Knee OsteoarthritisQuality of LifeKnee Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common joint diseases with chronic low-severity inflammation. 80% of individuals with knee OA have limited movements; It was found that 25% of them could not do their daily work. In addition, it has been shown that the quality of life of individuals with OA is lower compared to healthy individuals. This showed that measuring and reporting quality of life should be mandatory in clinical studies conducted in individuals with knee OA. It was stated that the most frequently used general scales in the evaluation of quality of life in these individuals were SF-36 or SF-12. It takes a long time for the SF-36 to be filled by individuals, which creates a disadvantage for both patients and clinicians. Developed as a shorter alternative to SF-36, SF-12 has also been shown to give similar results to SF-36 in individuals with knee OA who have undergone total knee arthroplasty. However, the psychometric properties of SF-12 in individuals with knee OA have not been examined. The purpose of this study is to examine whether SF-12 is valid and reliable in individuals with knee OA and to determine the minimum detectable change (MDC) value.

Knee Injections for the Clinical Management of Knee OsteoArthritis
Knee OsteoarthritisKnee osteoarthritis (OA) is an incurable disease that involves breakdown of the knee joint. This breakdown is often accompanied by knee pain and stiffness, which can limit a person's daily physical activity. Fortunately, there are treatments that may stop or slow the progression of knee OA. Bone marrow aspirate can be extracted and processed into autologous, nucleated cells, then injected back into the knee affected by OA. These cells provide important nutrients that can improve the health of the knee joint and alleviate the symptoms of knee OA. Therefore, the investigators are interested in determining whether an injection of autologous, nucleated cells can improve physical activity, pain and function in people who are diagnosed with knee OA. The investigators will recruit a total of 100 subjects for this study and examine changes in physical activity using a research-grade Actigraph Monitor.

The intervention will be performed only for patients for whom this therapeutic indication exists anyway by their physician. Knee OsteoarthritisPurpose: The study was conducted to determine the effect of 1 ml of nigella sativa oil applied for 2 minutes three times a day for 21 days on pain severity and physical functions in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Design and methods: This randomized controlled study was conducted with patients diagnosed with knee OA and admitted to the physical therapy outpatient clinic of a public hospital in Turkey between February 15, 2021 and March 31, 2021. A total of 75 patients were included in the study, and 25 of them were assigned to the nigella sativa oil group, 25 to the naproxen and lidocaine gel group, and 25 to the massage group. Research data were collected using the "Patient Information Form", "Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index = WOMAC)" and knee joint range measurements were made. For 21 days, both knees were massaged for 2 minutes 3 times a day, 1 ml of nigella sativa oil was applied to the patients in the nigella sativa oil group, 1 ml of naproxen and lidocaine gel was applied to the patients in the naproxen and lidocaine gel group, and 1 ml of liquid vaseline was applied to the patients in the massage group.

Prehabilitation Using Aquatic Exercise
OsteoarthritisKneeWith aging population, total knee arthroplasty is performed with increasing frequency. Although the surgery is successful in general, significant number of patients suffers persistent pain and disability. Traditional risk assessment tool have been focused on single organ systems. Our investigators have found that mobility, assessed by the Mobility Assessment Tool short form (MAT-sf), is a simple and accurate method to predict postoperative outcome, including length of stay, postoperative complications, and nursing home placement for older patients. Prehabilitation is the process of enhancing a person's functional capacity to withstand an incoming stressor. Although multiple studies have tested prehabilitation before joint replacement surgery, results have been mixed. The investigators hypothesize that patients with limited mobility are most likely to benefit from prehabilitation. The investigators plan to use individualized aquatic exercise as a prehabilitation tool to enhance compliance; the resistance of water strengthen muscle and increasing energy expenditure; the buoyancy of water provides environment where the joints are not weight bearing. The aims of the study are: 1) To evaluate the feasibility of prehabilitation using 6-8 weeks of aquatic exercise in 40 geriatric patients who are scheduled for total knee arthroplasty for osteoarthritis; 2) To examine the effects of 6-8 weeks of aquatic exercise on mobility, pain, stiffness, physical function, cognitive function and depression; inflammatory markers and 3) To estimate the effect of prehabilitation on postoperative outcomes. The investigators plan to enroll 40 patients age >50, who are scheduled for elective primary total knee replacement. Investigators will screen patients in the Preoperative Assessment Clinic and enroll patients who have decreased mobility, measured by MAT-sf. Patients will be randomized into either a prehabilitation group or a usual care group. All the participants will undergo extensive assessment on their pain, stiffness, and physical function, depression, balance and cognitive function using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), the expanded Short Physical Performance Battery (eSPPB), and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Serum inflammatory markers will be assessed at the baseline. The prehabilitation group will undergo 6-8 weeks of individualized aquatic exercise in a heated pool (60 min/session, 3 times per week). Aquatic equipment maybe used to challenge balance and trunk stabilization. All participants will be reassessed immediately before surgery and 4 weeks after the surgery using WOMAC, eSPPB, MoCA and MAT-sf. Serum inflammatory markers and body composition will be reassessed at the same time points. The primary outcome of interest is will be postoperative complications, length of stay, Intensive Care Unit length of stay, and institutionalization. If successful, investigators will have sound pilot data for several critical health outcomes with which to support an external proposal for a larger-scale study.
