Identification of EMT Indicators in Healthy and Periodontally Diseased Gingival Samples

Chronic Periodontitis

The current study focuses on the localization and quantitative assessment of growth factors and cytokines related to the EMT process found in the human gingival tissue samples taken from periodontally diseased individuals compared to other samples taken from healthy individuals. Through this investigation the correlation between the severity of the disease and the amount of these factors will be studied aiming to alleviation of the high prevalence of periodontal diseases among the Egyptian population.

Chronic Presence of Epstein Barr Virus in Sulcular and Junctional Epithelial Tissue From Gingiva...

Parodontitis AggressiveParodontitis Chronic

The etiopathogenesis of periodontal disease results from complex interaction between infectious agents, mainly including bacteria, and host cellular and humoral immune responses. However it is thought that bacteria-induced pathogenesis is not sufficient alone to explain all biological and clinical features of the destructive periodontal disease. The main hypothesis is that herpesviruses, such as Epstein-Barr Virus, may participate as well by altering epithelial gingival cell biology and consequently may promote the initiation and progression of periodontitis.

Tooth Loss in Periodontitis Patients

Periodontitis

Tooth loss in periodontitis patients is associated with patient and site factors as well as with treatment provided. Not much is known about long-term tooth loss in periodontitis patients in private practice in the UK. The study plans to follow-up 200 subjects with periodontitis (and currently on maintenance therapy) for 5 years. The effect of treatment provided, site and patient risk factors on tooth loss will be studied.

Quantification of NLRP3 (rs4612666) and CARD8 Gene (rs2043211) in Generalized Chronic Periodontitis...

Periodontal DiseasesCoronary Artery Disease

Quantification of NLRP3 (rs4612666) and CARD8 (rs20432111) will be analysed in the subgingival plaque and blood samples of generalized chronic periodontitis with and without coronary heart disease. The demographic and the periodontal parameters were assessed and correlated with the quantification of NLRP3 (rs4612666) and CARD8 (rs2043211) was analysed with RT-PCR

Assessment of the Outcome of Endodontic Treatment Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography.

Periapical Periodontitis

The aim of the study is to assess the correlation between pre-obturation bacterial detection using fluorescence amplification and outcome of endodontic treatments. Thus, enabling a suitable detection threshold to predict the likelihood of treatment failure. This has the potential to be used a bench side tool in general dental practice to act as a surrogate endpoint for clinicians performing root canal treatment.

Oral Health, Microbial Burden and COVID-19

Covid19Periodontitis

An observational study of patients with COVID-19 confirmed cases (with various degrees of severity) and controls. Oral and nasal swabs will be taken from 150 patients (50 with mild form and 50 with severe form of COVID-19 with or without mechanical ventilation, 50 healthy controls).
