Current standard practice utilizes Gastrostomy Tube placement to manage adverse nutritional effects related to Head and Neck cancer treatment.

Assessment of Food Practices by Residents in Nursing Homes

Malnutrition

Nutrition is an essential component of health and a key determinant of aging and quality of life of individuals. Malnutrition in the elderly is now recognized as a public health problem affecting nearly half of residents in nursing homes. The fight against malnutrition requires to rethink the meal in all its dimensions, beyond the nutritional needs. In order to improve practices of care at the elderly, the impact of environmental and social aspects of food in nursing homes has been assessed. The social environment and interactions during the meals are now identified as effective ways to stimulate food intake and increase feelings of well-being in the elderly. The objectives of the study are to characterize the appreciation of food and social interactions during the meals and to study the relationships between the quality of food practices and nutritional status of the residents in nursing homes to improve their quality of life.

Comparison of Nutrition Risk Screens

This research study will compare two different screens for nutrition risk in patients who are in the hospital. We will be comparing the ThedaCare Nutrition Risk Screen to see if it is as good and consistent as the standard NRS 2002 Nutrition Risk Screen.

This is a cohort, observational, prospective, multicenter, longitudinal study. 100 patients will be followed postoperatively for a period of 12 months. Intermediate statistical analyzes will be performed at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months. This observational study is non-interventional, it does not change the usual care of patients who underwent a bariatric surgery. Data collection will be carried out during routine visits planned in the post-operation usual follow-up. The blood tests are part of the patient's usual care for his bariatric surgery. Surgeons will include patients for whom they have freely decided to use the dietary supplement Refill under the care of the treatment of obesity. The motivation of the patient and his commitment to the project is evaluated by the surgeon. The main objective is to evaluate the efficacy of the dietary supplement Refill. The primary endpoint is the reduction of iron deficiency.

Acceptability of LNS for Infants and Young Children in Guatemala

Malnutrition

This study aims to assess the acceptability of lipid-based nutrient supplements (LNS) for use as nutritional supplements for infants and young children in Guatemala. The study was conducted in three phases. Phase 1 was a test-feeding to compare the acceptability of two different flavors of LNS (peanut and cinnamon) in infants and young children and their mothers or caregivers in terms of taste, smell and texture, as well as amount of the test-dose consumed. In Phase 2, children in the Phase 1 trial received a 2-week supply of one of the LNS products, which they consumed daily in their homes for 14 days under real-life conditions. Direct observation of supplement use and in-depth interviews with mothers, caregivers and health staff providing services in communities will be part of this phase too. In Phase 3, focus group discussions (FGD) were held with participants (mothers and caregivers) as well as with health staff providing services in communities to discuss different aspects of infant and child feeding and best ways for the LNS product to be used in the context of Guatemala. We hypothesized that both flavors of LNS would be accepted by Guatemalan infants and young children children and their mothers or caregivers.
