Connection Between Periodontitis and Exudative Age-related Macular Degeneration

Periodontitis

Aqueous flare is increased in different kind of inflammations of eye. This is caused by disruption of blood-aqueous-barrier. The investigators assume that low grade systemic inflammation, such as periodontitis, increase aqueous flare and possibly activates exudative age-related macular degeneration.

Antibiotic and Probiotic Therapies in the Adjuvant Treatment of the Chronic Periodontitis.

Chronic Periodontitis Complex

Currently, with the increase of bacterial resistance to antibiotics associated with its side effects, it is necessary to find other adjuncts to combat the disease that are an alternative to the use of antibiotics. The use of probiotics has been proposed in the literature as an adjunct therapy for the treatment of periodontal diseases, however, few controlled and randomized clinical studies have been performed. The objective of this double-blind randomized controlled trial will be to evaluate the response of clinical and microbiological periodontal parameters to the comparison of two different adjuvant therapies (antibiotic and probiotic) for the treatment of stages II and III grade B periodontitis.

Doxycycline in the Treatment of Aggressive Periodontitis

Aggressive Periodontitis

The aim of the study was to compare the clinical effects of systemic use of doxycycline to amoxicillin plus metronidazole as adjunctive treatment in nonsurgical debridement of aggressive periodontitis (AgP). Twenty four patients with aggressive periodontitis were enrolled in this clinical study. They all received oral hygiene instruction and full-mouth nonsurgical debridement using manual instruments. The test group received as adjunctive antibiotic treatment 200 mg of doxycycline the first day followed by 100 mg per day during 14 days. The control group received 500 of amoxicillin and 250 of metronidazole, three times a day for 7 days.

IL-34 Levels in Various Types of Periodontitis

Chronic PeriodontitisAggressive Periodontitis

The objective of this study is to 1) identification of the impact of IL-34 on the pathogenesis of periodontal disease and determine whether any relationship among the existing levels of Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) Interleukin 34( IL-34 )and GCF Receptor activator of nuclear factor -kB ligand (RANKL), osteoprotegerin (OPG) and RANKL/OPG ratio, as a mediator of bone resorption 2) analysis of the impact of non-surgical periodontal treatment on GCF IL-34 levels in patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and aggressive periodontitis (AgP) and 3) to correlate between biochemical markers and clinical recordings

Adjunct Photodynamic Therapy in Chronic Periodontitis Among Cigarette-smokers.

Chronic PeriodontitisSmoking

This study evaluates the efficacy of scaling and root planing with and without adjunct antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in the treatment of chronic periodontitis (CP) among cigarette-smokers and never-smokers.

Periodontal Therapy in Thalassemia Major Patients

Thalassemia MajorChronic Periodontitis

The study aims to evaluate the effect of local non surgical periodontal therapy on the systemic pro-inflammatory markers in the β-thalassemia (TM-β) patients with chronic periodontitis and systemically healthy demographically matched controls with chronic periodontitis. Both groups will receive non surgical periodontal therapy.

Effect of Sodium Hypochlorite Concentration on Success of Non-surgical Root Canal Treatment

Apical Periodontitis

.There is no general agreement regarding the optimal concentration of sodium hypochlorite to be used in endodontic treatment. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effect of sodium hypochlorite concentration on the success of primary root canal treatment. The study population comprised of patients requiring primary root canal treatment following the diagnosis of pulpal necrosis with chronic apical periodontitis in mature mandibular first and second molars.Patients were randomly allocated in either High concentration or Low concentration group.

Cryotherapy on Inflammatory Profile and Postoperative Pain Levels in Endodontic Infections

Apical PeriodontitisPostoperative Pain1 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of cryotherapy applications on the inflammatory cytokine and collagenase matrix metalloproteinase levels during root canal treatment and postoperative pain intensity and incidence. Mandibular premolar teeth of 60 male patients within the 20-30 years old range, diagnosed with asymptomatic apical periodontitis will be included to the study for this purpose. The experimental protocols consist clinical and laboratory phases. In clinical phase, procedures of cryotherapy and control groups will be applied in 2-visit-root canal treatment. The samples, which were collected during root canal treatment, will be subjected to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) analysis in laboratory. Levels of interleukin and inflammatory destructive enzymes will be determined in collected samples. During the analysis of visual analogue scale scores, the correlation between the changes of the cytokine and proteolytic enzyme levels and presence and intensity of pain will be evaluated.
