Clinical and Radiographic Evaluation of Demineralized Freeze-Dried Bone Allograft Versus Platelet...

Periodontitis

Inflammatory periodontal disease often results in loss of bone around the teeth. Bone defects that have a certain size and shape (called intrabony or intraosseous defects) may be improved by using a graft material in the bony defect. The purpose of this study is to compare healing of periodontal intrabony defects that are treated using demineralized freeze dried bone allograft (DFDBA) versus autogenous platelet-rich fibrin. The null hypotheses is that there will be no significant differences in bone fill, CAL gain, PD reduction or recession at sites treated with PRF compared to sites treated with DFDBA.

Effect of Local Cannabidiol on Clinical and Inflammatory Outcomes in Periodontal Maintenance Patients....

PeriodontitisAdult1 more

This study will determine if cannabidiol (CBD) has any effect on local inflammation in periodontal maintenance patients. Many successful therapies exist for the active, untreated periodontal patient. Unfortunately, periodontology has not yet discovered a therapy that will predictably treat local inflammation in patients who are at risk for further pocketing, bleeding on probing, bone loss and ultimately, tooth loss. Although CBD has been patented in various forms since the 1940s, its acceptance and availability to patients has only recently expanded. Marketing of CBD to periodontal patients as a means to control inflammation is commonplace online and in CBD-specific shops. In determining if CBD is a successful supplement to conventional periodontal inflammation control therapies, millions of patients could benefit from this treatment.

Adrenomedullin Upregulation in Apical Periodontitis

Periapical Periodontitis

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between Apical periodontitis (AP) severity and inflammatory markers (IL-12, TNF-alpha), and Mid-Regional Pro Adrenomedullin (MR-proADM) in patients with AP. A total of 174 subjects were divided into three categories: AP group (n=82), Chronic periodontitis (CP) group (n=42), healthy control group (n=50). Blood samples were collected from all of the patients. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to evaluate the samples.

Evaluation of a New Self-reported Tool for Periodontitis Screening

Periodontitis and Treatment Need

200 patients took part in the questionnaire and were examined using the PSI. Thereafter the participants were divided into two groups, non-periodontitis persons (group 1; PSI 0-2) and periodontitis persons (group 2; PSI 3-4). The answers were evaluated using a point system ranging from 0 to 8, based on known periodontal risk factors and their assumed degree of influence. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were applied to examine the overall discriminatory power, sensitivity and specificity, and corresponding cut-off points of the self-reported periodontal disease scale.

The Effect of Periodontal Therapy in Chronic Periodontitis Patients With and Without Acute Myocardial...

Myocardial InfarctionChronic Periodontitis

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of periodontal treatment on gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) levels of Neopterin(N) and vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM-1) in chronic periodontitis(CP) patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI) in comparison to systemically healthy CP patients. The investigators' hypothesized that severe CP may play a role in initiating or exacerbating MI and there is an increased risk for AMI among systemically healthy persons affected with severe CP.

Pre-procedural Mouthwash in Reducing Bacteria in Dental Aerosols

Chronic Periodontitis

The aim of this randomized, single blinded clinical trial was to evaluate the effect of a pre-procedural mouthwash containing cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), zinc lactate (Zn) and sodium fluoride (F) in the reduction of viable bacteria in oral aerosol/splatter after a dental prophylaxis with ultrasonic scaler.

Metabolic Effects of Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis in Non-diabetic Subjects

PeriodontitisPrediabetes

This study was aimed at assessing the effects of non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) of chronic periodontitis on insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance, and serum C-reactive protein(CRP) level amongst non-diabetic subjects.

Serum Hs-CRP in Periodontitis Patients With or Without Diabetes

Periodontal DiseaseDiabetes Mellitus1 more

the aim of this study was to assess serum levels of high sensitivity c reactive protein in periodontitis patients with and without type 2 diabetes in a trial to analyze its prognostic effect following non-surgical periodontal therapy.

The Impact of a Modified Probe Tip Design on Patient Perception of Discomfort on Probing and Clinical...

PeriodontitisDiagnoses Disease

Patient perception of pain on periodontal probing using a controlled-force, electronic probe was not significantly affected by the use of a modified (ball-end) probe tip design except for in the maxilla, where a standard straight probe tip appeared to be more comfortable for patients.

Alterations of GCF Levels of Sclerostin and DKK-1 in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

OsteoporosisPostmenopausal1 more

Symptoms of periodontal disease are tissue destruction and destruction of the alveolar bone which supports the tooth. Wnt way (wingless-type MMTV integration site family) plays a role in the regulation of bone homeostasis in periodontal disease-induced bone resorption. The Wnt / β-catenin signal is controlled by physiological antagonists, including dickkopf released from osteocytes-associated protein 1 (DKK-1) and sclerostin (SOST). Thus, Wnt inhibitors SOST and DKK-1 affect bone mass changes. Bisphosphonates used in osteoporous treatment are selective inhibitors of bone resorption. In the serum of postmenopausal osteoporotic women treated with bisphosphonate, short-term and decreased DKK-1 level during the treatment, and increased SOST in the late period were reported. Increased bone formation after bisphosphonate treatment in postmenopausal osteoporotic patients has been associated with increased serum SOST level. The aim of our study is to investigate the effect of bisphosphonate in patients with post-menopausal osteoporosis on the bone demolition metabolism in periodontally healthy and periodontally diseased tooth regions and gingival health with the clinical data by investigating the SOST and DDK-1 molecules that play role in bone destruction mechanism.
