Phase II Study of Dietary Cholesterol for Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome

Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome

OBJECTIVES: I. Examine the intestinal absorption of dietary cholesterol in patients with Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome. II. Measure the effect of dietary cholesterol on plasma sterol composition. III. Quantify basal cholesterol synthesis, turnover of cholesterol and 7-dehydrocholesterol, and the effects of dietary cholesterol on these parameters. IV. Identify fecal bile acid excretion quantitatively and qualitatively in these patients. V. Compare the incorporation of deuterated water into plasma cholesterol, 7-dehydrocholesterol, and other intermediates, and assess the effect of dietary cholesterol on this incorporation.

Evaluation of Joint Position Sense in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The aim of the study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the KForce Sens® for the evaluation of wrist joint position sense in individuals with CTS. Wrist joint position sense was assessed with KForce Sens® and Baseline® electrogoniometer. The validity and reliability of the KForce Sens® for wrist position sense evaluation were investigated by comparing the two data sets.

COmparison of the Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics Ticagrelor Versus Clopidogrel in Patients...

Non ST Segment Elevation Acute Coronary SyndromeChronic Kidney Disease

Ticagrelor, a new P2Y12 receptor antagonist, achieve faster, consistent and higher platelet inhibition than clopidogrel, which was considered more noticeable in patients with ACS combining chronic kidney disease(CKD). Nonetheless, the pharmacokinetic properties of ticagrelor in the patients with CKD and NSTE-ACS has not been thoroughly studied. This study was designed to provide PK and PD data of ticagrelor compared with clopidogrel, in order to estimate that ticagrelor is superior to clopidogrel in getting better inhibition of platelet in patients with CKD and NSTE-ACS. P2Y12 inhibitor naïve patients with CKD (eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73m2 ) and NSTE-ACS will be enrolled in this single-center, prospective, randomized, parallel-control study and randomly assigned in a one-to-one ratio to receive ticagrelor or clopidogrel on top of chronic aspirin treatment. The primary endpoint was the PRU by Verify Now at 30 days after loading dose.

More Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs in Less Time

Acute Coronary Syndrome

To determine if an intensive cardiac rehabilitation program with periodic reinforcements improve the compliance/adherence to secondary preventive measures (physical exercise, mediterranean diet, tobacco abstinence, pharmacological treatment) after an acute coronary syndrome with or without ST segment elevation versus an standard cardiac rehabilitation program

NIPPV and nBiPAP Methods in Preterm Infants With Respiratory Distress Syndrome

PrematurityRespiratory Distress Syndrome

Purpose is to compare introduction of NIPPV (Nasal Intermittent Positive-Pressure Ventilation) and nBiPAP (Nasal Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure) in terms of mechanical ventilation (MV) need (non-invasive respiratory support failure) and surfactant need within the first 72 hours of life in preterm infants with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) at 26-30 weeks of gestation.

The Effect on EPCs by Statin Loading in "All Comers" With an ACS

Acute Coronary Syndrome

Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. There are a number of risk factors for coronary artery disease and all to often patients admitted with an acute coronary syndrome have these comorbidities. The main stay of treatment of such patients is to perform coronary angiography and if required coronary angioplasty. Previous studies have shown a link between endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) count, coronary artery disease and statin therapy or loading, however these studies have excluded patients with significant comorbidities and therefore have not truly represented "real life" patients. This pilot study will assess EPC response in patients that are able to undergo coronary intervention as part of their normal clinical management under current guidelines regardless of pre-existing comorbidities. The research team believe this will allow representation of "real world" patients.

Correlation Between the Amplitude of Ankle Dorsiflexion and Occurrence of Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome...

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

The aim of this study was to verify the clinical reliability of ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ADROM) measurement with weight bearing (WB) using an app on the smartphone (iHand) and to verify if there is correlation between the limitation of the ADROM and the PFP.

Clinical Trial Assessing 5-HT3 Receptor Antagonist (Ramosetron) for the Treatment of Anterior Resection...

Anterior Resection Syndrome

Poor functional outcomes has been reported inevitably, and up to 90% of the patients have experienced bowel habit changes after sphincter-saving surgery for rectal cancer. But, currently there has been no specific treatment for ARS and symptom based empirical management is tried Recently, 5-HT3 receptor antagonists can be used for treatment of IBS-D, and has been revealed to be slowing the bowel movement and improving stool consistency and urgency. We performed the clinical trial with using ramosetron (Irribow®) for the treatment of ARS

Effectiveness of Dry Needling as a Treatment of Shoulder Myofascial Pain Syndrome in Spinal Cord...

Spinal Cord InjuriesMyofascial Pain Syndrome2 more

Shoulder pain in people with spinal cord injury is one of the most prevalent in acute and chronic patients because of weakness in shoulder periarticular muscles, and also because of overuse of these part of the body in assistive devices. This study aims to evidence if dry needling (a physiotherapy technique) is also useful in patients with spinal cord injury, and how long it could hold out without or less pain.
