Topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) is widely used to treat superficial non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and dysplasia, notably actinic keratosis and may also be effective in a range of other dermatological conditions. A major limitation of PDT is pain during irradiation. A lack of knowledge of the mechanism of PDT-induced pain has limited the development of effective approaches for prevention or relief of this adverse effect. The investigators have investigated the possible efficacy of menthol for PDT pain ex vivo and will now study this in a clinical trial. This proposal describes the prospective randomised double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial that will be undertaken to investigate the use of topical menthol for PDT-induced pain relief in patients with actinic keratosis of the face and scalp who will be attending general dermatology and PDT outpatient clinics at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

This research study is being done to compare the safety and effectiveness of GDC 695 (test drug) against the currently marketed reference drug (diclofenac sodium gel, 3%) and to establish that these two drugs work better than placebo in the treatment of actinic keratosis.

The objective of the trial is to compare the short term efficacy of LEO 43204 gel with vehicle gel in AK on face or chest when applied topically once daily for 3 consecutive days as field treatment

This is a randomized, vehicle controlled, active comparator, parallel group, study with a total duration of 24 weeks including screening and follow-up. Study drug is applied topically for 2 cycles of 4 week treatment, separated by 4 weeks off-treatment. Assessors of study endpoints are blinded to treatment allocation.

Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Large-Scale Field-Directed Topical Therapy of Actinic Keratosis of the Chest w/Ingenol Mebutate 0.015%

The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of LAS41005 in comparison to placebo and to LAS106521 in actinic keratosis (AK).

To determine and compare the safety and efficacy of broad area photodynamic therapy with aminolevulinic acid (ALA-PDT) following topical retinoid pre-treatment vs ALA-PDT with occlusion only (no pretreatment) in subjects with dorsal hand/forearm actinic keratoses, with an incubation time of 60 minutes, using blue light.
