Impact of ERAS on Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting After Sleeve
Nausea and VomitingPostoperativeThe use of bariatric surgery in the treatment of severe obesity has several benefits in terms of sustainable weight loss, improvements, or resolution of several metabolic comorbidities as well as improved life expectancy. Gastric surgery, history of acid reflux and reduction in gastric size, in particular after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), surgery may further contribute to postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). The combination of antiemetic drugs that act at different receptors is more effective than using only one drug in preventing PONV in patients with increased risk for these events.
Paracetamol and Metamizole With SPI-guided Anaesthesia for VRS
Vitreoretinal SurgeriesPostoperative Nausea and Vomiting1 moreThe aim of this randomized trial is to assess the efficacy of preemptive analgesia using paracetamol or metamizole or both of them under SPI-guided anaesthesia for vitreoretinal surgery (VRS), presence of PONV (postoperative nausea and vomiting) and oculocardiac reflex (OCR) and compare Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) with Surgical Pleth Index (SPI) for monitoring pain perception postoperatively. Patients will receive general anaesthesia combined with either preemptive analgesia using preemptive intravenous infusion of 1,0 g of metamizol or preemptive intravenous infusion of 1,0 g of acetaminophen or both of them together.
The Effect of Preoperative Oral Dexamethasone Supplementation on the Outcome of Thyroidectomised...
HypocalcemiaVitamin D Deficiency5 moreGlucocorticoids are well known for their analgesic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and anti-emetic effects. Recovery time after thyroid surgery may depend on several factors, such as postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting, postoperative sore throat, voice disorders and symptomatic hypocalcaemia (low serum calcium level). However, there is little information in the literature about the preventive use of glucocorticosteroids in patients undergoing thyroid surgery. The aim of the study is to evaluate the clinical impact of preoperative oral dexamethasone supplementation on the surgical outcome in patients with multinodular goiter undergoing total thyroidectomy. Patients will be assigned to the supplementation group and the placebo group. In the supplementation group 8mg of dexamethasone will be administered orally one hour before surgery. In the postoperative period, the frequency and intensity of pain, nausea, vomiting, sore throat and hoarseness will be assessed. The incidence of symptoms of hypocalcaemia will also be evaluted. Preoperative and postoperative levels of vitamin D, cytokines, acute phase proteins and substances related to calcium metabolism will be measured in the blood. Cytokines levels in drainage fluid will also be assessed. The main hypothesis of the study is that in patients with supplementation postoperative discomfort and decrease in serum calcium and parathormone level and hypocalcemic symptoms will be less severe and the levels of proinflammatory substances will be decreased.
Dexamethasone at Night vs at Induction on PONV After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
Postoperative Nausea and VomitingPostoperative Pain1 moreSince the peak effect of the dexamethasone is delayed to 12-16 hours after iv administration, we designed this study to investigate the effect of administering dexamethasone at-night before surgery versus at-induction (the standard timing) in prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. A pilot randomized controlled study (60 cases) will be started to explore the potential difference, ensure correct and rigorous data collection, and calculate the sample size for a larger pragmatic trial.
Efficacy of Three Antiemetics in Preventing Nausea and Vomiting
Nausea and VomitingTo explore the effect of commonly used antiemetic drugs on reducing nausea and vomiting caused by intravenous tramadol injection, so as to reduce the incidence of nausea and vomiting in clinical use of tramadol and provide guidance for the clinical use of tramadol injection
Baclofen in Preventing Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting After Bariatric Surgery
Postoperative Nausea and VomitingLaparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy1 moreThis study aims to evaluate the possible efficacy of baclofen on postoperative nausea and vomiting in patient with morbid obesity who will undergo laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
Ondansetron and Gabapentin in Preventing Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting After Laparoscopic Sleeve...
Post Operative Nausea and VomitingSleeve Gastrectomy1 moreThe aim of this study is to compare the possible efficacy of ondansetron and gabapentin on postoperative nausea and vomiting in patient with morbid obesity who will undergo laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
Prevention of PONV With Traditional Chinese Medicine
Postoperative Nausea and VomitingPostoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is particularly one of the most common complications after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). It can lead to serious adverse events and delayed activity, and prolong the time of rehabilitation and discharge. Numbers of studies have been focused on identifying risk factors and therapies of PONV. Unfortunately, there' no consistent comments for PONV prevention in women after LSG. Notably, Zusanli (ST36) acupoint and anisodamine have been evidenced to treat various gastrointestinal conditions. The primary outcome of this study was to evaluate the impact of anisodamine injection in ST36 on PONV in women following bariatric surgery.
Effect of Opioid-free Anesthesia on PostOperative Nausea and Vomiting in Patients Undergoing Video-assisted...
Postoperative Nausea and VomitingOpioid Use1 moreThis study aimed to verify whether an Opioid-free Anesthesia (OFA) could effectively reduce the incidence of PONV after thoracoscopic-assisted surgery compared with standard general anesthesia (OA) regimens.
Dual-dose Aprepitant to Reduce Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting After Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery....
Postoperative Nausea and VomitingBariatric SurgeryPostoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is unpleasant and increases health care costs. Despite modern techniques and prophylaxis, PONV rates remain high after laparoscopic bariatric surgery. We aim to reduce PONV after laparoscopic bariatric surgery using aprepitant with a similar scheme used for emetogenic chemotherapy.
