PeriodontitisLaserthis study evaluate the effect of LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) as an Adjunct Treatment in Management of Patients With Chronic Periodontitis and assay the effect of LANAP on periodontal indexes like BOP, CAL, probing depth
Efficacy of Amoxicillin-metronidazole Compared to Clindamycin in Patients With Periodontitis and...
PeriodontitisPeriodontal Pocket1 morePeriodontitis is an inflammation of the supporting structures of the teeth, usually caused by specific or groups of microorganisms that results in the progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. the objective of periodontitis treatment is to reduce the number of periodontal pathogens. However, there is not an agreement in the use of systemic antibiotics in patients with diabetes. The purpose of the present study was to determine the efficacy of amoxicillin/metronidazole compared to clindamycin during non-surgical treatment of periodontitis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Patients and methods In this double-blind, randomized clinical trial, a total of 42 patients with chronic periodontitis and type 2 diabetes were included in a 24-months follow-up. Patients were randomly assigned to treatment with either amoxicillin/metronidazole or clindamycin every for 7 days. Clinical determinations (depth of probing, bleeding at the probe and plaque index) were performed to determine the extent and severity of periodontitis before and after the pharmacological treatment. The intra-group differences were calculated with Wilcoxon rank test. The inter-group differences were calculated with Mann-Whitney test. Sex, bacterial plaque, and bleed to the sounding were summarized using proportions and analyzed with the chi-square method. In all analyses, a P-value of <0.05 (two tailed) was considered statistically significant
Effect of Omega 3 as an Immunomodulator Adjunct to Periodontal Debridement
PeriodontitisThis study evaluates the effect of the systemic administration of Omega 3 as a therapy associated with non-surgical periodontal treatment, in the clinical and microbiological variables of patients with Moderate Periodontitis with moderate rate of progression (Stage II grade B) and Severe Periodontitis with potential for additional tooth loss and moderate rate of progression (Stage III grade B). A double-blind, randomized, controlled trial was conducted with 18 voluntary patients with a history of moderate to severe chronic periodontitis, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and signed an informed consent. The intervention group received Scaling and Root Planning (SRP) plus Omega 3, and the control group received SRP plus placebo. Probing depth (PD), Clinical Attachment Level (CAL), Biofilm Index (BI) and Bleeding on Probing (BOP) were evaluated as clinical variables while Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), Tannerella forsythia (Tf), Treponema denticola (Td), Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn) were the microbiological variables detected by conventional Polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
Impact of Periodontal Bacteria at Baseline on the Effectiveness of Periodontal Therapy
PeriodontitisIn light of the controversy that are already approved but that however still exists regarding the efficacy and influence of the protocols for the management of Periodontitis, the aim of this study was to evaluate, at 6 months follow-up, the post-treatment clinical parameters and immunological and gingival microbial profiles in patients with periodontitis, treated by either SRP in addition to full mouth scaling or quadrant scaling
Influence of Intra-Canal Cryotherapy on Post-Endodontic Pain and Interleukin-6 Expression Using...
Symptomatic Periapical Periodontitisthe study was to evaluate the effect of intra-canal cryotherapy on post-endodontic pain and interleukin-6 expression in teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis using different irrigation protocols.
Minimally Invasive Non Surgical Therapy Versus Conventional Scaling and Root Planing for Treatment...
Periodontal DiseasesMinimally invasive non-surgical therapy (MINST) is a new approach towards regeneration of deep periodontal defects. Important part of MINST procedure, besides usage of magnification loupes and piezo-electric devices seems to be the usage of special mini-curettes, originally mini-five and after mini-five of Hu-Friedy. So far only descriptive data about the clinical effects of such procedure are available and comparative studies that would include other treatment alternatives are lacking. Therefore, the aim of our study is, on split-mouth model, to compare the number of diseased sites (defined by probing depth ˃ 4 mm and bleeding on probing) after conventional non-surgical therapy and MINST with the usage of special mini-curettes. In addition, new 3D parameters obtained from 3D optical scanning will be developed for evaluation of volume changes of soft tissues.
Clinical Evaluation of Laser Therapy Used as an Adjunct to Non-Surgical Treatment of Gum Disease...
Periodontitis Chronic Generalized ModeratePeriodontitis Chronic Generalized SevereThe use of lasers to treat various problems in dentistry is growing as it has in medicine. One application is the use of lasers to treat periodontal disease. It has been suggested that the laser may reduce the need for surgical treatment by reducing pockets. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of laser treatment for periodontal disease. Laser therapy will be used in addition to traditional non-surgical scaling and root planing (deep cleaning). The information obtained from this study will provide an objective assessment of adjunctive laser therapy compared to conventional periodontal therapy and will attempt to show the benefits, if any, lasers can provide in the treatment of chronic periodontal disease.
GCF HIF-1α, VEGF and TNF-α Levels in G-AgP Patients Before and After Periodontal Treatment.
Aggressive PeriodontitisGeneralized1 moreHypoxia-inducible angiogenic pathway involving hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and tumour necrosis factor- alpha (TNF-α) may regulate the several biological processes related to inflammation. Generalized aggressive periodontitis (G-AgP) is a rare but highly destructive form of inflammatory periodontal disease. The present study aimed to assess the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment on gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) HIF-1α, VEGF and TNF-α levels in G-AgP patients. 20 G-AgP and 20 periodontally healthy subjects were enrolled. At baseline, GCF samples were collected and whole mouth clinical periodontal parameters were recorded. G-AgP patients received non-surgical periodontal treatment. Clinical parameters and GCF cytokines were re-measured at 1 and 3 months after treatment. GCF HIF-1α, VEGF and TNF-α levels were analyzed by ELISA. Data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests.
Periodontal Treatment in Non Smokers, Former Smokers and Smokers
PeriodontitisThe present study was designed as a prospective controlled study focusing on the effect of oral hygiene instructions and periodontal nonsurgical treatment( PNST) on clinical outcomes and patients related outcomes (PROMs) in smokers versus former smokers versus non smoker patients.
Use of the Ozone in Periodontal Treatment
Chronic PeriodontitisThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinicaland laboratory (as oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory mediators) effects of the use of gaseous ozone in periodontal treatment in addition to scaling and root planning. The study population consisted of 40 patients with CP (chronic periodontitis). It was performed with two groups; The Test Group, and the Control Group. SRP plus gaseous ozone [1 W (100 mJ, 10 Hz)] was applied to the Test Group. The Control Group, on the other hand, had only SRP.The clinical periodontal parameters were performed and saliva samples were taken before SRP (baseline) and 1 month after treatment. The periodontal examination involved assessing the plaque index, gingival index , probing depth, and clinical attachment level. The total antioxidant status, total oxidant status, nitric oxide, 8-hidroxi-deoksiguanosine, myeloperoxidase, glutathione, malondialdehyde and transforming growth factor-beta levels were determined in the saliva samples.
