COVID-19Respiratory Disease

On Dec 31, 2019, a number of viral pneumonia cases were reported in China. The virus causing pneumonia was then identified as a new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Since this time, the infection called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread around the world, causing huge stress for health care systems. To diagnose this infection, throat and nose swabs are taken. Unfortunately, the results often take more than 24 hrs to return from a laboratory. Speeding diagnosis up would be of great help. This study aims to look at the breath to find signs that might allow clinicians to diagnose the coronavirus infection at the bedside, without needing to send samples to the laboratory. To do this, the team will be using a machine called a BreathSpec which has been adapted to fit in the hospital for this purpose.

COVID-19 in Patients With Pre-existing Cirrhosis (COVID-Cirrhosis-CHESS2002): A Multicentre Observational...

COVID-19Liver Cirrhosis

COVID-19 pandemic with SARS-CoV-2 infection has become a global challenge. Though most cases of COVID-19 are mild, the disease can also be fatal. Patients with liver cirrhosis are more susceptible to damage from SARS-CoV-2 infection considering their immunocompromised status. The spectrum of disease and factors that influence the disease course in COVID-19 cases with liver cirrhosis are incompletely defined. This muilticentre observational study (COVID-Cirrhosis-CHESS2002) aims to study the clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with specific outcomes in COVID-19 patients with pre-existing liver cirrhosis.

Antibody Response in Hemodialysis and Non-dialysis Patients Diagnosed With COVID-19.

DialysisCovid19

This is prospective cohort study aimed to compare antibody response against SARS-CoV-2 in dialysis patients and non-dialysis-dependent volunteers. The research hypothesis is that dynamic of IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 will differ in two groups. To determine whether there is a statistically significant interaction between factors "group" and "time" on the titer of IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, a two-way repeated measures ANOVA will be used.

Chronic Pain in COVID-19 Patients Discharged From Intensive Care Unit

COVID-19 PandemicICU4 more

More than six million French were affected by SARS-COV2 epidemic. About 20% of infected peoples were hospitalized, and about 5% were admitted to the intensive care units (ICU) for severe SARS-COV2 acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) management. A spectrum of neuropsychiatric sequelae, specific for the ICU exposure, was already described, including post-intensive care syndrome and persistent pain. A growing body of evidence suggests the impact of SARS-COV2 exposure on the occurrence of neurological disorders and chronic pain syndrome development in COVID-19 patients. Taking together, one can expect a large number of patients discharged from ICU after severe COVID-19 with high prevalence of persistent pain and psychological disorders. To date, no study has evaluated neither the incidence of persistant pains in ICU COVID-19 survivors, nor pain phenotypes. The knowledge of such data is crucial in order to anticipate the management of such patients by specialized pain team, and to quantify the possible incurred burden of care. Our study aims to evaluate the incidence of pain, pain localization and severity, associated pain-related psychological disorders, and to perform quantitative sensory testing in severe COVID-19 patients, admitted to the ICU for more than 48 hours and successfully discharged home during the first French pandemic wave.

Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on a Health Care System: Case Study of the CirculatORy System in LiThuania...

Cardiovascular Diseases

Coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) affected the health care systems all around the world. The collateral damage of the pandemic on the cardiovascular (CV) care and CV mortality has been noticed and reported early. In Lithuania, first quarantine measurements were introduced on 16th March and lifted on 16th June of 2020, limiting contact appointments to urgent care only. This led to a substantial proportion of routine cardiovascular appointments, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures being cancelled and greatly limited the availability of cardiovascular care. The prognostic impact of this has not been appropriately analysed. Also, comprehensive analyses of the changes in national CV services, including outpatient care and hospitalisations and CV mortality, during different periods of the pandemic (during first and second waves and in between) are scarce. The objectives of this population-based study were: (1) to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on CV care (2) to compare rates of outpatient care visits and hospitalisations of cardiovascular patients in different periods of 2019 and 2020 (3) to compare the rates of CV mortality in Lithuania in different periods of 2019 and 2020 (4) to investigate sex and age differences in CV care and CV mortality

Global Impact of the COVID 19 Pandemic on Stroke Care, Cerebral Venous Thrombosis, and Subarachnoid...

Stroke

A 1-year analysis of global selected stroke metric data will be conducted comparing the results during the Covid-19 pandemic to the pre-pandemic period. In most countries, this will correspond to March 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021. In some countries, the pandemic period would be adjusted for onset of case surge (i.e. China pandemic start date would begin earlier, i.e. January 2020). The specific metrics that will be analyzed include: ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attacks (TIA) hospitalizations intracranial hemorrhage hospitalizations cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) hospitalizations (with or without thrombocytopenia) CVT in-hospital mortality 4) aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage hospitalizations 5) mechanical thrombectomy 6) intravenous thrombolysis 7) ruptured aneurysm endovascular coiling 8) ruptured aneurysm clipping. 9) aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage admissions 10) SAH in-hospital mortality 11) SAH presentation by Hunt Hess Grade

Mucormycosis in COVID-19

Covid19Mucormycosis2 more

The purpose is to allow phsyician reporters to contribute to MUNCO registry. Mucormycosis in COVID-19 is a rapidly escalating medical emergency reported in high numbers in India during the ongoing coronavirus surge. There is very little known about the risk factors, patterns and complications of mucormycosis as it occurs either during the infection or treatment phase of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In light of this emerging epidemic within a pandemic, it is of time sensitive importance to obtain a better understanding of the risk factors and outcomes of this fatal complication
