The Effects of Orally Ingesting Branched Chained Amino Acids on Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness in...
Type 2 DiabetesHealthy IndividualsThe purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the 3 Branched Chained Amino Acids (isoleucine, leucine, and valine) on treating Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, a type of muscle pain which usually develops after exercising.
Nutritional Supplements for Exercise Recovery
Post-exercise Muscle SorenessThis study will examine the effects of nutritional supplement on post-exercise muscle soreness as well as recovery of muscle strength and function.
Pre-sleep Protein Supplementation and Load Carriage Recovery in British Army Recruits
Protein-energy; ImbalanceMuscle SorenessLoad carriage is a common military activity and has been shown to induce acute exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) and impair muscle function. Protein supplementation can accelerate muscle recovery by attenuating EIMD and muscle function loss. This study investigated the impact of an additional daily bolus of protein prior to sleep throughout training on acute muscle recovery following a load carriage test in British Army recruits. Muscle function (maximal jump height), perceived muscle soreness and urinary markers of muscle damage were assessed before (PRE), immediately post (POST), 24-hours post (24h-POST) and 40-hours post (40h-POST) a load carriage test.
Mirthful Laughter and Muscle Soreness / Pain
PainThe purpose of this study is first to investigate the effect of a controlled intervention with a comedy video on pain tolerance in a social setting while quantitatively measuring laughter in a young healthy population experiencing delayed onset muscle soreness. The comedy intervention will be compared to a control of watching a documentary. The second aim is to examine to what extent various methods of eliciting pain would cause physiological responses that confound the interpretation of a pain stimulus.
Branched Chain Amino Acid Plus Glucose Supplement Reduces Exercise-Induced Delayed Onset Muscle...
Exercise-induced Delayed Onset Muscle SorenessThe purpose of this study is to determine if a dietary supplement containing branched chain amino acids will reduce the muscle soreness that sometimes occurs in the days following exercise.
Prophylactic Gabapentin for Taxane-Induced Arthralgia and Myalgia Syndrome in Breast Cancer Patients...
Invasive Breast CancerChemotherapeutic Toxicity2 moreTaxane-induced arthralgia and myalgia syndrome (TAMS) is one of the most common side effects of taxane chemotherapy. This prospective randomized controlled trial will evaluate the efficacy of gabapentin administered prophylactically on days -2 to +5 during the taxane-portion of chemotherapy for adjuvant breast cancer patients on reducing TAMS. This will be compared to observation alone.
Masseter Myofascial Pain Relief Following an Intra-muscular Injection With Botulinum Toxin Type...
MyalgiaMyofascial PainInvestigating the effect of a single intramuscular injection with botulinum toxin (BTX) compared to NaCl in patients with jaw muscle myalgia. This investigation is designed as an double blind multicenter pilot study for hypothesis generation on 48 patients with chronic jaw muscle myalgia at four specialist dental clinics. The subjects visit the clinic on 3 predefined occasions, one telephone call and one scheduled evaluation by mail. The objective is primarily to evaluate the change in number of days with pain at two months following one session of BTX injections of the masseter and temporalis muscles in subjects with jaw muscle myalgia pain. The outcome of this study will serve as a basis for a later randomized controlled trial
The Synergy Trial: Methylphenidate Plus a CFS-Specific Nutrient Formula as a Treatment for Chronic...
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)The Synergy Trial will evaluate the safety and efficacy of a currently available medication (methylphenidate hydrochloride) combined with a CFS-specific dietary supplement (CFS Nutrient Formula) to treat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).
Effects of Parmigiano Reggiano on Skeletal Muscle Damage in Older Adults
Old Age; AtrophyInflammatory Response1 moreAging is associated with the loss of muscle mass and function (sarcopenia) and reduced tissue regenerative capacity. Eccentric exercise (ECC) is a model of RET that can be used with the elderly, due to the ability of the muscle to combine high muscle strength production with low energy cost. ECC contractions are significantly more damaging to the muscles and produce greater muscle strength, for these reasons there is a greater risk of inducing muscle damage before the muscle is able to adapt. Parmigiano Reggiano (PR) has some peculiar bromatological characteristics. The proteins contained in it, and in particular the potentially bioactive peptide sequences, can rapidly provide the amino acids necessary to promote muscle growth and repair during exercise. Furthermore, PR can be an important source of fatty acids, of which a significant amount of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) which are known to have important clinical effects on body composition and metabolic health and can have a systemic anti-inflammatory effect. Therefore, the central hypothes is that PR consumed during RET can provide more energy substrates and improve muscle recovery. To date, no studies have studied its function on recovery from exercise nor in the elderly.
