PIT: Prophylactic Irradiation of Tracts in Patients With Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma

The PIT (Prophylactic Irradiation of Tracts) trial will determine whether or not PIT radiotherapy is effective in preventing or delaying the onset of chest nodules in patients with Mesothelioma.

Cediranib Maleate in Treating Patients With Malignant Mesothelioma That Cannot Be Removed By Surgery...

Advanced Malignant MesotheliomaEpithelial Mesothelioma3 more

This phase II trial is studying how well cediranib maleate works in treating patients with malignant mesothelioma that cannot be removed by surgery. Cediranib maleate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor

Pemetrexed Disodium and Cisplatin Followed by Surgery With or Without Radiation Therapy in Treating...

Malignant Mesothelioma

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as pemetrexed disodium and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving chemotherapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving radiation therapy after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying how well giving pemetrexed disodium together with cisplatin followed by surgery with or without radiation therapy works in treating patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Extrapleural Pneumonectomy With Intraoperative Intrathoracic/Intraperitoneal Heated Cisplatin With...

Pleural MesotheliomaMalignant Pleural Mesothelioma

The purposes of this study are: to evaluate the effects (good and bad) that administering heated cisplatin into the chest and abdomen cavity following surgical resection has on malignant mesothelioma; to collect data on the toxicity of cisplatin given directly into the chest and abdomen, and the levels of the cisplatin in the body; to determine if this treatment method has the possibility of helping patients with pleural mesothelioma live longer; and to determine if this treatment method can help decrease the rate of local recurrence of mesothelioma.

Inhaled Doxorubicin in Treating Patients With Advanced Solid Tumors Affecting the Lungs

Lung CancerMalignant Mesothelioma1 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving drugs in different ways may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of inhaled doxorubicin in treating patients who have advanced solid tumors affecting the lungs.

Erlotinib in Treating Patients With Solid Tumors and Liver or Kidney Dysfunction

Adult Anaplastic AstrocytomaAdult Anaplastic Ependymoma85 more

Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of erlotinib in treating patients who have metastatic or unresectable solid tumors and liver or kidney dysfunction. Biological therapies such as erlotinib may interfere with the growth of tumor cells and slow the growth of the tumor

Combination Chemotherapy Before Surgery in Treating Patients With Mesothelioma of the Lung

Malignant Mesothelioma

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving chemotherapy drugs before surgery may shrink the tumor so that it can be removed during surgery. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients who have mesothelioma of the lung.

Advanced Malignant MesotheliomaLocalized Malignant Mesothelioma3 more

This phase II trial is studying how well EF5 works in detecting oxygen level and blood vessels in tumor cells of patients who are undergoing photodynamic therapy for intraperitoneal or pleural cancer. Diagnostic procedures using EF5 to detect oxygen level and blood vessels in tumor cells may help to improve the way photodynamic therapy is given

Combination Chemotherapy With or Without Bevacizumab in Treating Patients With Malignant Mesothelioma...

Advanced Malignant MesotheliomaEpithelial Mesothelioma3 more

This randomized phase II trial is to see if combination chemotherapy works better with or without bevacizumab in treating patients who have malignant mesothelioma. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block cancer growth in different ways. Some block the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Others find cancer cells and help kill them or deliver cancer-killing substances to them. It is not yet known if combination chemotherapy works better with or without bevacizumab in treating malignant mesothelioma.
