Effects of Obesity and Intensity of Exercise on Ghrelin Levels

ObesityInsulin Resistance1 more

This study is investigating the effect of different intensities of exercise on levels of the hormone, ghrelin. In addition, we will be examining the relationship between any exercise induced changes in ghrelin and insulin sensitivity, obesity, and vascular function.

Interest of Hypnosis When Setting up Non-invasive Ventilation in a Conscious Patient With COPD and/or...

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)Obesity With a BMI Greater Than 301 more

Discomfort during respiratory decompensation of a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and/or obesity with a BMI greater than 30, in intensive care and the establishment of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is frequent and a source of failure. this therapy. Pharmacological treatments may be impossible due to the pathology, the risk of it worsening and adverse effects. In this context, hypnosis appears to be a tool that would promote comfort and thus increase tolerance of NIV.

Reducing Maternal Stress to Improve Obesity-related Parenting Practices

ObesityChildhood

Maternal stress is associated with children's risk for obesity controlling for socioeconomic status. The association between maternal stress and child obesity is particularly strong in Latinx families, whose children also have the highest rates of obesity in the United States. A mindful parenting program might reduce Latina mothers' psychological stress and lead to improved parenting practices and ability to create a healthier environment. The primary objective of the proposed research is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a culturally-relevant intervention that integrates mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindful parenting in Latina mothers. The investigators will conduct a randomized clinical trial comparing the Calma, Conversa, y Cría (CCC) intervention to an active control condition in 50 Latina mothers of elementary-school age children. Participant satisfaction rates and qualitative interviews will provide evidence of the program's acceptability. Feasibility will be determined by examining recruitment rates, retention rates, and treatment fidelity. Completion of this project will inform the development of a full-scale efficacy trial.

Energy Turnover and Appetite

Obesity

The aim of the study is to compare the effect of a low versus moderate versus high energy turnover on energy intake, appetite and food reward, in adolescents with obesity. 18 adolescents with obesity will then complete three experimental sessions in a randomized order: low, high and moderate Energy turnover.

TOTAL: A Multisite RCT

ObesityOverweight

Nearly 8 in 10 Veterans meet criteria for overweight/obesity. Three evidence-based treatment options are available within VA (behavioral weight management [MOVE!], obesity medications, and bariatric surgery). However, all treatments are significantly underutilized. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a novel intervention designed to increase obesity treatment initiation and subsequently weight loss within VA. The intervention, Teaching Obesity Treatment Options to Adult Learners (TOTAL), involves an educational video and multiple motivational sessions delivered via telemedicine. If effective, TOTAL could be implemented throughout VA without requiring significant resources and could be integrated into the existing VA behavioral weight management program, MOVE!, which is present at nearly every VA medical center.

Clinical Trial to Analyze the Efficacy of a Supplement Extracted From Persimmon on Overweight /...

SupplementationObesity

Randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial, with two parallel branches depending on the product consumed (experimental product and placebo product) and single-center, to measure the efficacy of a supplement extracted from Persimmon on overweight and obesity grade I in subjects with BMI over 25.

Acute Effects of Endurance Exercise on Breast Milk Composition in Women With Overweight/Obesity...

Breast Milk CollectionOverweight and Obesity

The investigators will determine the acute effect of exercise on breastmilk composition. Participants will come in to the lab on three different days, out of which they will exercise on two of these days and rest in the lab on the third day. The conditions will be randomly allocated to each participant. Breastmilk samples will be obtained in the morning of each test day, as well as immediately after, one hour after and four hours after the exercise/rest condition. Dietary intake will be standardized on the test days.

Effects of Concurrent Training on Physical Fitness and Body Composition in Obese Individuals

Obesity

Ample evidence demonstrates the beneficial role of physical activity combined with a structured dietary plan to counteract obesity. International guidelines as the World Health Organization states that to improve fitness levels at least 150 min a week of physical activity at moderate intensity, combined with resistance training composed of 8-12 repetitions with an intensity of 60-70%1RM for each muscle group, are recommended. In this regard, a minimum dosage of 60-90 min of physical activity composed by aerobic exercises in alternation with resistance training protocols, allow a sequential development of cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength parameters avoiding potential interference effects. Interference may occur when strength and endurance stimuli both target opposite peripheral adaptations (e.g., hypertrophy vs. muscle capillarization) and this phenomenon seems to be particularly clear during adolescence. Nevertheless, the incorporation of different training stimuli within the same training session is called Concurrent Training. This training mode, thanks to the activation of two different metabolic pathways (e.g., aerobic and anaerobic), has a variety, beneficial effects in terms of muscle mass and strength development, body composition profile regulation and neuromotor function improvement. Concurrent Training seems to be effective not only in normal-weight subjects, but also in obese individuals, reporting positive adaptations on physical fitness and health status compared with a single-mode (i.e., aerobic or strength training). Therefore, the aim of this study is to detect the effects of a 10-week-Concurrent Training protocol compared with a single training modality on physical fitness, body composition and circadian rhythms in adult outpatients with obesity.

Urolithin A Supplementation in Middle-aged Adults With Obesity

ObesityVascular Dementia1 more

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the effect of urolithin A, a dietary supplement, on blood flow in middle-aged adults with obesity. The main question it aims to answer is: - Does urolithin A supplementation improve blood flow in large and small blood vessels in middle-aged adults with obesity? Participants will be asked to: Take the dietary supplement daily for 4 weeks Attend two study visits to have their blood vessels checked, answer questionnaires, and give a sample of blood Researchers will compare people who took the dietary supplement with others who took a placebo to see if the blood flow in the blood vessels improved.

Semaglutide and Vascular Regeneration

AtherosclerosisCardiovascular Diseases3 more

SEMA-VR is a prospective, randomized, 6-month long, open-label study of semaglutide. Approximately 100 participants with type 2 diabetes and/or obesity will be randomized (1:1) to receive semaglutide at escalating doses (up to 1.0 mg/week) or usual care without semaglutide for 6 months. The goal of this trial is to understand how semaglutide exerts cardio-protective effects in people with type 2 diabetes and/or obesity. The main question it aims to answer is: • Does semaglutide treatment preserve or increase the number of vessel-repairing cells circulating in the blood? Participants will: Be allocated to receive either semaglutide or usual care for 6 months Provide a blood sample at the baseline visit and another blood sample at the 6-month visit Researchers will compare participants receiving semaglutide to those receiving usual care for any differences in the 6-month change in the number of vessel-repairing cells in the blood.
