Immunogenicity of Recombinant Vesicular Stomatitis Vaccine for Ebola-Zaire (rVSV[Delta]G-ZEBOV-GP)...

Healthy Volunteers

Background: The Ebola virus causes a severe disease. It can be fatal. The usual incubation period after being exposed is 2 to 21 days. There is no approved treatment for Ebola infection. There is also no vaccine to prevent infection either before or after exposure. Researchers want to test an Ebola vaccine. They want to give it to people before they are exposed to the virus in order to prevent the disease. Objectives: To see how long-lasting and effective the vaccine rVSV[delta]G ZEBOV-GP (V920) is at preventing Ebola. Eligibility: Healthy adults at risk of exposure to the Ebola virus at work through lab or clinical contact. Design: Participants will be screened with medical history, physical exam, and blood tests. Participants will get the study vaccine. It will be injected into their upper arm. Participants will be monitored closely for at least 30 minutes. They will get a diary card to record any symptoms they have from the vaccine for up to 14 days. Participants will have study visits at 1, 3, and 6 months after they get the vaccine, then every 6 months (that is, at months 12, 18, 19, 24, 30, and 36 of study) for a total of 36 months. Eighteen months after they join the study, participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will get a second (or booster ) dose of the vaccine. The other group will not get a second dose. This study lasts 36 months.

Exploring effective risk prediction models for severe RTOM, providing a research basis for mitigating oral radiation toxicity, and effectively improving the sensitivity of dentists in predicting the risk of severe RTOM in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients.Based on precise radiotherapy, it is proposed to extract OAR using the contour of local oral areas. Explore more accurate RTOM dose-response relationships.Exploring a new type of fusion classifier, by complementing the information between each base classifier, helps to maximize the utilization of the information contained in different factors to build a more objective, reliable, and efficient multi criteria decision-making based risk prediction model for severe RTOM.

Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis

Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) is experienced by almost everyone and appears suddenly. Even though the risk of death due to the condition is small, its presence can make a person feel uncomfortable eating, drinking, and talking so there will be a decrease in the quality of a person's life in their daily lives. Recently, α-Mangostin (α-M) from mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana L) has been shown its effect to reduce oral mucosal sores on RAS in preclinical studies in rats. Therefore, research is needed to prove the benefits (efficacy) and safety of therapy in the form of a hydrogel film patch/plaster film with a chitosan alginate base as a carrier for α-Mangostin for the treatment of RAS patients.

Photobiomodulation in Oral Lesions Resulting From Anti-neoplastic Prevention

Introduction: There are several manifestations in the oral mucosa resulting from antineoplastic treatments by chemo (QT) or radiotherapy (RT). In this study we will collect the variables referring to oral mucositis (OM), radiodermatitis, osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ), hyposalivation and xerostomia, dysgeusia, pain, oral candidiasis (opportunistic infection), trismus, quality of life, oral hygiene. MO and hyposalivation, which are related to damage to the salivary glands, are the most common manifestations, and ONJ is the most difficult to treat. The dentist can play an important role in prevention and treatment these oral lesions, directly influencing the patient's quality of life and adherence to antineoplastic treatment. Objectives: The main objective is to evaluate the efficacy of the intervention, using LLL phototherapy and topical Vit E, in the OM. And the intervention through LLL phototherapy and LPRP in the ONJ. These interventions will be performed by dentists during antineoplastic medical treatment. Material and methods: clinical trial, randomized, with balanced randomization, single-blind (for the evaluator of the results) with 2 experimental arms and a control group, carried out in a single center. Group 1, intervention with LLL phototherapy, Group 2, intervention with application of topical Vit E and Group 3, mouthwash with 0.12% chlorhexidine (usual clinical information). 360 patients will participate in this study from the Units of Oncology Medicine, Radiotetaphic Medicine and Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery and Implantology at the University of Santiago de Compostela. The segment of the patients will be given, an initial visit and returns every day that hears the application of antineoplastic treatment for the group of LLL phototherapy, returns of 15 days, one month, three months, six months, nine months and one year. In these return visits, evaluations and questionnaires will be carried out regarding all the variables that we will collect. Predictable results: If the application of laser phototherapy or topical Vit E contributes to the cessation, reduction or improvement of the clinical evolution of the manifestation of oral lesions, these treatments could be immediately implemented in our Oral Medicine unit and could lay the foundations for its implementation in different public centers and private.

OZOCLO_MUCOSITIS: a New Protocol for Prevention of Oral Mucositis

Oral mucositis (OM) is a significant side effect of cytotoxic anti-cancer chemotherapy and HN radiotherapy. CT-associated OM (CT-OM). It is the ulcerative phase that is most painful and associated with poor health outcomes. The sequelae of CT-OM, which include pain, odyno/dys-phagia, dysgeusia, decreased oral intake and systemic infection, frequently require treatment delays, interruptions, and discontinuations that not only negatively impact the quality of life but also tumor control and survivorship. To date, OM management is aimed to control symptoms through topical or systemic analgesics and topical application of barrier agents to cover injured mucosa as a salve or ointment. According to the recent MASCC/ISOO Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Mucositis Secondary to Cancer Therapy, no guideline was possible regarding the use of saline or sodium bicarbonate rinses in the prevention or treatment of OM-CT in patients undergoing cancer therapy because of limited data. Ozone at low medical concentration, not included in MASCC guidelines, will be generally proven to induce a mild activation of protective anti-oxidant pathways, thus exerting therapeutic effects in many inflammatory diseases. Aim: to evaluate the effectiveness of a new protocol OZOCLO (alpha-lipoic acid, ozonated oil, and chlorhexidine [CHX] mouthwash) compared to sodium bicarbonate solution (Oral Basic Care- OBC) or chlorhexidine (CHX) mouthwash alone or to a binomial administration (AAL-OZ) of systemic alpha-lipoic acid and topical ozonated oil to reduce the incidence of OM (primary aim) and/or to postpone the beginning of oral mucositis (OM) and to reduce OM severity (secondary aims).

Oral Mucositis

Oral mucositis is common among cancer patients receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy. 80-90% of the patients are suffering from the mucositis pain; poor nutrition and even treatment discontinued. Some self-paid medications like glutamine has been used to prevent mucositis before and during radiotherapy/chemotherapy. Randomized controlled trials have shown that honey and propolis may be used for the management of mucositis. Honey demonstrates the most significant antibacterial effects; the green propolis has also been proved to comprise antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. Bee products have been concerned as potential sources of natural antioxidants such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, and terpenoids. This study plan to conduct an RCT comparing the effectiveness of honey, honey and green propolis, and usual care in mucositis of cancer patients.

The aim of this study is to answer whether glutamine plus thalidomide could improve the median incidence time of grade 2 oral mucositis. Participants would be randomly divided into the two groups above mentioned.

Association of Periodontal Inflammation on Immune Response in Wound Healing

Inflammation of Mouth

Subjects who are in need of extraction of a posterior tooth will be recruited for this study. Prior to extraction, periodontal clinical markers of inflammation, body-mass index and dental radiographs will be measured/taken. The posterior tooth will be atraumatically extracted and a small soft tissue biopsy of the extraction site will be taken. At the two week follow-up, sutures will be removed and another small biopsy of soft tissue will be taken. Subjects will be seen again at 3 months for a final collection of clinical data and radiographs.
