Transvaginal Botulinum Toxin A for Interstitial Cystitis / Bladder Pain Syndrome

Interstitial CystitisBladder Pain Syndrome

Interstitial cystitis / bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a debilitating condition that affects millions of women in the United States. Women suffer from recurring pelvic pain, bladder pressure, painful bladder, urinary frequency (needing to go often) and urgency (feeling a strong need to go). Women are five times more likely to suffer from IC/BPS than men. IC/BPS is a common cause of painful bladder after excluding urinary tract infection. About one-third of women resort to opioids, thus contributing to the current opioid crisis. Sadly, there are no durable treatments and the majority of therapies are not FDA-approved for IC/BPS.

Impact of Compression Garments on Pain in Patients With Complex Regional Pain Syndrome of the Upper...

Complex Regional Pain Syndromes

The aim is to study another alternative for the treatment of pain in people with CRPS. Indeed, the TRAB / Medullary occupational therapy department of the CMRRF in Kerpape used compression garments to reduce edema when it was present. In the case of CRPS of the upper limbs, gloves or compression sleeves are used to decrease the edema which is sometimes associated, although they are not supported for this indication. In this context, our clinical experience leads us to believe that there would also be some efficacy in neuropathic pain, this improvement being regularly described by patients. This study is expected to show a notable reduction in neuropathic pain thanks to the wearing of a compression garment.

Clamshells Exercise and Vastrus Medialis Oblique Strengthening Exercise on Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome...

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

PFPS, also known as patellofemoral pain syndrome, is a prevalent musculoskeletal condition that primarily affects adolescents and young adults. When engaging in various activities, such as stair climbing, running, jumping, kneeling, or prolonged sitting, it is characterized by aching pain in the peripatellar region. Any disruption of these would result in abnormal PFJ overloading. Normal patellar tracking on the trochlea groove relies on the coordination and balance of many structures, including soft tissues, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and the shape of articular surfaces around the knee joint. Research in a variety of fields has received support the therapeutic exercise known as "clamshells" for stabilizing the pelvis by strengthening the hip abductors and external rotators.VMO strengthening exercises are also essential in keeping the patella in the trochlear groove and lowering the lateral vector force on the patellofemoral joint. This research aims to evaluate the effects of clamshells exercise and Vastrus medialis oblique strengthening exercise in patients with Patellofemoral pain syndrome. The study would be randomized clinical trial. Total fourty two subjects will be assigned randomly by using lottery method into two groups. Group A will be given clamshell exercise with baseline treatment while Group B will receive targeted vastrus medialis oblique strengthening exercise with baseline treatment. After confirmation of diagnosis with physical examination as well as zohlar's test /20 cm step down test are recommended. Numeric pain rating scale (NPRS) and Lower extremity functional scale (LEFS) would be used as an outcome measure tools for pain and functional limitation respectively. Measurements will be taken at (Baseline and at the end of treatment session). The collected data will be analyzed in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 25.0. Parametric/non-parametric tests will be applied after testing normality of data.

Chess Training as add-on Intervention for Adolescents With Psychiatric and Psychosomatic Disorders...

Children and Adolescents Inpatient in Psychiatric Hospital

In the planned study, the effect of chess training on the cognitive abilities of children and adolescents with psychiatric and psychosomatic illnesses will be investigated in a naturalistic setting. Furthermore, the effects on therapy success and quality of life will be determined.Despite the thoroughly positive results, CRT has not yet been included in the official guidelines as an intervention in standard therapy; this is due, among other things, to too few studies and too little knowledge in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. The planned study aims to fill the research gap in the field of chess training as an adjunctive intervention in children and adolescents and to provide further evidence on the relevance of CRT in child and adolescent psychiatry. The hypotheses of the proposed study are: chess training as a six-week add-on intervention will improve cognitive functioning in adolescents with psychiatric/psychosomatic disorders compared to standard treatment. chess training as a six-week add-on intervention improves quality of life in adolescents with psychiatric/psychosomatic disorders compared to standard treatment. chess training as a six-week add-on intervention positively influences the course of therapy in adolescents with psychiatric/psychosomatic illnesses compared to standard treatment.

The Effects of Dry Needling on Patients With Knee Pain

Patellofemoral Pain SyndromeAnterior Knee Pain Syndrome

This study is testing the effectiveness of "dry needling" for pain management and on muscle strength and leg function for those with knee pain. Dry needling consists of small, monofilament needles that are administered directly into the tissue and manipulated to make the muscle relax for pain relief. This technique is used to treat dysfunctions in skeletal muscle and connective tissue to help diminish pain, reduce impairments of body structure and restore function.

Comparing the Outcome of Electrical Stimulation and Physical Therapy in Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome...

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

The purpose of study is to evaluate the efficacy of the electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) device in patients with patellofemoral pain known as anterior knee pain. Usual treatment for it is physical therapy (PT). We want to evaluate and see if adding the electrical muscle stimulation will fasten the recovery and improved outcome in patellofemoral pain syndrome. Half of participants will receive EMS and PT while other half will receive PT only.

Study of BOTOX Injections to Assess Change in Disease Activity and Adverse Events in Adult Female...

Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS)

Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic and debilitating urological complex of disorders characterized by symptoms of bladder pain or discomfort, mostly upon bladder filling, and often accompanied by lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). This study will assess how safe and effective BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is in treating IC/BPS. Adverse events and change in disease symptoms will be evaluated. BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an investigational drug being developed for the treatment of Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS). Study doctors randomly assign the participants to 1 of 2 groups, called treatment arms, to receive BOTOX or placebo. There is a 1 in 2 chance that participants will be assigned to placebo. Approximately 80 female participants, aged 18 to 75 years, with a diagnosis of IC/BPS will be enrolled in approximately 40 sites in the United States and Canada. Participants will receive BOTOX or placebo injected into the bladder on Day 1 and will be followed for at least 12 weeks in treatment 1. Eligible participants may request additional dose of BOTOX between Weeks 12 and 24, and will be followed for 12 weeks in treatment period 2. There may be higher treatment burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend regular visits during the study at a hospital or clinic. The effect of the treatment will be checked by medical assessments, blood tests, checking for side effects and completing questionnaires.

Low-dose Naltrexone for Bladder Pain Syndrome

Bladder Pain SyndromeInterstitial Cystitis

Interstitial cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/PBS) is a constellation of symptoms of pelvic discomfort that includes both bladder-related pain as well as urinary frequency, urgency, and nocturia in the absence of an identifiable etiology that affects likely more than 5.4 million patients in the United States. There is a significant overlap in patients with IC/PBS and those with fibromyalgia and chronic pelvic pain syndrome. Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) has been shown to be effective for the treatment of chronic pain conditions. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate if LDN improves pain scores and lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with IC/PBS. A secondary aim is to show that it has a low adverse event profile.
