Effects of Dry Needling When Applied to the Infraspinatus Muscle in People With Chronic Shoulder...

Trigger Point PainMyofascial1 more

Up to 77% of patients with chronic shoulder pain have a trigger point (TrP) in the infraspinatus muscle. These TrPs can lead to pain, limitation of activities and reduced quality of life. Dry needling (DN) is gaining popularity as a treatment for TrPs in physiotherapy. However, its clinical effects remain poorly understood mechanistically and its neurophysiological effects little studied. The primary objective of this study is to determine the feasibility of a larger scale study. The secondary objective of this study is to to explore the immediate neurophysiological, biomechanical and clinical effects of DN and sham needling when applied to TrP of the infraspinatus muscle in people with chronic non-traumatic shoulder pain.

The Effectiveness Of Ischemic Compression And IASTM In Trigger Point Treatment In Patients With...

Rotator Cuff TearsShoulder Pain1 more

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of ischemic compression and IASTM techniques on pain, EHA, functionality, anxiety and depression in patients with the diagnosis of RM tear and presence of ATN. In addition, ischemic compression and EDYDM methods were aimed to compare and to reveal which application would be more useful.

Pain Neuroscience Education Following Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair

Rotator Cuff InjuriesTear2 more

Pain neuroscience education (PNE) aims to explain to patients the biological and physiological processes involved in a pain experience and, more importantly, defocus the issues associated with the anatomical structures. It has been demonstrated for musculoskeletal pain, PNE provides compelling evidence in reducing pain, disability, pain catastrophization, and limited physical movement. Rotator cuff tears (RCT) often lead to pain aggrevation, deterioration of patients' functioning and considerable economic burden for health care resources requiring consultations, physiotherapy, radiological examinations and surgery. Despite costly arthroscopic surgeries and long-term physiotherapy treatments, satisfactory results are scarce. The lack of satisfactory results at the end of all this effort suggests that some practices should be revised. Although PNE is likely to have beneficial effects on shoulder pathomechanics, to our knowledge, there is no randomized controlled research in the relevant literature investigating the effects of PNE in patients with an RCT. The present study aims to examine the effectiveness of PNE on clinical outcomes in a sample of patients with RCT.

Effectiveness of Dry Needling and Physical Therapy Versus Physical Therapy Alone Following Shoulder...

Shoulder Pain

The purpose of this single-blinded, randomized clinical trial is to determine the effectiveness of dry needling compared to a standard shoulder rehabilitation program on range of motion, functional movement, and pain in patients who have undergone shoulder stabilization surgery. Measurements of the aforementioned dependent variables will be taken at time intervals of four weeks, eight weeks, 12 weeks, and six months post-operatively. It is hypothesized that the inclusion of dry needling will result in an increase in range of motion, increase in functional movement, and decrease in pain at an accelerated rate when compared to rehabilitation alone.

US-guided Percutaneous Electrolysis (EPE®) in Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain

Scientific evidence of conservative management of subacromial pain syndrome is conflicting. There is evidence that eccentric exercise programs are effective at medium term for this pain condition. The inclusion of other therapeutic modalities is still controversial. A recent study suggests that the inclusion of US-guided percutaneous electrolysis combined with eccentric exercises can be effective at short-term for this condition. The objective of this randomized clinical trial is to determine the effectiveness at short- and long-term of the inclusion of US-guided percutaneous electrolysis (EPE®) into a eccentric exercise protocol for the management of patients with subacromial pain syndrome for pain, function, disability and pressure pain sensitivity.

Treatment of Calcific Tendinitis of the Rotator Cuff

Shoulder PainTendonitis2 more

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the combination of removal of the calcification in calcific tendinitis of the shoulder (supraspinatus and/or infraspinatus tendon) by aspiration with a needle and syringe (barbotage) and a corticosteroid injection is more effective than corticosteroid or sham injection alone.
