Cartomerge Versus NavX Fusion in Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial Fibrillation

Comparison of Two Strategies for Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation - a comparison of ablation guided by Cartomerge and NavX Fusion. 3D mapping systems are widely used in catheter ablation of AF. Integration of a previously acquired image of the left atrium into the electroanatomical (EA) map offers several potential advantages, including visualisation of the complex anatomy of the left atrium, reduction of fluoroscopy time and improved results . The two most widely used systems are Cartomerge (Biosense Webster, etc) and NavX Fusion (SJM, etc). Although both systems have been independently validated, their clinical utility has not previously been directly compared in a randomised trial

Risk Profile for Patients With Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial Fibrillation

The objective of this study is to assess the risk profile in patients with atrial fibrillation, which represents the degree of changes in the atrial tissue and which can help predict in which patients rhythm control will be successful. This risk profile will consist of a combination of underlying (heart) disease and risk factors, measurements obtained from echocardiograms, and circulating biomarkers. Ultimately this risk profile can be used to guide type of rhythm control therapy in individual patients with atrial fibrillation.

This proposal puts forward a research plan to initiate a genetic databank, henceforth referred to as The Genebank at Scripps Clinic Registry. This database will usher in genomic research at Scripps as we strive to stay at the forefront of cardiovascular research in the new century. Human subject donation allows for the creation of the proposed genebank.

Long-Standing Persistant Atrial Fibrillation-Pulmonary Vein Isolation With or Without Ablation

Atrial FibrillationTachycardia

The chronic success rate, defined as freedom from any atrial tachyarrhythmias will increase from 35% to 60% by ablation of complex fragmented atrial electrograms potentials in addition to pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) as compared to PVI alone in patients with long-standing persistent AF.

Efficacy and Safety Study on Agilis NxT Introducer in AF Patients

Atrial Fibrillation

To prove if the success rate of curative treatment of atrial fibrillation in left atrial circumferential pulmonary vein ablation is higher by using a steerable transseptal introducer giving access to the left atrium then by using a conventionally introducer with fixed curve.

Use of Fish Oils to Reduce Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation Following DC Cardioversion

Atrial Fibrillation

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether fish oil supplements may be beneficial in preventing the recurrence of atrial fibrillation after cardioversion. Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition which can sometimes be successfully treated by a cardioversion. Cardioversion involves resetting the heart back to normal with the use of electric current. There is a tendency for the atrial fibrillation to recur , days weeks or even months after the cardioversion. Fish oil supplements may be of benefit to patients with heart problems Recent evidence suggests that fish oils may be beneficial to patients with rhythm disturbances.

Atrial FibrillationAtrial Flutter

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether fish oils may be of benefit to patients with certain heart rhythm disturbances called atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter are two heart conditions that can be successfully treated in the hospital by an ablation (in the case of atrial flutter) or a cardioversion (in the case of atrial fibrillation). Ablation involves the application of high frequency energy waves to a particular spot in the heart. Cardioversion involves resetting the heart back to a normal rhythm with the use of an electric current. Fish oil supplements may be of benefit to patients with heart problems. Recent evidence suggests that fish oils may benefit those with rhythm disturbances.

GISSI-AF - Use of Valsartan an Angiotensin II AT1-Receptor Blocker in the Prevention of Atrial Fibrillation...

Atrial Fibrillation

Study purpose The purpose of the study is to show that the addition of valsartan on top of established therapies can reduce the recurrence of atrial fibrillation in patients with a history of recent atrial fibrillation associated with cardiovascular diseases/comorbidities. Primary objective To demonstrate that, in patients with history of recent atrial fibrillation treated with the best recommended therapies, the addition of valsartan 320 mg is superior to placebo in reducing atrial fibrillation recurrence. Study design The GISSI-AF is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study. Patients with a history of atrial fibrillation will be centrally randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either valsartan or placebo. GISSI-AF will be a pragmatic trial, with broad selection criteria to mimic real clinical practice as much as possible. Since no special examinations or procedures are required for the trial, the economic impact on the National Health Service will be minimized and use of resources likely to be optimized. The enrollment period will last 12 months. The patients will be followed up for 12 months from study entry All prescribed treatments for AF or for the underlying cardiovascular diseases, including ACE-inhibitors, amiodarone and betablockers, will be allowed: patients should be on a stable treatment for at least one month the current guideline for hypertension treatment should be applied patients should not be started on ARBs during the study
