Chronic Pain Following Thermal Burn InjuryThe goal of this study is to develop a safe, effective, and readily available treatment that will prevent chronic pain following Major Thermal Burn Injury (MThBI). Burn survivors are prone to develop chronic pain and there is an urgent unmet need for preventative treatments. The preventative treatments proposed for this study, Omega-3 Fatty Acids (O3FA) and Vitamin D have been selected given effectiveness across a range of painful musculoskeletal disorders and their wide availability and low cost. This study is a 2x2 factorial, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized controlled trial test for the effectiveness of O3FA and Vitamin D to prevent chronic pain development. Burn survivors will be enrolled who have experienced thermal burns that cover less than 30% total body surface area that are severe enough to warrant surgical management, which represents the most common burn injury characteristics. Patients will be enrolled within 72 hours of their burn, and randomized via 1:1:1:1 allocation to receive placebo, O3FA, Vitamin D or both. The investigators will obtain blood samples on enrollment and at 6 weeks to assist in elucidating key mechanisms by which O3FA and Vitamin D reduce chronic pain following MThBI. Chronic pain severity, assessed with a 0-10 numeric rating scale at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year will be entered into a repeated-measures model. Model estimated contrasts will serve as the primary outcome.
Hypnosis as a Potentiation Technique for the Interventional Treatment of Chronic Lumbar Pain
Chronic PainThis pilot study consists in testing the efficacy of hypnosis as an adjuvant treatment for patients suffering from chronic lumbar pain and for whom a facet block is indicated by a doctor in the Centre d'antalgie of CHUV (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois), where this study will take place. 5 to 8 patients will be included in this study. The goals of this study are : Assess the feasibility of such a protocol with more patients Measure the number of patients necessary to obtain a significant result Search for possible side effects of the combination of both treatments Every patient in this pilot study will undergo 4 hypnosis sessions within 2 weeks before the facet block. These sessions will be done with an hypnotherapist formed for this kind of treatment. Three times during this study, each patient will have a discussion with the co-investigator :¨ 1st discussion : just before the first hypnosis session 2nd discussion : after the 4 hypnosis sessions and just before the facet block, approximately 3 to 4 weeks after the 1st discussion 3rd discussion : 2 to 4 weeks after the facet block They will allow to obtain several data : Pain assessment : intensity, localization, variability, characteristics, effects on daily life activities Anxiety and depression assessment Expectations assessment : about both treatments and their combination Efficacy assessment : about both treatments for the patient Questions about the perceptions of the treatments (prejudice, ...) et possible side effects. These data will then be analysed (quantitative and qualitative analysis, depending on the question type) to fulfill the objectives of the study. will include 5 to 8 people suffering from chronic lumbar pain. The procedure consists in two steps : 4 hypnosis sessions as an adjuvant treatment for number 2 a facet block, which is the standard procedure in the Centre d'antalgie in CHUV. There will be no control group, so every patient will participate to the hypnosis sessions and undergo the facet block. All the procedure of the facet block (including contraindications and side effects) are not considered to be part of this study because all patients in this study would have had a facet block if they would not participate in it. The only data that will be collected are questionnaires about several items (pain, anxiety, depression, ...). These questionnaires are filled with the patient at the beginning of the study (day 0), before the facet block (between day 14 and day 21) and 2-4 weeks after it (between day 28 and day 49). There are quantitative and qualitative questions.

Chronic PainPsychiatric DisordersTranscranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an investigational device that has not been approved for the treatment of any medical condition by the FDA but is allowed to be used for research purposes. In clinical trials tDCS has been associated with pain relief by decreasing the intensity and duration of chronic pain. tDCS potentially works by stimulating the brain by delivering an extremely low-level electrical current to areas below the forehead - areas associated with chronic pain. It is anticipated that this current will increase brain activity or the likelihood of brain activity in these areas, affecting individual's ability to regulate pain. The purpose of this study is to compare eligible participants in the Pain Management Program at The Menninger Clinic receiving adjunctive real transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) versus those receiving sham tDCS in the resolution of chronic pain. The primary objectives are: (1) improving pain tolerance and (2) improving subjective pain experience. Secondary objectives are: (1) improving subjective experience of sleep quality and (2) increasing physical activity.

Effects of Manual Therapy on Chronic Pain and Functionality of Breast Cancer Survivors
Breast Cancerthe aim of this study is to verify whether manual therapy associated with kinesiotherapy is more effective than kinesiotherapy alone in the treatment of chronic pain and upper limb dysfunction in women surviving cancer of mama. It is a randomized controlled double blind clinical trial (evaluator and patient), parallel in two groups (Intervention Group and Sham Group). The intervention will last 6 weeks and chronic pain and upper limb functionality will be evaluated. Both groups will undergo a kinesiotherapy program once a week for 6 consecutive weeks. Also, participants in the intervention group will receive, once a week, a manual therapy protocol, while participants in the Sham group will receive traditional massage. Manual therapy associated with kinesiotherapy is expected to yield superior results to the isolated kinesiotherapy in chronic pain and upper limb functionality.
