Effectiveness of Acupuncture Clinical Pathway

Chronic PainLumbar Back Pain6 more

The study will be described the development and implementation of the Clinical pathway (CPW) for acupuncture treatment in the management of patients with some chronic pain conditions. The effectiveness of this CPW will be explored in this study through retrospective analysis of clinical outcomes after administration of acupuncture treatment summarised in the guidelines.

Psychosocial Factors of Persistent Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain

Several studies have shown that in chronic pain conditions, factors such as lack of positivity and resilience, pain catastrophizing, stress, anxiety and depression can contribute to the persistence and maintenance of pain. Thus, the present project will identify psychosocial risk factors that predict the persistence of shoulder pain. Individuals with shoulder pain (n=112) will be recruited. At baseline, the participants will fill a series of questionnaires evaluating different biopsychosocial constructs (resilience, perceived stress, anxiety, depression, pain, disability, pain catastrophizing, self-efficacy, social support, physical activity). After baseline evaluation, the participants will take part in an educational program aimed at promoting self-management of shoulder pain. At the end of the project (6 months), participants will only fill questionnaires evaluating pain and disability. Based on the scores on these questionnaires, the participants will be classified as having persistent shoulder pain or as recovered. Thereafter, statistical analyses will be performed to identify significant predictors for persistent shoulder pain. The primary hypothesis of the study is that low levels of resilience, self-efficacy, social support and physical activity, and high levels of stress, pain, disability, catastrophizing, anxiety and depression will negatively influence the pain response resulting in increased pain ratings and persistent symptoms over time.

Subscapularis Indocyanine Green Perfusion Pilot Study

Shoulder PainShoulder Arthritis1 more

The Purpose of this pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility of open wide-field imaging of indocyanine green ingress and egress during total shoulder arthroplasty. This study also hopes to characterize the relationship between tissue perfusion measured with DCE-FI and different approaches and techniques used in total shoulder arthroplasty. The long term goal of this study is to determine if there is a potential relationship between perfusion and patient reported outcomes and subscapularis failure.

MINIMUM EFFECTIVE VOLUME OF BUPIVACAİNE FOR ANTERIOR SUPRASCAPULAR NERVE BLOCK

Shoulder PainSupraspinatus Tendinitis1 more

Various local anesthetic volumes are used in the literature for anterior suprascapular nerve block (ASSB). There are different studies between 15 ml and 5 ml. Effective local anesthetic volume studies for ASSB have not yet been performed. Our study is aimed to investigate the minimum effective local anesthetic volume for ASSB.

Influence of Biopsychosocial Factors and Central Sensitization in Predicting the Recovery of Chronic...

Chronic Shoulder Pain

Background: Shoulder pain is the third most common musculoskeletal condition presenting to physicians or physiotherapists ) in primary healthcare after low back and neck pain being a significant cause of morbidity and functional disability in both working and general population. Despite the large group of individuals seeking for primary care services, about 50% of patients with shoulder pain still report persistent pain after 12-18 months. As a result, socio-economic burdens are considerable due to extensive use of heath care services, sickness absence, disability pension, and loss of productivity as well as, patient´s suffering. Aims: the primary aim of this study was to evaluate what biopsychosocial factors predict a better and/or poor outcome in patients with Chronic shoulder pain. The secondary aim was to analyze the role of central sensitization in predicting a better and/or poor outcome in patients with Chronic shoulder pain. Hypothesis: A high level of physical inactivity, kinesiophobia, fear avoidance and pain catastrophizing and low level of self-efficacy will ease the perpetuation of Chronic shoulder pain. The presence of central sensitization will predict a poor outcome in patients with chronic shoulder pain.

Pain Management of Emergency Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in Patients With Acute Cholecystitis

Abdominal PainShoulder Pain2 more

Patients diagnosed with acute cholecystitis benefit from emergency laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Patients who had emergency LC showed improvement in quality of life in one month compared to those treated. Delayed LC (after the acute cholecystitis has passed) and less time to recover from work. This strategy reduces the risk of repeated referrals with more pain or pancreatitis. There are many studies on the efficacy of intraoperative intraperitoneal bupivacaine(IPBV) with elective LC on pain of IPBV. However, the prospective study of reducing the postoperative pain of emergency LC - IPBV is very few. This study will be conducted to evaluate the efficacy of IPBV in patients with emergency LC.

Mobile Application Utilization for Measurement of Scapular Position

Shoulder Pain

The purpose of this study is to determine the ability of a mobile clinical application to reliably and accurately track scapular motion in people with asymptomatic and symptomatic shoulders. The ability to accurately and reliably measure shoulder position clinically is an important first step in choosing the best treatment techniques to treat shoulder movement dysfunction. Therefore, the primary objectives of the study are: To determine the inter- and intra-rater reliability of shoulder joint position measurements in symptomatic and asymptomatic subjects, by using a mobile application, with and without use of a handle for a smartphone To determine the validity of the shoulder joint position measurements measurements as described above.
