Young adults who attempt to kill themselves is a common and serious mental health problem worldwide and certainly in Belgium and the Netherlands. Fatal suicide is the leading cause of death among young adults. It has devastating consequences both for the young adults themselves and for their families. It also has substantial economic costs. However, up until now, there is little research on the treatment of suicidality among young adults. The current psychological therapy approaches and drug treatments for young people at very high risk of fatal suicide attempts have only limited success. Increasing evidence indicates the importance of involving significant others in treatment and the importance of the unfulfilled need for belonging and secure attachment. The WHO recommends involving significant others in the treatment of suicidal young adults. However, in Belgium and the Netherlands, there is little knowledge on the effectiveness of family based treatments. Attachment Based Family Therapy, or ABFT, was shown to work well in several studies in the US. Also in Belgium and the Netherlands, ABFT is being used to treat suicidal young adults. However, how well it works compared to the current treatment and if it provides good value for money have not been studied in young adults. In the proposed study the investigators will test, in a real-life situation, whether ABFT works better than the current treatment and if it provides good value for money. This study is a collaboration between the Netherlands and Belgium and 6 or 7 sites will participate from each country. Sites can be hospitals, mental health centres, student health centres or private practices. Participants (138 individuals) are young adults between 18 and 25 years old who have frequent thoughts about killing themselves, and who seek mental health treatment. The investigators predict that, compared to current treatment, ABFT will reduce suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts and that this improvement will be maintained over time, and that it will be better value for money. The project will contribute to improving care for suicidal young adults with high suicide risk. Results will inform clinical guidelines and policymakers and improve the treatment of young adults with a high risk for fatal suicide, and their families.

To inform the effective management of adolescent suicide risk by evaluating promising treatments and developing the evidence-base for interventions that are well suited for widespread adoption, sustained quality, and impact.

Suicide is a major public health issue, and is the 9th leading cause of death overall. Suicidal thinking and behaviours have been linked to painful childhood experiences, stressors, and psychological trauma. Stressful experiences are also strongly linked to the development of a variety of mental health problems, including anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder. However, patients with suicidal ideas are often left out of trauma treatment, for fear that it will worsen their distress and increase their suicidal thinking. However, there is preliminary evidence that treating posttraumatic stress symptoms in patients with suicidal thoughts can lead to improvement in their symptoms and a reduction in suicidal thinking. For many individuals, overwhelming emotions and/or painful negative beliefs stemming from traumatic experiences contribute to a desire to escape though suicide or self-harm. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder that desensitizes painful memories, so that reminders in the present no longer provoke the overwhelming emotional responses. It has also been used for depression and a variety of other mental health problems. This study aims to test the safety and effectiveness of virtual/remotely delivered EMDR for adults with suicidal ideation. Patients will be randomly assigned to receive either EMDR therapy plus Treatment as usual (TAU) or TAU alone. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, distressing emotions, and suicidal thinking will be compared before and after therapy. For the EMDR group, side effects to EMDR will be tracked. The number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations will also be compared before and after therapy for each group.

The primary aim of the proposed research is to test the effect of a culturally centered treatment protocol, the Socio-cognitive behavioral therapy (SCBT), versus Treatment as Usual on suicidal thoughts and attempts, and depressive symptoms, in a clinical sample of Latinx adolescents. The study is trying to determine, if we take into account perspectives of Latin immigrant families and minority youth, whether better outcomes can be found for this high risk group.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation technique, its approved therapeutic indication is high-frequency stimulation to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) for treatment resistant.

This is a rater-blinded, randomized controlled trial. All patients will receive esketamine for treatment of Major Depression with Suicidal Ideation (MDSI). Subjects will be randomized (1:1) to receive CBT (computer-assisted) or TAU alone following esketamine.

The purpose of the study is to assess the feasibility and acceptability of CAMS-4Kids for children with suicidal ideation and/or behavior. During this open pilot trial, we will enhance treatment procedures, refine adherence measures, and develop a treatment manual. Our study sample will include 10 children, ages 5 - 11 years old, seeking outpatient services for suicidal ideation and/or behavior.

This trial is a randomized, double blind, controlled pilot study that will compare bilateral theta burst stimulation (TBS) and sham treatment for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) experiencing suicidality.

Completing evidence-based treatments for depression has been shown to be particularly problematic for Black adolescents. If Black adolescents' depression treatment needs are to be met, the engagement challenges and the factors that lessen the success of treatment in the "real world" must be addressed. The investigators will examine the effectiveness of the Making Connections Intervention (MCI) and investigate key mediators of both engagement and response to treatment for depression. The MCI is a 1-2 session, evidence-based intervention designed to improve engagement, perceived relevance, and treatment satisfaction among depressed, Black adolescents. The study also uses tailored outreach strategies for adolescents and parents by including innovative digital content such as a web page/app along with other digital products. This study will address an important public health issue: How best to connect Black adolescents with depression to treatment in clinically meaningful ways, and how best to deliver evidence-based treatment to them through school-based services.

In this double-blinded, randomized, sham-controlled trial, the investigators aim to determine the acute effectiveness of duration-doubled tDCS on suicidal ideation in patients with MDD. In addition to the their usual treatment, participants will be randomly assigned to receive either 10 weekday sessions of active (2 mA) or sham tDCS as an adjunctive treatment, with the anode over the left DLPFC and the cathode over the right DLPFC. The investigators will regularly assess suicidal ideation, depression severity and functional impact using the BSI, HAMD-17, MADRS, ODQ, YMRS, ASRM, CGI and SDS throughout the trial. The investigators will assess cognitive changes using WCST and SCWT. The investigators will also regularly assess treatment-related side effects using validated scales.
