Objective and Subjective Outcomes of a Trifocal IOL in Eyes With Different AL

CataractPresbyopia4 more

This prospective cohort study enrolled patients with implantation of a trifocal IOL. Only one eye of each patient was enrolled. Eyes were devided into three groups according the axial length (AL), including the short AL group, the control group and the long AL group. Manifest refraction, uncorrected and distance-corrected visual acuity at different distances, contrast sensitivity, aberrations and IOL decentration were measured three months after surgery. Spectacle independence, adverse photic phenomena, overall satisfaction and life quality were assessed with a questionnaire.

Vitreous Hyper Reflective Dots in Association With Pseudophakic Cystoid Macular Edema

Cystoid Macular Edema Following Cataract SurgeryVitreous Hyperreflective Dots

The aim of this study is to assess the association between vitreous hyper-reflective dots (VHD) and the macular thickness changes following uneventful phacoemulsification. In this prospective study the investigators performed optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging in patients undergoing cataract surgery preoperatively and postoperatively after 1 week, 1 month and 3 months and analyzed the OCTs for VHDs. The investigators then measured the macular thickness in patients with VHDs and without VHDs and correlated the macular thickness with the number of VHDs.

Intraocular LensCataract1 more

The purpose of this study is to compare visual performance and quality of life (QOL) following bilateral implantation of a novel non-diffractive extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL) (AcrySof® IQ Vivity, Alcon, TX, USA) and a trifocal IOL (Acrysof® IQ PanOptix, Alcon, Fort Worth, TX) in a prospective comparative interventional case series.

Achieving Hybrid Monovision By Paring Monofocal And EDOF Lens Technology

Cataract Senile

Modern day cataract surgery isn't just a rehabilitative procedure anymore but rather aims at improving a patient's quality of life by reducing the need for spectacles in everyday life to a minimum. One way of achieving this goal is by using different lens technologies, such as a monofocal lens paired a lens with EDOF technology, as EDOF lenses provide an enhanced depth of focus by creating a single elongated focal point. As this "mix-and-match" is well established, the aim of this study is to compare the monofocal lens cohort to the EDOF lens cohort and evaluate visual acuity and patient satisfaction.

Evaluation of Tear Film Lipid Layer Thickness Change After Cataract Surgery

Cataract Patients

This study will compare cataract patients before and after phacoemulsification. Evaluations will be performed before and 1 and 3 months following cataract surgery, including measurement of tear film lipid layer thickness, tear film break up time, Schirmer test, corneal and conjunctival fluorescein staining, examination of lid margins and meibomian glands, and the Ocular Surface Disease Index.

An Interocular Comparative Study of Unilateral Cataract

Cataract

The purpose of this cross-sectional study is to compare bilateral anterior segment parameters, macular thickness, and BCVA at 3 months after uncomplicated unilateral pediatric cataract extraction with primary IOL implantation to explore any possible interocular differences and their possible relationships.

Intraocular Lens Power Calculation Using Pre- and Intra-operative Measurements

Cataract

Recently a prototype of a combination of an anterior segment OCT (VISANTE; Carl Zeiss Meditec AG) and an operating microscope (OPMI 200; Carl Zeiss Meditec AG) was introduced that allows measurements of the crystalline lens as well as the lens capsule itself after removing the crystalline lens of cataract patients intra-operatively. This device uses OCT technology to create high resolution B-scans (=images) of the anterior segment of the eye. The OCT was shown to be highly reproducible for ACD measurements pre-operatively 12 and small changes of the IOL/crystalline lens can be detected 13. In a previous study (EK-10-125-0710) that was recently published in the journal "Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science" it was shown that intra-operative measurements of the anterior lens capsule improve the refractive outcome theoretically.14 However, in this previous study conventional eye models were used for IOL power calculation and only the intra-operative measurement replaced pre-operative ACD measurements. Aim of this study is to observe, whether the postoperative refractive outcome could be improved theoretically by using both pre- and intra-operative measurements for retrospective IOL power calculation with new eye models.

How Astigmatism Influences Corneal Biomechanics and Intraocular Pressure

Corneal AstigmatismIntraocular Pressure1 more

The aim of the study was to identify whether preoperative corneal astigmatism can influence corneal biomechanics and the assessment of intraocular pressure (IOP) following micro-incision phacoemulsification.
