MicroRNA Biomarkers for Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome

Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal SyndromeNeonatal Abstinence Syndrome

Infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) experience prolonged hospital stays and poor neurodevelopmental outcomes, in-part because of the lack of accurate, individualized, biologic assessments available to manage this increasingly common medical condition. The proposed study will define the molecular mechanisms that regulate the response to opioid withdrawal in the developing brain by focusing on three candidate microRNAs (let-7a, miR-146a, miR-192) that have been shown to respond to opioid exposure in animal models and adults, and are impacted in both my preliminary study of infants with NAS, and my human neural progenitor cell (NPC) design of opioid withdrawal. By determining the mechanism through which microRNAs impact NPC differentiation in opioid withdrawal, and determining whether exosomal salivary microRNA levels predict treatment dose and neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants with NAS, this study will enhance our knowledge of NAS-related biology and identify potential biomarkers that could improve medical care for this important medical condition.

A Retrospective Analysis of Outcomes in Patients With Hepatorenal Syndrome at Methodist Dallas Medical...

Hepatorenal Syndrome

Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a common cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with liver disease [1]. Increased activity and presence of vasodilators such as nitric oxide in cirrhotic patients leads to vasodilation, especially in the splanchnic circulation, resulting in hemodynamic changes that precipitate renal injury [1]. Patients may present with elevated serum creatinine (Cr), benign urine sediment, and low urine sodium [1].

Sjogren's Syndrome

Gougerot-Sjögren syndrome or Sjögren syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease belonging to connectivitis, the classic triad of symptoms being the association of a sicca syndrome (generally predominant in the mouth and / or ocular, but also present at the cutaneous, vaginal or tracheal level), diffuse arthromyalgia and marked fatigue. The study investigators hypothesize that changes in the gut microbiota, by modulating gut permeability and thereby promoting microbial translocation, would have immunomodulatory effects that could be correlated to changes in the activity of Gougerot-Sjögren disease.

Primary Immunodeficiency (PID)Congenital Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes3 more

This is a data collection study that will examine the general diagnostic and treatment data associated with the reduced-intensity chemotherapy-based regimen paired with simple alemtuzumab dosing strata designed to prevented graft failure and to aid in immune reconstitution following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

The Research About Acute Compartment Syndrome

Acute Compartment Syndrome

Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is defined as a clinical entity originated from trauma or other conditions, and remains challenging to diagnose and treat effectively. Threre is the controversy in diagnosing, treating ACS. It was found that there was no criterion about the ACS, and result unnecessary osteotomy. The presence of clinical assessment (5P) always means the necrosis of muscles and was the most serious or irreversible stage of ACS. Besides pressure methods, the threshold of pressure identifying ACS was also controversial.

Intervention For AYAS With Cancer Risk Syndromes

Cancer Risk Syndrome

This research is being done because there is a need to improve cancer risk communication and decision-making among adolescents and young adults. In this study, the investigators are looking at whether using a chatbot and online portal for cancer risk information helps improve communication and decision-making. Over 70,000 adolescents and young adults (AYAs) are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. every year and up to 10% have genetic changes (or, mutations) that put them at a higher risk of developing new cancers during their lifetimes. These genetic mutations can result in cancer risk syndromes (such as, Lynch Syndrome or Li-Fraumeni Syndrome). Identifying cancer risk syndromes can allow for screening and early diagnosis of future cancers, which could ultimately save lives and offer more care choices for patients. As a result, genetic counseling and testing for cancer risk syndromes is being recommended more for Adolescents and Young Adults with new cancer diagnoses, regardless of family history. This research study to develop an intervention called AYA-RISE that aims to assist AYAs with cancer risk communication and decision-making around their caregivers.

Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Safety Profile of Understudied Drugs Administered to Children...

Coronavirus Infection (COVID-19)Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension23 more

The study investigators are interested in learning more about how drugs, that are given to children by their health care provider, act in the bodies of children and young adults in hopes to find the most safe and effective dose for children. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the PK of understudied drugs currently being administered to children per SOC as prescribed by their treating provider.

Natural History Study of Usher Syndrome ( Light4Deaf )

Usher Syndromes

Clinical centres in the LIGHT4DEAF consortium have developed and will continue to improve a reliable, early molecular diagnosis and protocols for full clinical characterisation of Usher syndrome, which will be valuable for the foreseen USH clinical trials. The clinical arm of the project aims at performing a deep-phenotyping of retinal degeneration, hearing loss, vestibular dysfunction, neurocognitive ability of subects with a molecular diagnosis of any Usher syndrome. Functional and structural parameters for retinal, auditory, and vestibular impairments are followed overtime to document the natural history of the disease and establish relevant clinical endpoint for disease progression that may be useful for future clinical trials.
