Efficacy of Yoga Based Self-Management Program for Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is a major health issue with substantial economic burden. To support chronic pain patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, yoga based self-managed intervention was delivered through tele-health platform. Project was designed as community-based program, creating new social networks for patients, health care providers and academics. Platform to deliver intervention and data collection was AiM COVID mobile app. Our objective was to determine the efficacy of Yoga based self-management intervention for people living with chronic pain pain intensity, disability and health related quality of life.

Prevalence of Pain in the Departments of Surgery and Oncoematology of a Children's Hospital

PainPostoperative1 more

Six years after, the authors will conduct the same analysis to check if there have been any improvements in the management of analgesic therapy after the measures taken according to the results of the previous study conducted in the same departments. During a single day work three committees, administering a questionnaire to patients or parents, will evaluate the adherence to international recommendations (JCI and WHO) in the management of analgesic therapy.

CSF/Serum Biomarkers in Predicting PND/Persistent Pain After Cesarean

Perinatal DepressionChronic Pain

The aim is to investigate if inflammatory biomarkers in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are associated with the development of perinatal depression and/or persistent pain after cesarean delivery. This study will obtain CSF and blood samples in 70 parturients. All parturients will be assessed for perinatal depression and persistent pain, and the presence/absence of these outcomes will be correlated to changes in the inflammatory biomarkers within the samples collected. If present, consistent changes in biomarkers correlating with perinatal depression or persistent pain may be utilised as a predictive tool and facilitate early treatment for these conditions.

Weighted Blankets and Chronic Pain

Chronic PainChronic Pain Syndrome

The purpose of the study is to test whether the use of weighted blankets can change the experience of chronic pain and to examine if social, psychological, or health factors influence the perception of the blanket. Multiple blanket weights will be tested.

Effects of Interdisciplinary Treatment on Sickness Absence in Patients With Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is a globally prevalent condition that causes enormous social costs; largely due to sickness absence. A common intervention for patients with chronic pain problems is interdisciplinary treatment (IDT), which consists of a combination of physical exercise, cognitive behavioural therapy and work training coordinated in an interdisciplinary team. Based on data from Swedish National Registers, this study evaluates the effects of IDT on sickness absence.

Self-Management of Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

The investigators aim to validate if a digital tool for increased self-management of chronic pain can improve the quality of life for patients with chronic pain. The validation is based on the change in pain interference (Quality of life), pain intensity, physical functioning, depression, and anxiety based on self-reported information from baseline to study end.

Registry of Coronavirus Complications - CORRELATION WITH GLYCOMIC PROFILE in COVID-19 Patients

Chronic PainMorbidity2 more

COVID infection has resulted in multi-organ injury and may result in cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and muscular damage. It is associated with significant asthenia and the long-term effects of the infection are still unclear, particularly for the development of pain and delayed functional rehabilitation. Glycomics "is the systematic study of the structure of glycans in a given cell type or organism. Glycans are complex oligosaccharides attached to proteins and lipids that regulate a variety of organic processes, including immunity Thus, glycans may influence different moments of the response to the virus and involved in the clinical severity of the disease, but may also change depending on the severity of symptoms and the organic response to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Glycomic data could provide important insights into interindividual differences at the molecular level that directly interact with SARS-CoV-2 and the development of mid- and long-term side effects. The ability to identify early those susceptible to developing COVID-19 infection and at higher risk for COVID-19 with unfavorable outcomes long after infection would help guide therapeutic strategy and provide important guidance for rational health care organization, which is of outmost importance. Long-term outcome data regarding post-COVID patient functional capacity and glycomics will be compared to assess whether there may be differences in protein glycosylation that may predict patient outcome.

Comparison of Postoperative Inguinal Pain Between the Onstep Technique and the Lichtenstein Technique...

Chronic Pain Post-Procedural

This is a randomized, double blind, controlled study. The aim is to compare postoperative inguinal pain using the Inguinal Pain Questionnaire (IPQ) validated in Spanish and Numerical Pain Scale in postoperative patients with Lichtenstein and Onstep technique at 1 week, 1, 3 and 6 months. The investigators also validated the IPQ in spanish. It was randomized 20 patients for the Lichtenstein repair and 20 patients for the Onstep technique. The study was conducted in the General Surgery Department of the Central Hospital Dr. Ignacio Morones Prieto, considered as a second level of attention and a surgery training center. The validated questionnaire in spanish and the visual pain scale were applied in the office at 1 week and by phone at 1 month, 3 and 6 months after surgery by two evaluators who did not know the surgical technique used.

QTc and Perceived Sleep Follow up Among Chronic Pain Patients With Opiate Medication

Chronic Pain

QTc: Since the reports of three deaths attributed to Torsade de Point (TdP) related to treatment with the long-acting methadone derivative levomethadyl acetate HCl (LAAM), methadone has been scrutinized for any possible association with TdP. Since then, several studies among Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) patients and chronic pain patients were done, reporting diverse results about possible association between methadone dose and QTc prolongation. Most studies however were cross-sectional and generally found insignificant clinical prolongation of QTc. A follow up studies are of importance, and although few studies have started evaluating QTc among MMT patients, none was done among chronic pain patients with no history of drug usage. One study of 8 chronic pain patients experiencing insufficient pain control or intolerable side effects during treatment with oral morphine switched to oral methadone showed insignificant modest increase QTc following 9 month. Perceived Sleep: Chronic pain patients as well as drug addicts are known to suffer from poor sleep. Some studies found possible relation to methadone dose, however, no causal association was found and importantly some also found association with duration of opiate usage before starting methadone when entry to MMT clinic. Thus, patients with no history of opiate addiction are an important interesting group that may help understand relation between methadone usage and sleep quality. However, sleep must be evaluate before opiate administration and a follow up study is needed
