Diaphragmatic Pacemaker in Tetraplegic Patients With Spinal Cord Injuries

Respiratory ParalysisDiaphragmatic Paralysis1 more

Permanent dependency of breathing apparatus due to spinal cord injury is traditionally treated with different types of mechanical ventilation. However, the electric ventilation became a possibility through their most current versions, such as diaphragmatic pacemakers. Diaphragmatic pacemakers rhythmically stimulates the diaphragm to replace the functions of the respiratory center that doesn't works well or is inaccessible. However, this modality has the prerequisite that the phrenic nerve and diaphragm muscle are normal. The reason for the development of diaphragmatic pacemaker freeing the patient from the ventilator. By using the mechanical energy of the diaphragm of the patient, the patient may come not need the ventilator tubing, tracheostomy, and with the help of their caregivers, the inconvenient mechanical ventilators.

Safety and Efficacy Study of FS 4 IU VH S/D (Fibrin Sealant With 4IU/mL Thrombin, Vapor Heated,...

Deep Partial or Full Thickness Wounds

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate skin graft adherence and wound healing in burn patients to evaluate whether FS 4IU VH S/D is equivalent or superior to the current standard of care (staples). The primary endpoint is achievement of complete (100%) wound closure within 28 days.

Early Debridement Within 24 Hours After Surgery for Wound Healing of Abdominal Incision

Surgical Wound

Wound healing after surgery is a complex procedure. Liquefaction of the fat and necrosis of inactivated tissue, as well as blood clots are always accumulated mostly within 24 hours after surgery. As such, early debridement within 24 hours after surgery might improve the healing of the wounds. This study is designed to compare the impact of early debridement of the wound versus regular dressing (24 hours later) on the wound healing. 100 patients will be included in this study, and divided into 2 groups randomly. Then, the healing of the wound, stitch removal time, incidence of incision complications will be compared between the two groups.

Intervention to Change Attributions That Are Negative (ICAN)

TraumaBrain6 more

ICAN is the first treatment to target hostile attributions after TBI, making it a novel anger/ aggression management approach in this population. This is a randomized waitlist control trial. The length of time in the trial is approximately 15 weeks and the intervention is 6 weeks long.

Long-term Paired Associative Stimulation as a Treatment for Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury of Non-traumatic...

Spinal Cord DiseasesSpinal Cord Injuries

The investigators have recently shown in incomplete SCI patients that long-term paired associative stimulation is capable of restoring voluntary control over some paralyzed muscles and enhancing motor output in the weak muscles (1). In this study, the investigators will administer long-term paired associative stimulation to patients with incomplete SCI of non-traumatic origin.

Assessment of Neurorehabilitation in Spinal Cord Injury Using Neuroimage Tools.

InjuriesSpinal Cord

The sensorimotor cortex may play a role in the functional recovery after Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) through efference generated in the absence of the afference. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential reorganization in the sensorimotor cortex in SCI patients after Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training (BWSTT) associated with conventional motor rehabilitation. METHOD: Seven SCI patients with ASIA C and D participated in this study. They were submitted to a motor-task functional magnetic resonance imaging study (fMRI) before and after the rehabilitation treatment.

Prospective Randomized Trial of Dermabond Prineo in Total Knee Arthroplasty

Wound Heal

In this prospective pilot study examining the superficial closure during total knee arthroplasty, active subjects will receive the STRATAFIX Spiral Knotless Tissue Control Device for subcuticular closure in addition to DERMABOND PRINEO (Ethicon, Johnson and Johnson, Somerville, New Jersey) system for dermal closure. The control subjects will receive staples (standard-of-care).

Wound Vac Polypropylene Suture Pilot Study

Wound VacSuture

You are being asked to participate in this study because you have a complex wound that requires treatment with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). NPWT is a therapeutic technique which involves the placement of a wound vacuum at the site of the wound. The wound vacuum delivers a negative pressure at the wound site through a dressing. Any fluid collected during this process is collected through a foam (sponge) underneath the dressing. This therapy helps to draw the edges of the wound together, while removing infectious material, to help promote healthy tissue growth and speed up wound healing. The purpose of this study is to determine if placing polypropylene suture (a material normally used to close wounds) between the wound and the NPWT foam would decrease pain upon removal of the sponge while allowing adequate healing of the wound.
