Hydrotherapy Intervention in Elderly With Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis is a common condition characterized by pain and functional disability in older people. Prevalence increases with age and is more frequent in older women. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of an 8-weeks hydrotherapy training with elastic bands on pain and functional disability in old people with knee osteoarthritis.

The Effect of Flexible Tape in Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis

People with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee attending The Alfred hospital will be invited to participate in a randomised controlled trial comparing two different types of knee taping. Both groups will also be prescribed an exercise program to assist in management of their knee OA. Hypothesis are as follows: Participants treated with flexible tape with have greater reductions in pain and improvements on timed performance based measures when compared to those treated with a placebo tape. Participants in both groups will have clinically significant improvements in pain and timed performance based measures compared to their baseline scores.

Effect Of Plasma Rich In Growth Factors In Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

HYPOTHESIS: The application of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) will improve the quality of life and functional capacity of patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, providing better functional results than conventional treatment with viscosupplementation. OPERATING ASSUMPTIONS Following the initial administration of three doses of PRGF interspersed every 15 days, applied via intraarticular, patients will present an improvement in functional test (WOMAC and Lequesne scales) of 15% or more after 6 and 12 months compared to the control group with patients treated with hyaluronic acid.

"CuraMed" and "Curamin" in Osteoarthritis

OsteoarthritisKnee

This randomized, placebo-controlled study evaluates the effects of CuraMed ® (BCM-95 ®) and Curamin ® in the treatment of osteoarthritis. One group will receive CuraMed, one group will receive Curamin and one group will receive placebo.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Older Persons With Knee Pain (Knee Pain and tDCS): Randomized...

Knee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this research is to study the effects of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) on clinical pain, mobility disability, and pain sensitivity to gain a better understanding of the factors that cause pain and disability in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). In particular, people from different ethnic and racial groups may experience OA pain differently which is why the focus will be on older Asian Americans and non-Hispanic whites. It is important to find a reason for such difference so that a better treatment can be found for all OA patients. In addition, the research study will examine if there is any ethnic differences in pain and mobility disability. The investigator hypothesize that Asian Americans will report greater pain and mobility disability than non-Hispanic whites, and that active tDCS will result in improvement in pain and disability compared to sham tDCS.

Dry Needling Versus Conventional Physical Therapy in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this research is to compare the effectiveness of conventional physical therapy (manual physical therapy, exercise, range of motion, and stretching) versus conventional physical therapy combined with dry needling in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Physical therapists commonly use conventional physical therapy techniques and dry needling to treat knee OA, and this study is attempting to find out if the addition of dry needling to conventional physical therapy has an equal, greater, or lesser effect than conventional physical therapy alone.

Thigh Pain After Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

OsteoarthritisKnee

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the cause of thigh pain after knee replacement. Different surgical techniques will be used to help determine the cause of thigh pain, and all surgical techniques are accepted and produce good clinical results.

Effect of Interventions on the Progression of Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteo Arthritis of the Knees

There has been intensive search for a substance that can have disease-modifying activity for osteoarthritis. A number of medications have been reported to be of benefit on slowing progression of knee OA. This trial will be the first head to head comparison of these medications. Patients aged between age 40 to 65 will be enrolled. Patients will be assessed clinically using two scoring systems, the WOMAC index for knee arthritis and the SF 36 for overall physical and mental health. The knee X rays will be assessed on Kellgren and Lawrence grading and will also be measured for joint space narrowing at follow up. The response to arthritis medications on slowing down cartilage loss will be measured biochemically with COMP levels.
