Influence of CPB Temperature on CABG Morbidity
Cardiovascular DiseasesCoronary Disease3 moreTo compare three accepted modes of myocardial preservation, warm, tepid, and cold blood cardioplegia, coinciding with normothermic (37 degrees centigrade), tepid (32 degrees centigrade) and hypothermic (8 to 10 degrees centigrade) cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) to define differences in neurologic function in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients.
Accessible Mobile Health and Wellness
Physical DisabilityNeurologic DysfunctionCan community outreach education help develop self-sustaining wellness and exercise programs, and will associated wellness clinics help persons with a neurological physical disability achieve better well-being?
Optimal Growth of Preterm Infants With Growth Restriction
Growth FailureAdiposity2 moreIn this prospective randomized controlled multi center trial the investigators stratify "Very Low Birthweight " (VLBW)-infants with growth retardation in small for gestational age (SGA) or intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) - infants and aim to investigate the impact of a nutritional management with enhanced nutrients from discharge up to the 52nd week of postconceptional age on growth, body composition, metabolic programming, metabolomics, microbiome and long term neurodevelopmental outcome. In this study, the investigators will evaluate the difference in metabolic profiles of SGA and IUGR preterm infants. The investigators will further longitudinally assess, how different nutritional interventions affect the altered pathways in the first year of life and identify, in combination with data available from metabolic markers, microbiome and breast milk analysis, potential pathways resulting in increased disease risk later in life.
Investigation of an Updated Bone-anchored Sound Processor
Hearing LossHearing Loss10 moreThe study is a prospective, single-center, comparative, cross-over study with within-subject control design. In the investigation an updated sound processor will be tested at compared to the CE marked Ponto 3 SuperPower sound processor (available on the market since December 2016) in order to establish marketing claim(s) on the updated sound processor. The performance of the two sound processors will be evaluated via speech and hearing tests, and patient reported outcomes.
Estrogen Replacement to Reduce Risk of Neurologic Injury After Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery...
Coronary DiseaseCardiovascular Diseases2 moreThe purpose of this study is to test whether perioperative estrogen replacement in postmenopausal women reduces the risk for neurologic injury after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Music Therapy for Pain Modification in Pediatric Palliative Care
Neurological ImpairmentThe purpose of this within-subjects randomized controlled trial is to determine whether two music therapy interventions are efficacious in reducing pain symptoms, in order to improve the quality of care for children in pediatric hospice. The investigators hypothesize that both music therapy interventions, live guitar and vocal intervention and vibroacoustic intervention, will reduce behavioural pain scores and that behavioural pain scores will correlate with physiological outcome measures.
The Effects of a Long-lasting Infusion of Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) in Episodic Migraine...
MigrainePain4 moreVasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a peptide of 28 amino acid residues that belongs to the glucagon/secretin superfamily of peptides. Along with other neuropeptides, such as calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), it is released from the trigeminal afferents and exerts a strong vasodilating activity on the cranial vasculature. Especially, it shares 70% structure with PACAP and acts on the same receptors. But, unlike it, VIP cannot induce a long-lasting vasodilation and has a modest capability to induce migraine attacks. Whether it may induce migraine-like attacks in migraine patients, as a twenty-minute infusion of PACAP, is unknown.
The Effects of Intermittent Epidural Bolus on Fever During Labor Analgesia
Labor PainPain4 moreEpidural analgesia is associated with maternal intra-partum fever during labor. Intermittent epidural injections appear to reduce the incidence of maternal intra-partum fever compared to continuous epidural infusion during labor analgesia. However, the optimal combination of bolus volume and administrating interval has not yet been compared. The purpose of this prospective, randomized, double-blind trial was to determine how intermittent epidural bolus reduced the incidence of maternal intra-partum fever compared with continuous epidural infusion during labor.
Omega 3 and Ischemic Stroke; Fish Oil as an Option
Ischemic StrokeNeurological Injury8 moreIn this trial, The investigators are going to investigate the improvement of neurological functions and infarced area of the brain in ischemic stroke patients after ingestion of omega 3 products that have high concentrations of DHA and EPA in comparison to control group. The study will assess the improvement by computerized calculation of the size of the infarcted area before and after the intervention and neurological assessment tools. The researchers will follow the scientific and ethical regulations prevent any harmful effect on recruited subjects.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Can Improve Neurological State Post Meningioma Removal Surgery
Intracranial MeningiomaNeurologic DeficitsThe aim of the current study is to evaluate, in a prospective cross-over, randomized study, the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on patients with chronic neurological deficits and cognitive impairment after anterior skull base meningioma tumor removal.
