RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining chemotherapy with bone marrow transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy consisting of busulfan and cyclophosphamide followed by bone marrow transplantation in treating patients who have acute or chronic leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome.

Combining chemotherapy with peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more cancer cells. Sometimes the transplanted cells are rejected by the body's normal tissues. Antithymocyte globulin may prevent this from happening. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy plus biological therapy followed by peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have hematologic cancer.

The purpose of this study is to determine if siltuximab has an effect on the heart function measured by ECG recordings and more specifically to determine if siltuximab has an effect on the QT interval in patients with Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS), Smoldering Multiple Myeloma (SMM) or Indolent Multiple Myeloma (IMM). The study will also look to see if siltuximab may be useful in treating patients with MGUS, SMM or IMM.

RATIONALE: Giving low doses of chemotherapy before a donor stem cell transplant helps stop the growth of cancer cells. It may also stop the patient's immune system from rejecting the donor's stem cells. The donated stem cells may replace the patient's immune cells and help destroy any remaining cancer cells (graft-versus-tumor effect). Sometimes the transplanted cells from a donor can also make an immune response against the body's normal cells. Giving antithymocyte globulin before the transplant and tacrolimus and methotrexate after the transplant may stop this from happening. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving antithymocyte globulin together with cyclophosphamide, busulfan, and fludarabine works in treating patients with hematological cancer or kidney cancer undergoing donor stem cell transplant.
