed to ensure that the placebo diet does not induce reductions in inflammation and also adequately conceals group allocation.

Vascular Inflammation and Anti-inflammatory Supplements After Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes
Pre-EclampsiaPre-Term2 moreWomen who had an adverse pregnancy outcome (APO), such as preeclampsia, preterm birth, or gestational diabetes, have a higher risk for heart disease. Some of the extra risk for heart disease after APOs is thought to be caused by inflammation. Investigators will randomize women who had an APO in the past 3 years to receive an anti-inflammatory supplement or serve as a time control. Investigators will compare blood pressure, arterial stiffness, blood vessel reactivity, and blood markers of inflammation between women who did and did not receive the supplement. Investigators will determine women's attitudes about taking a dietary supplement and measure whether the participants who receive the supplement take all or most of the doses.

Internet-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents With Sleep Problems- a Feasibility Trial...
Insomnia DisorderDepressive Disorder4 moreThe primary objective of this study is to test the feasibility and efficacy of Internet-delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for adolescents (13 - 17 years) with sleep problems (ICBT-I). All participants will receive ICBT-I for six weeks. The investigators will also evaluate the effect of the intervention on comorbid psychiatric symptoms and function.

Development of a New Toothpaste for the Removal of Dental Calculus.
CalculusDental2 morePeriodontal disease is amongst the most prevalent oral diseases worldwide and in North America. According to the 2007/09 Canadian Health Measures Survey, 16% of Canadian adults and 24% of older adults, 60 to 79 years of age, were found to have moderate periodontal disease. Moreover, 11% of Canadian adults were found to have calculus scores in the highest range. On the other hand, recent reports on the prevalence of periodontitis in the US showed that 47.2% of adults aged 30 years and older have some form of periodontal disease and 70.1% of adults 65 years and older have periodontal disease. The estimates also showed that the expenditure for periodontal treatments in the US is about approximately $ 14.3 billion. Since dental calculus plays an important etiological role in initiation and progression of periodontal diseases. Investigation and investment on preventive technologies to prevent the periodontal disease are important for any health care system and its end-users. Furthermore, the removal and prevention of dental calculus using an effective toothpaste could reduce the need for professional periodontal interventions or the time of these treatments that in turn reduces their cost and other burdens on patients. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of D-Tart toothpaste in removing dental calculus compared to Crest® (Complete Whitening plus Scope, tartar control, Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, OH), anti-tartar toothpaste with similar pH and texture to D- Tart toothpaste.

Non-pharmacological Mitigation of Psoriasis
PsoriasisStress5 moreIn the past few years, research has provided evidence for a possibility of dampening immune system by one's will after undergoing a specific training program. Aim of this study was to verity the efficacy in affecting both mind and body by assessing psoriasis activity and psychological functioning. Among the members of both of the groups intensity of skin lesions and pruritus were assessed, consultation regarding treatment took place and multiple questionnaires regarding sleep quality, mindfulness and depressive symptoms were distributed. Blood samples were collected to asses intensity of inflammation, including interleukins.
