Project HERO: Health Empowerment & Recovery Outcomes

Prostate CancerBladder Cancer7 more

Project HERO is a 12-week study of the efficacy of Body Mind Training (BMT) for reducing fatigue in male cancer survivors. This 3-arm randomized clinical trial will examine inflammatory biology and selected gene-expression pathways that are hypothesized to contribute to the intervention's effect.

HFNO Combined With NPA Reduces Hypoxia During Sedated Gastrointestinal Endoscopy In Obese Patients...

Gastric CancerGastric Ulcer2 more

Obesity is associated with adverse airway events including desaturation during deep sedation. Previous studies have suggested that high-flow nasal oxygenation may be superior to regular (low-flow) nasal cannula for prevention of hypoxia during Sedated Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in non-obesity patients. The prerequisite of high-flow nasal oxygenation is keeping airway patency. Our pervious study demonstrated that nasopharyngeal airway has the similar efficacy of jaw-lift. In present study we aimed to determine whether high-flow nasal oxygenation combined with nasopharyngeal airway could reduce the incidence of hypoxia during Sedated Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in obese patients.

Nutrition in Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor

Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor

It is well known that the prevalence of malnutrition or risk of malnutrition in cancer patients is high, as well as its impact on different parameters such as hospitalization, survival or response to certain treatments. In patients with gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine tumors (NET), due to their heterogeneity and longer survival, it is expected that the prevalence of malnutrition is probably underdiagnosed, as well as the existence of a negative impact on different parameters (quality of life, survival). So far, the studies carried out on nutrition and NET are very scarce and none has been carried out so far in Spain. Before being able to carry out nutritional intervention studies on these patients, it is necessary to know the reality of the nutritional status of patients with NETs in Spain. The main motivation for the NUTRIGETNE study is to evaluate the epidemiological status of nutrition in NETs in the spanish population. In addition to know the epidemiological picture, it is intended to study the nutritional status from different points of view: analytical, clinical, anthropometric, etc. Besides, the study of nutritional status will allow us to closely monitor the patients who have a higher risk of malnutrition and to propose early interventions for those, as well as the impact of their nutritional status on different parameters: survival, hospitalization, quality of life or responses to the treatments. NUTRIGETNE is a cross-sectional, open and multicenter study in which the nutritional status of patients with GEP NET in Spain will be evaluated.

Response Prediction of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy in Gastro- Intestinal Cancer

Gastric CancerColon Cancer1 more

Patients with gastric or colon cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis will receive a biopsy of the tumor during their primary curative surgery. The operation is performed according to standard and includes resection of the primary tumor and any metastases and followed by HIPEC (Intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion) according to the respective hospital standard. Organoid cultures from the biopsies are established in the research laboratory. Various chemotherapeutic agents are tested on these tumor organoids in the laboratory and the tumor organoids are analyzed in detail with regard to genetic alterations in order to find alterations that can be addressed, if necessary, by means of targeted drugs against peritoneal carcinomatosis.

The iCaRe2 is a multi-institutional resource created and maintained by the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center to collect and manage standardized, multi-dimensional, longitudinal data and biospecimens on consented adult cancer patients, high-risk individuals, and normal controls. The distinct characteristic of the iCaRe2 is its geographical coverage, with a significant percentage of small and rural hospitals and cancer centers. The iCaRe2 advances comprehensive studies of risk factors of cancer development and progression and enables the design of novel strategies for prevention, screening, early detection and personalized treatment of cancer. Centers with expertise in cancer epidemiology, genetics, biology, early detection, and patient care can collaborate by using the iCaRe2 as a platform for cohort and population studies.
