Defense Health Agency- Development of a Medical Device Utilizing an EEG-Based Algorithm for the...

Chronic Pain

PainQx, with the support of the Department of Defense (Contract #W81XWH-21-C-0034), is conducting a study to collect electroencephalography (EEG) data from people with chronic pain in order to develop algorithms than will objectively assess the pain a person is experiencing. EEG is a monitoring method that records electrical activity in the brain. If enrolled in the study, subjects will be asked to answer a series of questions regarding their level of chronic pain, level of functionality, symptoms, behavioral health information, and medications, and subsequently have a 15 minute, non-invasive EEG recording taken by placing electrodes along the scalp. Through participation, chronic pain subjects will provide data needed to further develop this technology.

Clonidine is Better Than Zopiclone for Insomnia Treatment in Chronic Pain Patients

Insomnia ChronicPain1 more

A prospective observational crossover study of 160 consenting adult patients who underwent pain management. For insomnia treatment, each patient ingested different prescribed doses of Zopiclone or Clonidine on alternate nights. Each patient used a special validated sleep diary to collect data including pain score, sleep scores, sleep duration, sleep medication dose, and adverse effects. Each patient completed the diary for 3 continuous weeks. Pain was measured using the numeric pain rating scale. Sleep score was measured using the Likert sleep scale. A change in the pain or sleep scores by 2-points was considered significant.

Assessing Opioid Care Practices Using CPV Patient Simulation Modules

PainPain8 more

This study will test the quality of opioid-related physician care decisions using a patient-simulation based measurement and feedback approach that combines multiple-choice care decisions with real-time, personalized scoring and feedback. The cases and feedback have been designed to align with the latest CDC opioid guidelines. The study will also measure the impact of gaming-inspired competition and motivation, including a weekly leaderboard, to improve evidence-based care decisions. The quality of care decisions will be measured in the simulations and in a multiple-choice assessment administered before and after the patient simulations.

Chronic Pain, Inflammation and Infection After Joint Replacement

Infection and Inflammatory ReactionJoint Prosthesis

Revision surgery after total hip or knee arthroplasty is an ongoing issue due to an increasing number of primary surgeries. Patients seek physicians due to pain. The cause is divided between loosening, infection or chronic pain. Some are operated on the suspicion of a chronic infection. However, postoperative microbiological testing does not always correlate with the suspicion and the operation may have been superfluous. The objective is to employ a highly advanced diagnostic algorithm based on state of the art diagnostic techniques in order to improve the basis of preoperative diagnosis. Through this approach treatment can be given according to the causal problem.

Data Collection for Prediction of Postoperative Chronic Pain for a Software

Chronic Postoperative Pain

Postoperative Persistent Pain (PPP) is reported with a high incidence in adults 11.5-47%. This high incidence effects quality of life of patients causes social-economical problems and arises medico-legal issues. This study will be undertaken for producing a database by the evaluation of surgeries in 4 hospitals located in Istanbul. This database will be used in establishing a software by using data mining technology in the prediction of PPP

IMproving Pain Using Peer RE-inforced Self-management Skills

Chronic Pain

The overall purpose of this pilot study is to conduct a formative evaluation of (veteran)peer delivery of a chronic pain self-management program to veterans with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Our specific aims are as follows: Aim 1: Evaluate the feasibility of identifying, recruiting, training, and retaining veteran peers to implement a self-management program for chronic pain. Aim 2: Identify facilitators and barriers to peer-delivery of a chronic pain self-management program. Aim 3: Convene an expert panel to review the results of Aims 1 and 2, help to interpret the results, and plan next steps.

Lifestyle Modification Program for Patients With Chronic Pain Conditions

Chronic Pain

In this observational study the effects of a Lifestyle Modification Program - offered as a semi-residential day care clinic - on pain, disability, quality of life and satisfaction with life will be investigated. Furthermore the influence of mindfulness, acceptance and coping, and acquired changes in lifestyle behaviors on the outcome after the program will be evaluated. Effects will be measured after completion of the program (3 months), and at 6 and 12 months follow up after start of the program, i.e. each outcome measure will be taken 4 times within 12 months.
