Electrical Stimulation to Accelerate Wound Healing
DiabetesDiabetic Foot Ulcer2 moreA clinical study at the Baylor College of Medicine, Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, is being proposed to test the efficacy of a novel electrical stimulation platform named the Tennant Biomodulator designed by AVAZZIA to accelerate wound healing, relieve pain and improve mobility in patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
Peak Plantar Pressures While Wearing a Carbon Fiber Off Loading Orthoses
Diabetes MellitusPeripheral Neuropathy1 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine the ability of carbon fiber off loading orthoses to reduce plantar pressure while providing an augmented plantarflexor power to improve walking and function. Results of this study could lead to increased use of carbon fiber off loading orthoses for patients with diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, and foot wounds as a way augmenting wound healing and preventing future recurrences of wounds.
Chemotherapy Induced Painful Peripheral Neuropathy Ethosuximide (The CIN-E Study)
CancerPeripheral NeuropathyThis study is a drug trial of ethosuximide as a painkiller if you develop pain as a side effect of chemotherapy. Ethosuximide will be compared against placebo (an inactive substance) to test whether any response is a true effect of the drug, and not a 'placebo effect'.
Effect of Physical Therapy in Improving the Health of Patients With Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy...
Diabetic NeuropathiesPeripheral Nervous System DiseasesPeople with diabetes can have nerve damage in their extremities (peripheral neuropathy), and this can lead them to being less able to maintain their balance when they are standing, walking or performing complex movement tasks in their day-to-day life. This results in them being more prone to falls, and consequent injuries. The purpose of this study is to determine whether providing strength and balance retraining (in the form of specific physical exercises or activities) can help people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy regain their ability to maintain their balance, increase their confidence in performing balance-based activities and improve their quality of life.
Scrambler Therapy in the Treatment of Chronic Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy
NeuropathyThe purpose of this study is to see if Scrambler Therapy with the Calmare MC5-A machine will relieve chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Scrambler Therapy is a method of pain relief given with common electrocardiography (ECG) skin electrodes. The electrodes are placed on the body in pairs, and the Scrambler Therapy machine directs electrical signals across the field to simulate non-pain information. Based on other studies, we think that we relieve pain with the Scrambler therapy device, but it has not been tested in a setting such as this one. This means that some of the pain relief could be due to placebo effect, or the CIPN pain going away on its own. In this study we want to compare the Scrambler Therapy with the sham therapy (the therapy that does not use the electrical signals). We hope that this study will help us determine if the Scrambler device really helps patients with CIPN. Cancer patients with chronic, chemotherapy-related pain of 4 or more (on a 0-10 scale) for at least 3 months may be eligible to join this study.
Effects of Light Emitting Diode Irradiation on the Conduction Parameters of the Superficial Radial...
Peripheral NeuropathyThe introduction of light emitting diode (LED) devices as a novel treatment for pain relief in place of low-level laser warrants fundamental research on the effect of LED devices on one of the potential explanatory mechanisms: peripheral neurophysiology in vivo. A randomized controlled study will be conducted by measuring nerve conduction on the superficial radial nerve of healthy subjects (n=64). One baseline measurement and five post-irradiation recordings (2-min interval each) will be performed of the nerve conduction velocity (NCV) and peak latency (PL) and peak amplitude (PA). The experimental group (=32) will receive an irradiation of 2 J/cm2 with an infrared LED device (Dynatronics Solaris Model 705), while the placebo group will be treated by sham irradiation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of LED light on the conduction velocity and amplitude of the superficial radial nerve.
Investigating Mechanisms Underlying Spinal Cord Stimulation Efficacy Using Virtual Reality and Full...
Neuropathy;PeripheralThe study hypothesis is that spinal cord stimulation (SCS) combined with virtual leg illumination (provided through a wearable headset (OculusRift, OculusVR, Irvine, CA) and a custom-designed virtual reality leg scenario) will lead to controlled analgesia induction, boosting analgesic effects obtained with standard SCS treatments and will further be associated with changes in the perception of the affected body part.
Acupuncture in Reducing Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in Participants With Stage I-III...
Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage IA Breast Cancer AJCC v826 moreThe goal of this study is to obtain preliminary evidence of the effect of 8 acupuncture treatments over 10 weeks in breast and GI cancer patients who are currently receiving or recently completed active neurotoxic chemotherapy and have clinically documented grade 1 or 2 neuropathy.
Yoga for Symptoms of Nerve Damage Caused by Chemotherapy
Breast CancerPeripheral Neuropathy1 moreSome types of chemotherapy used to treat breast cancer can cause damage to nerves with symptoms like tingling, numbness, muscle weakness, and pain in the hands and feet that can last and can affect functioning. The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of yoga on reducing symptoms caused by such nerve damage.
A Study of Sativex® for Relief of Peripheral Neuropathic Pain Associated With Allodynia.
PainPeripheral NeuropathyThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Sativex® compared with placebo in relieving peripheral neuropathic pain associated with allodynia.
