OsteoarthritisHip2 moreTanezumab is a monoclonal antibody that binds to and inhibits the actions of nerve growth factor (NGF). The Nerve Growth Factor Inhibitor (NGFI) class may offer an important breakthrough in the treatment of chronic pain and is under clinical investigation for the treatment of pain associated with osteoarthritis or other chronic pain conditions. The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate superior efficacy of tanezumab 5 mg and 2.5 mg administered subcutaneously (SC) every 8 weeks versus placebo at Week 24 in subjects with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip. The 2.5 mg dose was shown to provide efficacy benefits with a favorable safety profile when administered intravenously in previous Phase 3 clinical trials. The 5 mg dose is expected to provide added efficacy benefit over the 2.5 mg dose based on data from previous studies.

Dynamic ROM Via Gait Analysis and 3D Fluoroscopy in THA With Different Head Diameters
Hip OsteoarthritisPain and reduced function are the most common symptoms of coxarthritis. Pain relief and normal range of motion (ROM) restoration are the objectives of a Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) procedure. It is recognized that increased head-neck ratio results in increased ROM due to the fact that prosthetic impingement between neck and acetabular liner occurs with wider arcs of motion. This head-neck ratio has been investigated extensively only in vitro (on cadavers or sawbones) or using mathematical modeling in computer simulations. These studies are limited by the lack of soft tissues and muscle activations in the models. This study will clinically assess the effect of prosthetic head diameter on patient capability of performing movements which require extreme arcs of motion of the hip joint. Therefore, the research questions are: What role do soft tissues play in limiting ROM? Can prosthetic impingement really occur in a well positioned THA? Can a bigger head diameter alone reduce the risk of impingement?

OsteoarthritisHipLower limb osteoarthritis is a major health problem in the westernized countries. The current gold standard treatment is joint replacement. However clinical guidelines recommend physical therapy as first option for these patients. Manual therapy has reported good reports in function, range of motion and pain in patients with hip osteoarthritis. The main aim of this study is to test the effects of a manual therapy protocol based on manual traction mobilization of the hip joint in an end range position and compare them with the effects achieve with the same protocol based on manual traction mobilization of the hip joint in a resting position. The investigators will use the caudal traction mobilization described by Kaltenborn. The study will test the effects of both treatments in passive range of motion, function and pain after three weeks of treatment, three weeks after finalizing the treatment and six weeks after.
Capsulectomy vs Capsulotomy With Repair in Direct Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty
Hip ArthrosisOsteoarthritis1 moreIn this prospective, randomized study, investigators will look at the outcome of total hip arthroplasty through the anterior approach in regard to the surgical treatment of the anterior hip capsule. At this time, there are 2 different techniques: one is excising this capsule and the second one is cutting the capsule and repairing it at the end of the procedure. The investigators set out to determine whether incising or repairing the capsule will benefit the patients in terms of postoperative pain level, range of motion of the hip joint, joint stability, surgical time and blood loss. Both preserving and excising the joint capsule are accepted techniques in performing total hip arthroplasty. The Investigators hypothesize that capsulectomy may allow for reduction in operative time, provide superior surgical exposure, and increased range of motion after surgery. The influence on post operative pain and dislocation rate is unknown.
