Motor ActivityAttention Deficit2 moreThis study is designed to investigate effects on attentional performance and motoric activity of 100 mg microencapsulated glycine (Bidicin® from Biotiki®) compared to placebo after treatment with t.i.d. sublingual doses over 3 weeks each. The primary objective of the study is to determine the effects on attentional performance and motoric activity of 100 mg microencapsulated Glycine (Bidicin® from Biotiki® ) compared to placebo after treatment with t.i.d. sublingual doses over 3 weeks each in children with low attentional performance and high motoric activity. A number of 30 prepuberal boys and girls aged 6 - 14 years with low attentional performance and high motoric activity will be enrolled in this study. StressPsychologicalPsychosocial stress increases the risk for a multitude of diseases, including obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. Stress may also result in increased utilization of health care services. In the workplace, stress leads to emotional exhaustion, job dissatisfaction, lower productivity and impaired performance. Stress management programs and those based on mindfulness meditation have gained popularity in recent years. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of an 8-week web-based mindfulness stress reduction program and its effectiveness in reducing work related stress and improving well-being in a large corporate call center.
Girls In Recovery From Life Stress (GIRLS) Study
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderPTSDThis study will compare treatment outcomes of 90 adolescent girls who are (a) at high risk for delinquency and/or are juvenile justice involved, and (b) who are experiencing symptoms of PTSD: 45 of the girls will receive Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET, Frisman, Ford, Lin, Mallon, & Chang, in press), and their outcomes will be compared to 45 girls who receive Enhanced Treatment as Usual (ETAU). As part of their involvement, participants will make phone calls to provide data via an interactive voice response system (IVR), meet 3 times for a research interview, and be invited to participate in a cognitive assessment substudy at the Olin Neuropsychiatric Research Center at Hartford Hospital.
Correlation Between Psychological Stress and Disease Progression in Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma...
GlioblastomaIt is a single-center, prospective, observational,non-randomized study of newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients conducted in a tertiary hospital. The investigators examine the psychological stress, immune biomarker changes, quality of life, and disease progression of patients with glioblastoma at five-time points. The study had two cohorts, a high-stress cohort and a low-stress cohort, which are grouped after initial recruitment. Both groups undergo total resection of tumors and received 3 months of standardized treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Neither participants nor doctors but the researcher can choose which group participants are in. No one knows if one study group is better or worse than the other.
Correlation Between Psychological Stress and Progression of Diffuse Astrocytoma Towards Secondary...
AstrocytomaIt is a single-center, prospective, observational, non-randomized study of newly diagnosed diffuse astrocytoma patients conducted in a tertiary hospital. The investigators conduct an eight-year follow-up, including patients' psychological stress, immune biomarker changes, quality of life, and disease progression of patients towards secondary glioma after the first definite diagnosis. In the first year after diagnosis, patients are followed up four times at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. After that, patients are followed up semiannually.

"OnCall": Implementation Study of M-Health for Canadian Public Safety Personnel
Mental Health IssueMental Stress1 moreFirst Responders, or Public Safety Personnel (PSP), play a key role in protecting the health and safety of Canadians, yet this important work can take a toll on their mental health, leading to an elevated risk of post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI). Mobile health approaches are a promising tool to facilitate access to confidential on-demand mental health support both when and where it is needed. There are gaps, however, in evidence to support the use of m-health apps, particularly in relation to implementation in the PSP community. The overall purpose of this prospective cohort implementation study is to explore how OnCall, a new mobile health peer-to-peer support application for Public Safety Personnel (PSP) affects peer support help-outreach in the workplace. Implementation and impact will be tracked over 6-month period in a purposive sample of 6-8 different PSP organizations across Canada. Study findings will inform recommendations for optimizing implementation of the m-health platform with employees in other PSP organisations.
CARINAE for Stress Relief in Perioperative Care
Psychological StressCardiopulmonary Bypass Surgery9 morePreventing pre-surgical stress can help patients achieve positive outcomes on health and well-being. However, very few patients receive adequate stress relief support prior to a surgical procedure. Provision of education and information about the surgery can be a crucial component of the preoperative experience and is inversely related to levels of preoperative anxiety. However, resource constraints make face-to-face education sessions untenable, given cost considerations and time investment by trained health personnel. Interventions based on mobile health (mHealth) technologies, geared towards increasing familiarity with surgical procedures and hospital environments have been shown to help patients feel informed about possible benefits and risks of available treatment options. mHealth apps and Virtual Reality (VR) can offer patients experience in the perioperative environment that can be helpful in empowering patients and enhancing a more positive experience, while reducing stress. However, available applications focus only on providing informative content, neglecting the importance of patient empowerment with a more robust educational curriculum. According to this, the Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) CARINAE, aims to support patients and caregivers during the whole perioperative process. SaMD CARINAE consists of an mHealth mobile application for patients and caregivers, a Virtual Reality headset for patients, and a web application for healthcare professionals.
