Interdental Plaque Reduction and Periodontitis

Periodontitis

To determine the efficacy of four different oral hygiene protocols involving adjunctive interdental cleaning devices in periodontal patients in terms of plaque and gingival inflammatory scores.

Measurement of Oncostatin M, Leukemia Inhibitory Factor and Interleukin-11 Levels of Patients With...

Chronic PeriodontitisGeneralized1 more

This study aims to determine Oncostatin M (OSM), Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), and Interleukin-11 (IL-11) levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), saliva, and serum in periodontally healthy individuals and those with gingivitis and chronic periodontitis before and after periodontal treatment and to evaluate the relationship between these cytokine levels and clinical periodontal parameters.

Assesment of Gingival Crevicular Fluid and Serum ErbB4/Neuregulin-4 Levels in Periodontal Disease...

Periodontitis

This study aimed to investigate gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and serum ErbB4 and Nrg4 levels in periodontal health and disease. A total of 80 individuals, 20 patients with stage II grade B periodontitis, 20 patients with stage III grade B periodontitis, 20 with gingivitis and 20 periodontally healthy individuals were included. Whole-mouth and site-specific clinical periodontal parameters including probing depth, clinical attachment level, bleeding on probing, gingival index, plaque index and papillar bleeding index were recorded. GCF and serum ErbB4 and Nrg4 levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Statistical analysis was performed by using non-parametric tests.

Role of TLR2 and TLR4 in Stage 2 Periodontitis Patients

Periodontal Inflammation

In Health, mucosal inflammation is prevented by TLR (Toll like receptors) that interact with Specific MAMP (microbe associated molecular pattern). Currently about 13TLRs have been identified. Among them, TLR2 and 4 recognize most organisms . Periodontal disease is mixed infection resulting due to dysbiosis . When aggravated by systemic disease the role of TLRs is detrimental for the overall state of periodontal apparatus. Type 2 diabetes is one of the systemic disease which is seen a risk factor if uncontrolled can exaggerate the titer of TLR2 and TLR4 biomarkers . Various studies have been evaluated to determine the role of TLRs in autoimmune and periodontal conditions. The purpose of this study is to determine if both TLR2 and TLR4 play equal roles in periodontal disease and in cases where periodontal disease is complicated by the presence of systemic disease. Individual role of TLR2 and TLR4 in active disease will help determine treatment strategies and will also be able to predict potential biomarker in disease.

is the Sclerostin Marker of Chronic Periodontitis

Periodontitis

Reviewed literature suggests that sclerostin will inhibit the bone formation and ultimately leads to chronic periodontitis. Estimation of Sclerostin levels in the serum of periodontitis patients before and after intervention could explore the effectiveness of therapy and also give a more detailed insight into its diagnostic and prognostic potential as a biomarker of periodontal disease.

Intervention Study of Oral Health Education Programs Directed to Adolescents

GingivitisPeriodontal Infection

This study evaluates behavioral interventions to increase adolescent's motivation for self performed periodontal infection control, by means of adequate oral hygiene. Study subjects will be allocated to test and control group where the test will be subjected to an individually tailored oral health education program, based on cognitive- behavioral theory and principles, and the control to standard educational intervention.

Alcohol-free Essential Oils Containing Mouthrinse Efficacy on 3-day Supragingival Plaque Regrowth...

GingivitisPeriodontitis

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the antiplaque effects of an alcohol-free essential-oil containing mouthrinse - Listerine Zero (LZ) and an alcohol-based essential oils (EO+) mouthwash compared to a positive control of 0.20% chlorhexidine (CHX) mouthwash, and a negative control of a placebo solution (saline), using an in vivo plaque regrowth model of 3 days.

Interaction Between Hypertension and Periodontitis

HypertensionPeriodontitis

Objective:The possible association between hypertension and periodontitis and the effect of hypertension on periodontal treatment were investigated by evaluating salivary and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) interleukin (IL)-6 and C reactive protein (CRP) levels. Methods:Forty two healthy individuals without any previously diagnosed systemic disease [10 periodontally healthy (control) and 10 periodontitis (CP)] and subjects with hypertension [13 periodontally healthy (HP) and 9 with periodontitis (CP + HP)] participated in the study. GCF and saliva samples were obtained at baseline and four weeks after Phase I periodontal treatment. Biochemical parameters were analyzed using ELISA. Results:Before the periodontal treatment, significantly higher GCF IL-6 and CRP levels were detected in CP+HP and CP groups compared to HP and control groups (p<0.01). Salivary CRP level in CP+HP group was found to be higher than the control group (p<0.05). Statistically significant gingival and plaque index measurements (p<0.01) might suggest a possible effect of hypertension on periodontal status. Periodontal treatment significantly improved the clinical indices, however biochemical parameters did not change after the treatment. Conclusion:the association of hypertension with periodontitis through local salivary and GCF mediators might be possible in disease process.

A Clinical Trial to Study the Effects of Two Home Made Mouthwashes in Patients With Gum Diseases...

GingivitisPeriodontitis

Periodontal Disease is a ubiquitous in nature affecting about 80% population of India. The Periodontal Disease is a multifactorial but the dental plaque is considered as main etiological agent. The dental plaque, a adhesive bacterial coating accumulate around and in between teeth, if not removed by effective daily brushing and flossing, plaque can cause Gum infection and tooth loss. Though, many scientific periodontal procedures are available to get the treatment but because of lack of man power and poor socioeconomic condition it is not possible for every group of population in our India.

Methodological Evaluation of Gingival Crevicular Fluid Volume and Elastase Level

Chronic Periodontitis

The mechanisms underlying the formation and composition of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and its flow into and from periodontal pockets are not understood very well. The aim of this study was to evaluate the length of sampling time and sequential sampling of GCF neutrophil elastase (NE) enzyme activity by using intracrevicular and orifice methods.
