Molecular, Pathologic Intra Tumoral Heterogeneity in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma
MesotheliomaMalignant2 moreMalignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare pleural cancer, which could be primary or secondary to an asbestos exposure. To enhance our knowledge of this rare disease, an exploration of genetic and tumor mechanism is mandatory. One of the principal difficulty is to harvest sufficient tumour pieces to perform multi-omics analysis. The goal of the SCITH-MESO study is to harvest larges pieces of tumour during a routine surgical procedure of MPM diagnosis by mean of pleural biopsies during VATS surgery. Operating samples will increase a tissue bank collection (CRB).
Comparison of Progel Sealant to Standard of Care (SOC) for Patients Undergoing Decortication
Lung DiseasesMesotheliomaThe goal of this clinical research study is to compare Progel® (a type of surgical sealant that is made from human blood products) to the standard of care (talcum powder) to learn if one method is better than the other for preventing air leaks in patients having a pleurectomy decortication.
Studying the Clinical Trial Experiences of Patients With Mesothelioma
MesotheliomaMedical research participation percentages haven't always been fully representative of a given demographic. The goal is to find out which aspects of a clinical study may make it more difficult for patients to take part or see it through. The data will be evaluated through different demographic lenses and identify trends that could help improve the experience of future mesothelioma patients during clinical trials.
Feasibility of an Early Palliative Care Intervention for Metastatic Cancer Patients. A Phase 2 Study....
Lung CancerMesothelioma2 moreThe objective of this phase 2 study is to evaluate the feasibility of an early palliative care intervention for metastatic cancer patients. Feasibility will be assessed in terms of percentage of patients that accept the proposal of the early palliative care intervention and that effectively start to be followed in the palliative care out-patient clinic. The study will be performed in a consecutive series of newly diagnosed patients affected by lung cancer (NSCLC or SCLC, stage IIIb, IV), mesothelioma (stage II, IV), pancreas (stage IV), stomach (stage IIIb-IV).
Quality of Life and Survivorship Care in Patients Undergoing Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy...
Advanced Malignant MesotheliomaCarcinoma of the Appendix15 moreRATIONALE: An orientation and patient education program and telephone counseling may help improve the quality of life in patients with peritoneal surface malignancies. PURPOSE: This clinical trial studies quality of life and survivorship care in patients undergoing surgery and chemotherapy for peritoneal surface malignancies.
Printed Education Materials in Patients Who Are Finishing Treatment for Stage I, Stage II, or Stage...
Breast CancerColorectal Cancer5 moreRATIONALE: Printed educational materials, such as the Facing Forward Series: Life After Cancer Treatment manual, may help make the transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor easier in patients who are finishing treatment for cancer. It is not yet known if the Facing Forward Series: Life After Cancer Treatment manual and The Cancer Information Service, Questions and Answers fact sheet is more effective than the The Cancer Information Service, Questions and Answers fact sheet alone in helping to make life after cancer treatment easier and to improve quality of life in patients with breast cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, or chest cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well printed education materials work in assisting patients who are finishing treatment for stage I, stage II, or stage IIIA breast cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, or chest cancer to make the transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor easier.
Early Palliative Care With Standard Care or Standard Care Alone in Improving Quality of Life of...
Liver CancerAnxiety Disorder8 moreThe study intervention consists of the early integration of palliative care services into standard oncology care in an outpatient setting for patients with advanced lung and non-colorectal gastrointestinal malignancies who are not being treated with curative intent. The palliative care services provided to patients randomized to the intervention will be provided by board-certified physicians and/or advanced practice nurses and will focus on the following areas: (1) developing and maintaining the therapeutic relationship with the patients and family caregivers; (2) assessing and treating patient symptoms; (3) providing support and reinforcement of coping with advanced cancer in patients and family caregivers; (4) assessing and enhancing prognostic awareness and illness understanding in patients and family caregivers; (5) assisting with treatment decision-making; and (6) end-of-life care planning.

Intravenous Magnesium in Patients Receiving Cisplatin
MesotheliomaThis research study, is trying to determine the highest dose of magnesium that can be given safely to people with malignant mesothelioma receiving intraoperative chemotherapy with cisplatin who are at risk for acute kidney injury. The name(s) of the study drug involved in this study is magnesium sulfate.
