Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Lenalidomide in the Treatment of Complex Regional Pain...
Complex Regional Pain SyndromeType IThe purpose of this multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Lenalidomide in adult subjects with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) Type 1.
Neurotropin to Treat Chronic Neuropathic Pain
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type IComplex Regional Pain Syndrome Type IIThis study will examine the effectiveness of the drug neurotropin in treating chronic pain after injury to a limb or a large nerve. Two groups of patients will participate in this study: patients with complex regional pain syndrome type 1, or CRPS-I (also called reflex sympathetic dystrophy) and patients with complex regional pain syndrome type 2, or CRPS-II. CRPS-I is pain that develops after relatively minor injury to an arm or leg, but lasts much longer and is much more severe than would normally be expected. CRPS-II is pain resulting from injury to a large nerve. Candidates will have a history and physical examination, blood tests, and electrocardiogram. Participants will undergo the following tests and procedures: Patients with CRPS I and II will receive an individualized regimen of physical therapy and standard treatment to control their pain. In addition, they will receive neurotropin or placebo tablets for 5 weeks, then no trial medicine for at least 1 week, and then the other trial drug for the next 5 weeks. That is, patients who took placebo the first 5 weeks will take neurotropin the second 5 weeks and vice versa. Neither the patients nor the doctors will know who received which drug during the two intervals until the study is over. Patients will complete questionnaires about their pain, quality of life, and ability to perform daily living activities. They will have various tests to measure pain (such as sensitivity to heat and cold, to an electric current, to a mild pin prick, etc.); to provide information about changes in their condition (such as tests of range of motion of joints and limb size); to measure blood circulation and sweating in the arm or leg (such as measurements of blood flow to the limb, skin temperature, and sweat production), and other procedures.
Engage 24: Evaluation of the Safety and Effectiveness of URG101 in Subjects With Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder...
Interstitial CystitisBladder Pain SyndromeThe purpose of this study is to determine if the combination product (URG101) is safe and effective versus its individual components (Heparin Sodium and Lidocaine Hydrochloride) for the treatment of Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome. The study is randomized and double-blinded such that neither the subject nor doctor will know which drug or placebo is received.
Pharmacovigilance in Gerontopsychiatric Patients
DementiaDepression3 moreThe purpose of this multicenter-study is to investigate safety of psychopharmacological treatment and rates of adverse drug reactions in gerontopsychiatric inpatients. Elderly people are at higher risk for developing side effects under pharmacological treatment due to an altered metabolic situation, higher comorbidity rates and often polypharmacy. Furthermore gerontopsychiatric patients can often not articulate their symptoms clearly, for example due to pronounced cognitive impairment. The aim of the study is to gain valid data of possible adverse drug reaction rates, their potential risk factors and outcome, as well as medical prescription practises. To assess these outcomes an intensive pharmacovigilance-monitoring will be conducted at the five participating study sites. At Baseline demographic data, previous and present disorders, use of drugs, previous and present medication, quality of life, cognitive function, physical examination results, laboratory results and ECG will be assessed. Afterwards patients are visited weekly and screened for possible adverse drug reactions. All adverse drug reactions will be coded in the MedDRA-system. In case of a possible serious adverse drug reaction serum levels of all psychotropic substances applicated will be assessed. Drug combinations will be analysed using an established advanced bioinformatic tool (mediQ). Diagnosis, medication intake and possible adverse drug reactions are documented continually. 2 weeks after discharge from the ward, patients will be contacted by phone to assess catamnestic data.
Physical Activity in Insurance Medicine: Effects on Patients With Psychiatric Disorders
Depressive DisorderSomatoform Disorder2 moreWe will conduct a randomized control trial to investigate whether and to what extent regular and guided group physical activity over 12 weeks (2 sessions à 1 hour/week) improves physical fitness and (physio-)psychological functions (like subjective sleep, mental toughness, perceived stress, self-efficacy, etc.), as well as participation skills and the ability to work, in claimants for a disability pension due to psychiatric disorders, whose ability to work had recently been assessed by means of a psychiatric expert opinion. The control group is designed very similar and implies predominantly sedentary leisure time group activities (e.g. playing board games, doing handicrafts). Measures will be performed at baseline, post-test, and at follow ups three and twelve months after post-test, some variables will additionally be assessed 4-weekly during the intervention. We expect that intervention group participants will report and show, respectively, more improved physical fitness, (physio-)psychological functioning and participations skills, as well as increased ability to work, compared to the control group.

Complex Regional Pain SyndromeThe purpose of this study is to determine whether epidural and ketamine infusions are effective in the treatment of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
Manual Therapy to Treat Gluteus Medius Trigger Points
Anterior Knee Pain SyndromePatellofemoral Pain SyndromeThis is a blinded randomized controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of manual therapy to improve hip abduction strength in patients with acute anterior knee pain. The primary objective of this study is to see if manual therapy to the gluteus medius can significantly alter within-session measurements of hip abductor strength in patients with anterior knee pain. The secondary objective of this study is to see if manual therapy to the gluteus medius can significantly alter within session pain in patients with anterior knee pain.
Treatment of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome With Once Daily Gastric-Retentive Gabapentin (Gralise)...
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome I (CRPS I)The purpose of this study is to see if an FDA-approved drug (Gralise) can help people with certain types of neuropathic pain without causing too many side effects.
Risk Assessment for Prolonged Sickness Absence Due to Musculoskeletal Conditions
Musculoskeletal Pain DisorderMusculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are a leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide and for the last decade they have also been the most common cause of sickness absence and disability pension in Norway. Although most sickness absence is short-termed, a small proportion of people with MSK conditions are on long-term sick leave, contributing to large cost due to disbursement of benefits, productivity loss and extensive use of health care. There is growing evidence that long-term sickness absence is harmful to mental and physical health, with a reduced probability of return to work (RtW) with prolonged sickness absence. Thus, focusing on early RtW in people on sick leave due to MSK conditions is important to reduce the burden on both the individual and the society. However, to provide interventions to reduce the duration of sickness absence to all people on sick leave would require enormous resources. By targeting those at risk of long-term sickness absence, resources may be used differently, e.g. more resource-saving. By using information on modifiable risk factors from simple risk assessment tools, health care providers and other stakeholders may facilitate RtW in a better way. The overall purposes of this project are 1) to identify the most accurate screening tool to identify people at a high risk of prolonged sickness absence due to a MSK condition, and 2) to investigate severity of MSK health, health-related quality-of-life, health care consumption, and costs across different risk profiles in people on sick leave due to MSK conditions. We will use registered data on sickness absence from 1 year before to 1 year after inclusion in the study.
